Over-Booked [180] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

Lots of summer book releases hit my mailbox this week, and a few fall releases too. Take a look:

Books in the mail for review:

Strangely enough, all six of these books are August releases or books I’ve already read, so if you haven’t already, you’ll be seeing reviews for them soon.

Huge thanks to Kaye Publicity and Red Tower Books for Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. Ever since loving Fourth Wing, I’ve been keeping my eye on Red Tower Books. This promises to be a lot of fun too!

My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is another fun sounding romance with paranormal elements. This comes out at the end of the month, and I’m really looking forward to it. Big thanks to Berkley for the review copy:-)

Thank you to Flatiron for this beautiful finished copy of The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei. I’ve already read and loved this book!

And I couldn’t be happier to receive a copy of Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas. This is my next read, and I’ve been hearing so many good things. Huge thanks to Berkley for the finished copy:-)

Another lovely finished copy courtesy of Tor Nightfire, Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward is another August release that is coming up soon on the pile. I hate to sound like a broken record, but this is yet another book that’s getting glowing reviews.

Finally, thanks to Tordotcom for a finished copy of Wild Spaces, which I’ve also reviewed. This one didn’t completely work for me, but I did love the author’s writing style.

Who doesn’t love book swag? I was fortunate enough to get a couple of fun book mail packages recently, so of course I have to share. Huge thanks to Datura Books for a copy of The Graveyard Shift by Maria Lewis. They also threw in a Datura tote bag, book marks and post card! This is a murder mystery/thriller revolving around a radio DJ, and I think it’s going to be fun.

And I am so happy to have a copy of Darcy Coates’ upcoming book Where He Can’t Find You. With thanks to Sourcebooks Fire, the book came tied up in red string, which relates to the story. So cute! They also included a postcard that probably has something to do with the story as well. I can’t wait to read this, but I’m reluctant to untie the string, lol.

Digital books for review:

I submitted three reviews to NetGalley this past week, so I feel OK with these three new books—I guess it’s a wash? LOL

First up, The Paleontologist by Luke Dumas comes out in December. This is a haunted museum story, I think? In any case, I’m super excited to read it.

I was thrilled to get a copy of Simone St. James’ upcoming release, Murder Road. St. James always does a great job of combining supernatural and thriller elements, I can’t wait!

And I also got book #2 in Mur Lafferty’s fun SF series The Midsolar Murders, Chaos Terminal. I had a lot of fun with the first book, Station Eternity, and I’ll be curious to see what Lafferty does in this one.

Big thanks to Atria Books, Berkley Books and Ace Books:-D

Are you planning to read any of these books?

It’s just so pretty with the string, I’ll have to take it off without cutting it:-) And The Graveyard Shift might be perfect for you!

  1. So I shouldn’t get all excited because you’ve already read most of them. But. BUT—that’s still a pretty good haul for one week, Tammy! I look forward to your review of the 2nd Midsolar Murders, which I did not request as I uh didn’t like the first

It was tough to get into it, I’ll admit, but I ended up liking the second half enough to check out the sequel.

  2. Assistant to the Villain and My Roommate is a Vampire are on my TBR and I’m looking forward to when I get round to them – but The Paleontologist may have to join them!

That’s one reason I wanted to read it, I’m really curious to see what the publisher does as a follow up to Fourth Wing:-)

  3. Assistant to the Villain sounds fun, and the new one by Simone St. James is definitely going on to my list as well.
Hope you enjoy Looking Glass Sound, I thought it was really good 😀

  4. I can’t believe that I haven’t yet read Simone St. James – what is wrong with me!
I like the sound of the haunted museum;- plus the title really appeals.
    Lynn 😀

  5. I think I learned about the Paleontologist from you, and it sounds intriguing! I probably won’t be picking it up though since there are so many other books on my tbr that have priority, so I look forward to your thoughts!
