2022 has been quite the year for all genres of fiction, but horror fiction in particular has been excellent. It was surprisingly easy to come up with this list, in fact there were many more books I could have added.
I’ve chosen fifteen of my favorite horror reads so far this year, and my reviews are linked if you’d like to read them. I highly recommend all of these, and I hope you find something creepy, scary & amazing to read!
Black Mouth by Ronald Malfi
Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert
Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes
The Fall by Alan Baxter
Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison
The Violence by Delilah S. Dawson
Gallows Hill by Darcy Coates
Little Eve by Catriona Ward
Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman
Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
Full Immersion by Gemma Amor
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson
Such A Pretty Smile by Kristi DeMeester
I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday over at That Artsy Reader Girl!
I’m currently reading Gallows Hill and listening to Black Mouth. I think I made a mistake doing both at once. I’m usually reading multiple books at once but in the past I’ve always made sure they were of different genres so I don’t get them confused. These two are not only both horror, but both involve someone going back to the home of their youth and rediscovering the terrible things they’d left behind. Beyond that, though, they’re very different which I’m grateful for. And thankfully, I’m thoroughly enjoying both. But next time… just one horror at a time. 🙂
I can see why you might mix those up Todd. I hope you end up enjoying both:-)
Having recently finished A Dowry of Blood I can say that it’s one of the best vampire stories I remember reading – and a very unusual one to boot…
Maddalena@spaceandsorcery recently posted…BLACK MOUTH, by Ronald Malfi
It was unusual, and not at all what I would expect from a story about Dracula:-)
Fabulous list! Of the ones I’ve read, Things Have Gotten Worse is my fave!

I loved Such Sharp Teeth, and dead Silence was awesome as well 🙂

Yes, Dead Silence was so creepy! It’s been months since I read it but I still think about it.
I’m proud that I have read at least one from this list: What Moves The Dead!

I’m proud of you too Stephanie! And it was a good one:-)
Damn Tammy I’ll never be able to read so many horror books! If I read one “horror-ish” a year it’s a lot! 😉
Ha ha sorry Sophie! I have some non-horror coming up soon:-)
These are fantastic picks, I fully agree with all of the ones I’ve read, and I have no doubt the rest are equally as good! Full Immersion and The Fall both sound really good! I especially loved The Violence and A Dowry of Blood. 🙂

I still think about The Violence, I’m dying to read more of Dawson’s work:-)
I need to read more by Catriona Ward. I enjoyed Last House a good deal.
Her books are crazy, but I can’t get enough of them:-)
Lots of interesting looking books on the list!

All are great:-)
Yikes! These all look super creepy. I’m interested in THE BOOK EATERS, so hopefully, it’s not TOO terrifying. I’m kind of a wimp…
Happy TTT!

Book Eaters is a little scary in places, but the story is so good:-) Thanks for visiting!
I really fancy the T Kingfisher book, or anything by that author as I’ve seen good reviews but never yet read any myself. I like the look of Our Crooked Hearts too. 😀

Love this post. I’ve read and loved a few of these, but there are several I still need to read!! How is it almost November already?

So far I’ve only read The Book Eaters from your list, but I really want to read Little Eve and Our Crooked Hearts.
I keep forgetting what kind of story THE BOOK EATERS is… even though I’ve read the description and have it on my TBR, the cover makes me think it’s something fluffier than horror!
