The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro made it onto my Best Books of 2022 list, and I was happy to find three different covers on Goodreads. Take a look:
Flatiron Books (U.S.) edition, 2022. I love this cover, it’s simple but effective. I love the crow in the center and the starry sky. I can’t wait for the sequel to come out!
Dutch edition, 2022. I like this one too, and the blue swirly figure in the center relates to one of the characters in the story.
German edition, 2022. This is my least favorite cover of the bunch. I mean, the cover could work for all kinds of books. I do love the colors they use, I have to admit!
I feel like I should pick the Dutch edition as my favorite since it’s my language but I still prefer the US edition more, I must admit 😀

I like both, but the US gets a slight edge:-)
I love that first one for sure!
It really matches the vibe of the story.
I think I prefer the US cover most. 🙂
It’s my favorite too.
I kind of like the middle one, it’s different…lol. 🙂

It’s a good cover!
I lean towards the first one but the second is also interesting with the dark city street sort of look.
I like both of those covers too, and both fit the story.
The middle cover is my favorite one because it matches the uniqueness of the characters with the setting of the novel. I need to finish the book!
Definitely finish it before book two comes out:-)
Amazng how different they are. Definitely the first for me

Me too:-)
The US edition is my favorite too! Even if I could have read the Dutch edition as I speak Dutch too LOL
I’m always jealous of readers who speak more than one language:-)
So interesting to see the other covers! I’ve never imagined they could look like that. Thanks for sharing, Tammy! 😀
I’m always surprised by the different covers too. Every publisher and country has such a different interpretation:-)
