My Face is Full of Flowers – Cover Freebie for Top Ten Tuesday

I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!

Today is Freebie Day on Top Ten Tuesday, and I decided to share one of my favorite recent cover trends: Characters with flowers or plants on (or growing out of!) their faces. You’ve seen them, I’m sure, mostly on YA books. Here’s a selection of twelve recent book covers that follow this trend. Take a look!

Do you like this cover trend? Can you think of any books like this I missed?

  1. It’s interesting taking a trend like this and putting together a bunch of examples of it. We can really see how it’s played out and how similar and different they are.

  2. oh wow! Cover trends are really weird, I think. Marketting idea after a very successul book? Laziness of designers?
    I like a lot Belladonna.
I don’t think I have ever read a book with this feature though

  3. Not a huge fan, I don’t mind the ones that have flowers that look like mask or just a few flowers but the ones that have the whole face cover I don’t care for much.

  4. Such a unique topic choice 😀 I can’t stop looking at these covers but I can’t settle on whether they’re beautiful, or creepy, or perhaps sometimes a mixture of both?! I’d love to know how well some of these covers match up to the stories.

  5. We have definitely noticed this trend in Horror Spotlight. We placed some of these on a recent poll for our March readalong. Some of them are so pretty! Another one I can think of is Horrid by Katrina Leno.

  6. What a fabulous collection of covers. Yes… covers with flowers and faces didn’t quite prepare me for such an arresting and creepy set of covers! And yes – overall I think they all really work. My two favourites are Belladonna and Where Darkness Blooms as they both absolutely nail the subject matter of the title – and manage to be eye-catching and disturbing at the same time. Thank you for sharing, Tammy:)).

  7. Yessss, I approve! I love this trend so much. There’s a YA book, I think a couple (?) years old now that I always think of when I see covers like this. I can’t remember what it was called, but I think it was quite popular and something like a horror girl version of LORD OF THE FLIES? But I might be making that bit up lol.

  8. Such a unique topic choice, It’s always interesting to study cover trends. I can’t say I particularly like this one, especially when the flowers are covering the whole face.
