Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
Lots of summer book releases hit my mailbox this week, and a few fall releases too. Take a look:
Books in the mail for review:
Strangely enough, all six of these books are August releases or books I’ve already read, so if you haven’t already, you’ll be seeing reviews for them soon.
Huge thanks to Kaye Publicity and Red Tower Books for Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. Ever since loving Fourth Wing, I’ve been keeping my eye on Red Tower Books. This promises to be a lot of fun too!
My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is another fun sounding romance with paranormal elements. This comes out at the end of the month, and I’m really looking forward to it. Big thanks to Berkley for the review copy:-)
Thank you to Flatiron for this beautiful finished copy of The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei. I’ve already read and loved this book!
And I couldn’t be happier to receive a copy of Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas. This is my next read, and I’ve been hearing so many good things. Huge thanks to Berkley for the finished copy:-)
Another lovely finished copy courtesy of Tor Nightfire, Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward is another August release that is coming up soon on the pile. I hate to sound like a broken record, but this is yet another book that’s getting glowing reviews.
Finally, thanks to Tordotcom for a finished copy of Wild Spaces, which I’ve also reviewed. This one didn’t completely work for me, but I did love the author’s writing style.
Who doesn’t love book swag? I was fortunate enough to get a couple of fun book mail packages recently, so of course I have to share. Huge thanks to Datura Books for a copy of The Graveyard Shift by Maria Lewis. They also threw in a Datura tote bag, book marks and post card! This is a murder mystery/thriller revolving around a radio DJ, and I think it’s going to be fun.
And I am so happy to have a copy of Darcy Coates’ upcoming book Where He Can’t Find You. With thanks to Sourcebooks Fire, the book came tied up in red string, which relates to the story. So cute! They also included a postcard that probably has something to do with the story as well. I can’t wait to read this, but I’m reluctant to untie the string, lol.
Digital books for review:
I submitted three reviews to NetGalley this past week, so I feel OK with these three new books—I guess it’s a wash? LOL
First up, The Paleontologist by Luke Dumas comes out in December. This is a haunted museum story, I think? In any case, I’m super excited to read it.
I was thrilled to get a copy of Simone St. James’ upcoming release, Murder Road. St. James always does a great job of combining supernatural and thriller elements, I can’t wait!
And I also got book #2 in Mur Lafferty’s fun SF series The Midsolar Murders, Chaos Terminal. I had a lot of fun with the first book, Station Eternity, and I’ll be curious to see what Lafferty does in this one.
Big thanks to Atria Books, Berkley Books and Ace Books:-D
“I can’t wait to read this, but I’m reluctant to untie the string, lol.”
Haha, it makes sense! It’s almost like they don’t want you to read the book LOL.
The Graveyard Shift sounds fun…especially since I used to be a radio personality (with strictly daylight hours!)

It’s just so pretty with the string, I’ll have to take it off without cutting it:-) And The Graveyard Shift might be perfect for you!
You certainly received alot of books for one week. Jealous!
It is a lot and now I need to read extra fast, lol.
The Paleontologist sounds intriguing. And 2 titles with vampires!

It’s that time of year when the vampires start popping up, lol.
So I shouldn’t get all excited because you’ve already read most of them. But. BUT—that’s still a pretty good haul for one week, Tammy! I look forward to your review of the 2nd Midsolar Murders, which I did not request as I uh didn’t like the first
It was tough to get into it, I’ll admit, but I ended up liking the second half enough to check out the sequel.
Ooh, great haul! My Roommate is a Vampire looks like lots of silly fun.
It does, I think I’m going to need it soon, lol.
Robin is listening to Assistant to the Villain on audio. I just ran out to request the next Mur Lafferty. Thanks for sharing.

I’ll look for Robin’s review, and I hope we both enjoy the Mur Lafferty!
Ooh, I can’t wait for more from Simone St. James!
Me too, she never disappoints:-)
Just the title My Roommate is a Vampire makes me smile. I hope it is as fun as it sounds.

Me too, I’ve heard good things so fingers crossed:-)
I am curious about My Roommate is a Vampire, hope you enjoy it all the rest!

Thanks Stormi, I’m really looking forward to starting all of these, lol.
Is the Graveyard Shift a graphic novel? I might has to check that one out.

It’s not a graphic novel, but the cover sort of makes it look that way.
What a great haul. I need Graveyard Shift!
It sounds good, right? I don’t think I’ve ever read a DJ centric horror story.
Assistant to the Villain and My Roommate is a Vampire are on my TBR and I’m looking forward to when I get round to them – but The Paleontologist may have to join them!
I hope we both love them!
Another great haul!! I pre-ordered Assistant to the Villain because it looked like some quirky fun. I only realized after the fact it’s from the same publisher as Fourth Wing.
That’s one reason I wanted to read it, I’m really curious to see what the publisher does as a follow up to Fourth Wing:-)
I’m looking forward to reading, “Vampires of el Norte,” too! And, I’m glad you received a finished copy of “The Deep Sky.”
I hope we both love Vampires:-)
Assistant to the Villain sounds fun, and the new one by Simone St. James is definitely going on to my list as well.
Hope you enjoy Looking Glass Sound, I thought it was really good 😀
I’ve just started Looking Glass Sound and so far so good:-)
I can’t believe that I haven’t yet read Simone St. James – what is wrong with me!
I like the sound of the haunted museum;- plus the title really appeals.
Lynn 😀
I can’t either! I’ve only read one of her books, but I’m going to catch up.
I’m definitely planning to read Vampires of El Norte and My Roommate is a Vampire. I attended a virtual event last week where both authors talked about their books and they sounded fabulous!
I think I learned about the Paleontologist from you, and it sounds intriguing! I probably won’t be picking it up though since there are so many other books on my tbr that have priority, so I look forward to your thoughts!
How many interesting books!!! I have some interesting things about Assistant to the Villain, and I hope to read My Roommate is a Vampire, sooner or later!
I might actually look into the paleontologist. Sounds like fun for December haha.
