Halloween is almost here, so what better reason to feature book covers with tentacles? OK technically tentacles might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of scary cover elements, but there’s just something about them that creeps me out. Here are ten books I’ve either read recently or want to read, and I’m sure there are plenty more out there.
Can you think of other examples? Let me know:-D

This theme reminds me of an old episode from Space: 1999 in which the astronauts had to deal with an alien monster seemingly made of many tentacles: I guess there is nothing more scary than tentacles waving menacingly in one’s field of vision… 🙂
Oh cool. I don’t have any memories of that show, but I feel like I must have seen it at some point:-)
Nice collection! I really enjoyed Lagoon. And Maddalena’s mention of Space: 1999 has me wanting to do a rewatch, if I could ever find the series. Growing up I absolutely loved that show.
I must have watched that show at some point. I need to check out the Wikipedia page now:-)
Love these!! One more for you — The Merry Spinster by Mallory Ortberg.
I’m not familiar with that one, but I’m off to check out the cover:-)
I can’t resist covers with tentacles! I’m going to grab Wild Spaces and Lagoon and I’ve read some of the others.

Lagoon is very good:-)
Tidepool was the first book I thought of when I saw the title of your post!

I think Tidepool actually gave me the idea for this post.
The first (and probably only) one I thought of was Lovecraft Country, I think the series tie-in cover had tentacles on it.
The cover for Semiosis is pretty scary, and that dog on the final cover looks pretty annoyed by those tentacles. 😀

Ha ha if I were that dog, I’d be annoyed too:-)
Brilliant idea for a topic this week. I quite like tentacles (as art. Not so much in person!) so I’ve got a soft spot for tentacle covers. This isn’t the only reason I want a copy of The Mountain By The Sea buuuuut its a factor.

Ooh I completely forgot about The Mountain by the Sea!
I haven’t read any of those, but tentacles do make for interesting covers.
They do for sure!
How fun! I only know about Kraken – which I haven’t read yet!

I haven’t read it either, but I love the author’s other books, so I really should.
Great theme. The other book I thought was Deeplight by Frances Hardinge.
Lynn 😀
Ooo… there are some cracking covers here – I do love a tentacle snaking across a title font:)). Thank you for sharing these lovely examples, Tammy:)).
I used to keep track of tentacled covers, there just seems like there are a lot out there, especially with the recent trend of lovecraft inspired books. Looks like I need to add more to my list!
