Most Anticipated Books of 2024 – Second Quarter

It’s time to take a look at 2024 Q2, the months of April, May and June. As usual, I have picked my top five most anticipated book releases for each month (but I have many more I’m excited about!) At the end of the quarter, I’ll check in and see how many of these fifteen books I’ve read.

I’m also linking up with Top Ten Tuesday, which was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!

And at the end of this post, you can see my results for the first quarter of 2024. Here we go!

April 2024 Most Anticipated:

The Redemption of Morgan Bright by Chris Panatier. Read and reviewed! I’m happy to have a jump on my April most anticipated books. Chris Panatier always surprises me with his imagination, writing skills and the ability to tug at my heartstrings. This gothic horror story takes place in an insane asylum and is super creepy and disturbing.

Calypso by Oliver K. Langmead is a science fiction story told in verse, an unusual approach to storytelling that doesn’t always work. But Langmead is such a skilled writer, it’s always a pleasure to read anything he writes. Look for my review soon!

I’m also in the middle of Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes, another scary sci-fi story in space. This story is very hard to put down once you pick it up!

Bless Your Heart by Lindy Ryan is a Southern vampire story that sounds like it’s got tons of humor. I hope to start this very soon, and isn’t this cover adorable?

And if you need even more vampire action, check out Immortal Pleasures by V. Castro. This has some mixed reviews, but I’m still looking forward to reading it.

May 2024 Most Anticipated:

The House That Horror Built by Christina Henry. Henry’s books are sometimes a mixed bag for me, but I am looking forward to this film-centric horror story.

Evocation by S.T. Gibson. After Gibson’s disappointing An Education in Malice, I’m very much looking forward to her new fantasy series opener. This sounds quite different from her last book, so fingers crossed!

And for some cozy queer fantasy romance, I’m excited to read The Honey Witch by Sydney J. Shields. This is getting some good reviews, I can’t wait!

The Silverblood Promise by James Logan is another series starter that is getting a lot of buzz. I’m reading less epic fantasy these days, but I couldn’t resist this one.

Heavenbreaker by Sara Wolf comes from Red Tower Books, the same publisher that gave us Fourth Wing. I love the sound of this because it appears to be a combo of fantasy and science fiction, always an interesting mix.

June 2024 Most Anticipated:

June is absolutely out of control, and probably my most anticipated reading month of the year so far! Starting with Small Town Horror by Ronald Malfi, I’m so excited for a new book from one of my favorite authors.

Likewise, I adore everything Christopher Buehlman writes, and I suspect I’m going to love The Daughters’ War too.

Last year I fell in love with Ashley Poston’s The Seven Year Slip, and this year she’s bringing us A Novel Love Story, hopefully in the same vein. I’m so excited to start it!

The sequel to the awesome, surprising The Serpent & the Wings of Night is The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent, and I’m hoping the sequel is just as good as the first book.

Finally, I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, and I think it’s going to be one of “the” horror books of 2024.

First Quarter 2024 Results:

I’m very pleased at my Q1 results, and was able to cross everything off the list except A Botanical Daughter, and I just ran out of time (but hope to catch up and read it soon). If I had to choose my favorite book of the quarter, it’s got to be The Heiress. Even though I actually read it back in December, it’s still one of my favorite books of the year so far.

Are you planning on reading any of these books? Did you have a favorite book of the quarter?

  1. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader

I loved The Honey Witch! And you did amazing so far Tammy, I am impressed!

  2. Nice job! Is this your best quarter as far crossing off books as read? Of those you’ve listed I’m currently most curious about Ghost Station, The Silverblood Promise, Small Town Horror and The Daughters’ War.

  3. I’m planning to read the Ashley Poston and Christina Henry books for sure, and see a couple of others I’d consider maybes. I somehow ended up with way more ARCs for May and June than I meant to, and now I’m just a little stressed about getting through them all! (Although, worst comes to worst, I’ll just read some later…) As for most antipicated… I actually have no idea! Hope you enjoy all of these!

I’m having the same problem, way too many ARCs in the next few months. Oh well, I guess things could be worse!

  4. The Silverblood Promise is one of the titles that caught my attention recently and I will end up adding it to my TBR even though I don’t know how to create some space in that “crowd”… 😉

The Silverblood Promise is long, I should probably think about starting it soon too:-) Thanks!

  5. I decided to pick up IMMORTAL PLEASURES next instead of EVOCATION. I’m 9% in and don’t have any strong opinions yet. The only thought I have about it so far is the storytelling is very straightforward. I can’t decide if I like that or not.

  6. Wow, you killed it with your Q1 reading! Well done. 🙂 I’ve been really enjoying cozy fantasy this year, so I’ll have to check out The Honey Witch.

  7. You’ve done incredibly with your reads for the first quarter. And I’m definitely going to have to check out The Heiress if it’s your favourite of the year so far. It must be good to have beaten A Haunting In The Artic based on how enthusiastically you spoke about that.

I hope you enjoy all of these books and I’m definitely going to have to look into Heavenbreaker as I hadn’t heard of it before. Good luck with this quarter’s reading too.
