The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
I just spotted the UK cover of The Hollow Kind by Andy Davidson, so I thought it would be a good book to feature today, take a look:
MCD (U.S.) edition, 2022. This is the cover of the edition I read, and before I read the book I was wondering what the bear had to do with the story. This cover actually fits perfectly with this weird, creepy book, and this is my favorite of the two covers.
Titan Books (UK) edition, 2023. I love this cover as well. I like the old house and the face of one of the main characters, Max. I definitely get a “folk horror” vibe from this cover.
Both are interesting covers.

They are very interesting:-)
The first one for me!
It’s so good, right?
The first cover is my favorite too out of these two!

It’s very odd but that weird bear is in the story!
Both are quite interesting!

They are! I would love to see more covers for this book, hopefully in the future.
I hadn’t seen the UK cover yet, it’s really interesting! I like that it takes such a different look from the US edition. I still like the US edition the most, but I do agree that the UK cover has a strong folk horror vibe to it that I think is pretty compelling.
They are both good covers in different ways:-)
Wow that is a creepy cover- I do like the first one the best.

The book is also very creepy:-)
Yep the first cover is my favorite but either one would have me stopping for a closer look. I’m going to check this one out.

Definitely! Both work well with the story, I think.
I’d not seen that Titan cover before. Very strange, but I like it.
It is strange, but hey the story is strange too:-)
I like the Titan cover! I think it conveys a lot more than the first one. I didn’t even know it was a bear until I read the book, I thought it was a cat at first glance.
