Over-Booked [171] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

How time flies! I just realized it’s been a month since my last book haul. ARCs are starting to trickle into the new address, and I’m very excited for all of these books.

Physical books for review:

Starting things off with a couple of highly anticipated Tor Nightfire titles: Sister, Maiden, Monster by Lucy A. Snyder is a February release, and I’m going to read it soon. I can’t stop staring at this crazy cover, and I want to know how it relates to the story. I was also thrilled to receive Maeve Fly by CJ Leede. Another crazy cover! Thank you Nightfire!

With thanks to Tor for a copy of Spring’s Arcana by Lilith Saintcrow, which is the first in an urban fantasy duology. I have never read Saintcrow before, and I’m a little worried about the mixed ratings on this book so far. I guess we’ll see!

I’ve been seeing Meru by S.B. Divya all over social media, and I’m very excited to try it out. This is the first in a new space opera series, and it sounds like fun. Thank you to Wunderkind PR and 47North for the review copy:-)

From the good folks at Orbit/Redhook, I’m really looking forward to The Fairy Bargains of Prospect Hill by Rowenna Miller. This will be my first time reading this author, and based on the cover, this is historical fiction with fairies!

I was thrilled to receive a copy of Hel’s Eight by Stark Holborn, the sequel to Ten Low, which I loved. This is already getting amazing reviews! Big thanks to Titan Books for the review copy.

Hospital by Han Song is also getting some mixed reviews, but I’m still curious to check it out. This is a dystopian by a Chinese SF author, translated from the Chinese, and I’m seeing everything from 5 stars to 1 star and in between. With thanks to Wunderkind PR and Amazon Crossing:-)

Finally, big thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for a copy of Graveyard of Lost Children by Katrina Monroe. This sounds like a very dark story about motherhood, and I can’t wait!

Digital books for review:

Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I HAVE to read all of Silvia’s books, so I’m very happy to have a copy of her upcoming book, which is set in the 90s and involves a cursed horror movie.

The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei. You can’t tell by the cover, but this is a “danger in space!” story, and I’m very excited to read this debut novel.

Maddalena and the Dark by Julia Fine. I featured this gothic fantasy on a Future Fiction not too long ago, and I’m glad I’ll get to check it out for myself.

I had completely forgotten about The Eidolon by K.D. Edwards, which I received back in December. That’s what happens when you move! In any case, I’m thrilled to read this short novel which is the first in a series called The Magnus Academy and revolves around some of the side characters of Edwards’ wonderful Tarot Sequence.

I was offered a copy of This Delicious Death by Kayla Cottingham, and I immediately accepted it because it sounds like a bunch of fun. This is a YA zombie story, and I also love the cover!

Finally, I can’t remember where I saw this book, but it was definitely on a fellow blogger’s blog. Not Alone by Sarah K. Jackson is a dystopian survival story involving a mother and her son. It sounds so good!

Huge thanks to Del Rey, Flatiron Books, Saichek Publicity, Sourcebooks Fire and Doubleday:-D

Are you planning to read any of these books?

  1. Most of these are fairly new to me so I don’t currently have my eye on any of them. But that may change based on what I hear from you. 🙂

  2. Look, if someone tries to rob you and only a few random books are missing… it was me heh. I cannot wait to see what you think of Sister, Maiden, Monster! It was one of the most messed up things I have ever read and that is saying something! I too have Not Alone for review, so maybe it was me! I hope we both enjoy it, and The Deep Sky which I am also really excited for. Curious about your thoughts on Silver Nitrate and Delicious Death, too, they both sound quite interesting! I also want to read Meru, and Maeve Fly, and now I must go look up Hospital because that sounds like my kind of thing too!

LOL I guess I should keep my doors locked?? ha ha. I’m definitely squeezing in Sister, Maiden, Monster soon, looking forward to a messed up story!

  3. I always love seeing your book hauls, even though they inevitably make me add books to my TBR. xD I’ve also got Spring Arcana to read! Looks like it’s going to be a good one. I really need to check out Sister, Maiden, Monster, too! Hope you enjoy these.

  4. I received an eARC of “Silver Nitrate, too,” and I’m looking forward to reading it.

I believe you’re the only blogger I know who received an ARC of “Sister, Maiden, Monster.” Please let us know how it is!
