I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!
Today is Freebie Day on Top Ten Tuesday, and I decided to share one of my favorite recent cover trends: Characters with flowers or plants on (or growing out of!) their faces. You’ve seen them, I’m sure, mostly on YA books. Here’s a selection of twelve recent book covers that follow this trend. Take a look!
Great topic choice! I love how they can make flowers kinda creepy on certain covers.

It’s interesting taking a trend like this and putting together a bunch of examples of it. We can really see how it’s played out and how similar and different they are.
Great choice! I noticed there were a few, but I haven’t seen all of these.
oh wow! Cover trends are really weird, I think. Marketting idea after a very successul book? Laziness of designers?
I like a lot Belladonna.
I don’t think I have ever read a book with this feature though

Haha, wow, I knew there were face/flower covers popping up a lot recently, but didn’t realize there were this many!!
I really love this topic because the covers are so pretty.
It’s such an interesting trend! I wonder who started it?

I’ve definitely seen this trend around and can’t decide if it’s cute or creepy? Perhaps both?

It’s always interesting to study cover trends. I can’t say I particularly like this one, especially when the flowers are covering the whole face. I prefer the ones where the flowers are accents. They’re definitely eye-catching, though!
Happy TTT!

Not a huge fan, I don’t mind the ones that have flowers that look like mask or just a few flowers but the ones that have the whole face cover I don’t care for much.

Such a unique topic choice 😀 I can’t stop looking at these covers but I can’t settle on whether they’re beautiful, or creepy, or perhaps sometimes a mixture of both?! I’d love to know how well some of these covers match up to the stories.

We have definitely noticed this trend in Horror Spotlight. We placed some of these on a recent poll for our March readalong. Some of them are so pretty! Another one I can think of is Horrid by Katrina Leno.

The covers of Foxglove and Such Pretty Flowers are beautiful. Most of the others are too creepy for me.
Oh wow, I love this collection of covers. I never realized how much of a trend it really is.
What a fabulous collection of covers. Yes… covers with flowers and faces didn’t quite prepare me for such an arresting and creepy set of covers! And yes – overall I think they all really work. My two favourites are Belladonna and Where Darkness Blooms as they both absolutely nail the subject matter of the title – and manage to be eye-catching and disturbing at the same time. Thank you for sharing, Tammy:)).
I’ve noticed flowers are a prominent theme for book covers for the last couple of years! Beautiful selection!
I have also noticed the face flowers trend. It freaks me out!

Yessss, I approve! I love this trend so much. There’s a YA book, I think a couple (?) years old now that I always think of when I see covers like this. I can’t remember what it was called, but I think it was quite popular and something like a horror girl version of LORD OF THE FLIES? But I might be making that bit up lol.
I definitely have noticed this trend! I was thinking about Lord of the Fly Fest matching this trend too! Fun topic choice!
