Discovering new authors is one of my favorite things about being a book blogger, and last year I read a bunch of “new to me” authors for the first time. Below are ten of my favorites. Note: these aren’t debut authors, but authors who already have more than one book out. I’m listing them in alphabetical order by author’s last name, take a look:
1. Melissa Albert. Read: Our Crooked Hearts. Want to read: The Hazel Wood.
2. Lily Brooks-Dalton. Read: The Light Pirate. Want to read: Good Morning, Midnight.
3. Darcy Coates. Read: Gallows Hill. Want to read: The Whispering Dead.
4. Andy Davidson. Read: The Hollow Kind. Want to read: In the Valley of the Sun.
5. Delilah S. Dawson. Read: The Violence. Want to read: Kill the Farm Boy.
6. Susan Dennard. Read: The Luminaries. Want to read: Truthwitch.
7. Alice Feeney. Read: Daisy Darker. Want to read: Rock Paper Scissors.
8. Rachel Harrison. Read: Such Sharp Teeth. Want to read: Cackle.
9. Simone St. James. Read: The Book of Cold Cases. Want to read: The Sun Down Motel.
Which authors did you discover last year?

I loved The Hazel Wood (although I do still need to read the sequel) and hope that you do too. I hope you enjoy the other books you want to read by these authors when you get to them. New to me authors from last year that I adored are Ava Reid, Shelby Mahurin & Elizabeth Lim.
I’m looking forward to finally reading The Hazel Wood:-)
The Sun Down Motel was the first Simone St. James I read and I loved it, so hope you enjoy it too if you get around to it. I definitely want to read The Book of Cold Cases.
I’d love to read Daisy Darker too.
Great list 😀

Thanks! The Sun Down Motel is a must read for me, maybe this year:-)
The Book of cold Cases was my own introduction to St.James, and I would not mind reading something more from her production, while my own huge discovery last year was T.Kingfisher, an author I intend to explore more closely this year 🙂

T. Kingfisher has some many choices available for you!
Based on your review I purchased and read Gallows Hill by Darcy Coates last year and like you I really enjoyed it. It’s a great thing reading authors for the first time. Thanks much!
I’m glad you also enjoyed Gallows Hill. Darcy Coates has a new book coming out in July called Dead of Winter, and I can’t wait to read it:-)
I have The Luminaries on my TTT too! I definitely want to read Truthwitch now. I’ve heard good things about it. Melissa Albert’s books are on my TBR list. I think I have The Hazel Wood already. Thanks for sharing your list!
Thanks for stopping by, Kasey!
The only one of these I’ve read is Such Sharp Teeth — loved it! And I thought Cackle was great too. Hope you enjoy it!
I’ll be curious to hear your reaction if you end up reading Kill the Farm Boy. That one was a DNF for me, but if may have been a question of timing. I just wasn’t in the mood at that point for the tone/style of the book, but I supposed I might consider giving it another chance at some point.
I’m pretty sure Kill the Farm Boy is a completely different style from The Violence. I’m not sure if I’ll get around to it or not.
I hadn’t heard of any of these books yet. It’s nice to be exposed to new titles through TTT!

I agree, I get such great ideas from other readers’ lists:-)
I love St. James’ books! You need to read The Sun Down Motel, if you haven’t yet!
I’m definitely planning on reading it!
The only reason these books look familiar is because i REgularly visit your blog, lol. I need to check St. James.
My list might have a few names for you too: https://wordsandpeace.com/2023/01/24/top-ten-new-authors-i-discovered-in-2022/

LOL. St. James is so good, I recommend her highly!
Alice Feeney was new to me last year also. I’ve read Simone St. James previously.
I have a lot of catching up to do with both Feeney and St. James:-)
I have discovered plenty of new authors! And I loved Simone St James’s books!
I can’t wait to read more of St. James’s books:-)
Many of these are authors and books I want to read as well at some point! 😀

There’s just so many, right? Hopefully you and I can both read some new authors this year.
I really like St. James. I’ve read most of her books and THE SUN-DOWN MOTEL is my hands-down favorite. I hope you love it when you read it!
Happy TTT!

I’ve read all of the books out so far in Susan Dennard’s Witchlands series, but I’ve not yet read The Luminaries as it’s not out yet in the UK!

I hope it comes out soon:-)
I discovered Stephen Baird. He’s a self-pubbed literary author of Southern Gothic stories in the vein of William March. Baird is SO talented!

It’s awesome to find and discover new authors that write stories that we can’t get enough of! Great list, Tammy. 🙂
I agree! So much fun to add new favorites to your list, and get excited about their next books:-)
I see a few favorites on your list, especially Alice Feeney, who was also new to me in 2022, and Simone St. James.
I’m curious to see if a second book by both authors will work as well as the first books I read:-)
I really enjoyed Alex White’s A big ship at the edge of the universe.
I’ve heard really good things about it. Glad you enjoyed it too:-)
Of your want to reads, I loved In the Valley of the Sun, Cackle, and The Sun Down Motel. I also enjoyed Rock Paper Scissors!
All of those are high on my “wish” list!
This is such an interesting list!! I wanted to read August Kitko and The Book Of Cold Cases last year but I didn’t managed it… I hope to get to them this year!
Oh I did wonder if Such Sharp Teeth might have been your first Rachel Harrison. I’m so happy you loved it, her books are all fun/creepy like that!
The Luminaries was a new author for me as well! And I really enjoyed it so can’t wait to read the next in that series or more by the author. Fun list!
