Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Three fresh horror covers reveals for the new year, take a look:
A young woman gets her dream job working for a famous designer—and discovers the dark side of the glamorous world of fashion—in this gorgeously sinister novel of supernatural suspense.
Fashion-obsessed Samara finally has the life she’s always dreamed of: a high-powered job with legendary designer Antonio Mota. A new home in sunny California, far away from those drab Jersey winters. And an intriguing love interest, Brandon, a wealthy investor in Mota’s fashion line.
But it’s not long before Samara’s dream life begins to turn into a living nightmare, as Mota’s big fashion show approaches and the pressure on Samara turns crushing. Perhaps that’s why Samara begins hearing voices in the dark in her room at night—and seeing strange things that can’t be explained away by stress and anxiety, or by the number of drinks she consumes every night.
And it may not only be Samara’s unraveling psyche, because she soon discovers hints that her new city—and the house of Mota—may have been built on a foundation of secrets and lies. Now Samara must uncover what hideous truths lurk in the shadows of this illusory world of glamor and beauty, before those shadows claim her…
Tiny Threads by Lilliam Rivera. Releases in August 2024 from Del Rey Books. First, this cover is pretty amazing. A horror story that takes place in the world of fashion, that’s got to be a first! I’m really intrigued by this premise, even though the blurb is a little on the vague side, I can’t wait to read it!
Zoje Stage delivers another knockout with a blood-chilling follow-up to international sensation Baby Teeth, taking readers back into the unsteady world of a young sociopath who’s all grown up.
Hanna is no stranger to dark as a young child, she tried to murder her own mother. But that was more than sixteen years ago. And extensive therapy—and writing letters to her younger brother—has since curbed those nasty tendencies.
Now twenty-four, Hanna is living an outwardly normal life of domestic content. Married to real estate agent Jacob, she’s also stepmother to his teenage daughter Joelle. They live in a beautiful home, and Hanna loves her career as a phlebotomist—a job perfectly suited to her occasional need to hurt people.
But when Joelle begins to change in ways that don’t suit Hanna’s purposes, her carefully planned existence threatens to come apart. With life slipping out of her control, Hanna reverts to old habits, determined to manipulate the events and people around her. And the only thing worse than a baby sociopath is a fully grown one.
With its dark humor and chillingly seductive protagonist, Dear Hanna is a stand-alone sequel sure to thrill returning and new readers alike.
Dear Hanna by Zoje Stage. Releases in August 2024 from Thomas & Mercer. This is the follow-up to Stage’s very popular Baby Teeth (I’ll be catching up with it before August). I’m almost hesitant to read the blurb because it’s probably a little spoilery, but still, this should be good!
From the bizarre and audacious imagination of horror author Andy Marino comes a harrowing tale of the insect that will herald the apocalypse…
It begins with cicadas. It will end with The Swarm.
When millions of insects appear unexpectedly, off the rhythm of their 17-year cycle, Detective Vicky Paterson is investigating a bizarre killing in her sleepy hometown. At the same time, a pair of hired guns work to free their client’s daughter from a shadowy cult.
As these events intertwine, things begin to spiral out of control. When Vicky’s young daughter, Sadie, is attacked by the insects, it’s clear that the once-harmless creatures have invaded with a malevolent purpose.
But this is only the first wave. Soon, the infestation is impossible to contain.
As the world desperately works to unravel the mysteries of the swarm, and humanity rests on the knife’s edge of extinction, Vicky and a group of strangers will fight to uncover the shocking origins of the attack—and the terrible purpose behind it.
From a remote Pacific atoll to a devastated Manhattan, this panoramic novel of insect apocalypse reaches back into the darkest recesses of the twentieth century and unleashes its horrors on our modern, interconnected world.
The Swarm by Andy Marino. Releases in November from Orbit Books. I know this is a LONG way out, but I couldn’t resist when I saw this cover reveal. I still haven’t read any of Andy Marino’s books, so hopefully this will be my first. Killer swarms of cicadas!!!
I might have to try Tiny Threads. Thanks for introducing me!
Hopefully we’ll both get to read it:-)
What intriguing and creepy offerings! Thank you for sharing, Tammy:).
This is a rather creepy bunch:-)
The fashiong world sounds like the perfect setting for a horror movie actually. I really wanna know what they mean with the house of Mota having been built on a foundation of secrets and lies. Sounds intriguing!

I think you’re right about the movie, I would totally watch it!
The words “insect apocalypse” in the synopsis for The Swarm give me the chills: I tend to be upset by the presence of insects in the house, so I’m sure this story would prove quite creepy for me – and yet I’m intrigued as well…. 🙂

Me too, why can’t the insects stay outside where they belong??
Oh no, I’m not sure my psyche can survive reading about an insect apocalypse!! Nightmares for days… Threads looks amazing, and I suppose I should finally read Baby Teeth!
Ha ha I know what you mean, insects, ugh!
As I was doing my post a few minutes ago, I just KNEW we’d both feature The Swarm. I LOVE the cover and it sounds so awesome. Of course, I actually like the cover of Dear Hanna better so I guess now I need to read Baby Teeth. Lots of good horror this week!

The Swarm sounds interesting.
It does, I’m excited to read it.
I really like the sound of Tiny Threads!
Me too, it sounds wild!

I have got to read Baby Teeth soon!!
The Swarm brings back memories of when I was very young and there were all sorts of insect-related horror movies I’d watch with my mother on tv. Creepy but fun times. Would probably seem very campy if I were to watch them now. 🙂
I’ve probably seen some of those movies too:-)
The cover of The Swarm is super creepy!
I think the one I’d be most tempted to read is Tiny Threads 😀

Me too, Tiny Threads is going to be a must read:-)
I think this time my TBR is safe from you you temptress!! But even if, for once, I am not really drawn by any of your pick, they all sounds intriguing as hell! (Or to be honest, I know that they aren’t the right fit for me, but your presentation still drawn me in!!)
Ha ha thanks Susy!
So here’s a funny thing, I feel like I have read two of these! Swarm is legit just like, well, Swarm by a different person about giant butterflies. That said, I will absolutely be reading this one too, because come on. Bugs are jerks, and it is about time we wrote them as such Tiny Threads reminds me a lot of Material Girls by Elaine Dimopoulos, just… maybe darker, more adult? Either way I probably want to read it too, so there you have it!

Ha ha I remember that other Swarm, you reviewed it right? I’m not a fan of bugs but I love horror stories about them, go figure!
Such goodies. I love the sound of Tiny Threads.
Lynn 😀
Me too, the cover is one of my favorites:-)
Haven’t read Andy Marino either, but Swarm looks so good!
Agreed! I wish it wasn’t so far away…
Well Dear Hanna seems chilling! I wonder if her husband was aware of her past!
I don’t know, but I can’t wait to read it:-)
Hmmm I don’t really read detective novels, but the fact that SWARM is about cicadas intrigues me…anything cicada-related does. If you read it, I’ll try to keep an eye out for your review.
The cover for TINY THREADS is striking; I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one. I never read BABY TEETH so maybe it’s an oops that I read the blurb for DEAR HANNA but now I am intrigued
