Hey, it’s Labor Day here in the U.S., so what better time to do a fun book tag? I saw this tag on Bookforager’s blog and thought it would be fun. ( Credit to the originator of the tag: Booktuber Daniela of Only if for a Page.)
I love this genre, but I didn’t like this book:
A horror/ghost story that takes place in a school setting? Normally this would be exactly my kind of book, but Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo just didn’t work for me, unfortunately.
I rarely read this genre, but I loved this book:
Betty by Tiffany McDaniel has elements of horror, but it’s marketed as literary fiction. And while I used to read a ton of this genre, my tastes have changed over the years. I’m so glad I veered out of my lane for this book, though. It would be devastating to miss it!
I love this trope, but I didn’t like this book:
I (and many other readers) had high hopes for Book of Night by Holly Black, but it ended up being a disappointment for me. The trope is “heist,” which is usually a favorite of mine, but the plot was confusing and I couldn’t figure out the purpose of shadow magic.
I hate this trope, but I loved this book:
I’m definitely not a fan of the “suppression of women/arranged marriage/forced pregnancy” trope, but The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean turned it into something new and exciting.
I love this author, but I didn’t like this book:
I’m a big Seanan McGuire fan and I have been following her Wayward Children series from the beginning. But Across the Green Grass Fields bored me to tears. Nothing really happens, the stakes are too low to become invested in the characters’ fates.
I previously disliked a book by this author, but I loved this book:
I might have this category backwards, but what the heck. I adored Christina Henry’s Lost Boy, and later I read and wasn’t as thrilled with The Ghost Tree. Hey, you can’t win ’em all!
I love this cover, but I didn’t like this book:
I love everything about the cover of Docile by K.M. Szpara, but the story left me a bit on the cold side. I loved that Szpara took on some weighty themes, but the worldbuilding was on the sparse side and I couldn’t understand the characters’ motivations.
I didn’t like this cover, but I loved this book:
Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert is one of my favorite books of the year so far, but the cover doesn’t do it justice at all. I mean yes, there is a rabbit theme going on in the story, but the title and author font makes no sense at all to me, and overall the cover is just BLAH.
This is a very intriguing tag, indeed and I might steal… ahem… borrow it one of these days
Thanks for sharing!
Definitely! I’ll look forward to your answers:-)
This is an interesting tag – I may do it, too! I still haven’t read Book of Night because everyone seems so universally disappointed. I didn’t even realize it was a heist book. That makes me double sad. At some point before the year ends I’ll pick it up.
It’s pretty short, and who knows, you may love it:-)
What a fun tag! I’m totally going to do this (er, NOT in September because I’m already overposting this month, with the Pirateathon). When we get to thinking we’re bound by specific genres, authors, or tropes, this is the tag to remind us that we’re full-spectrum readers. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks Beth, I hope you do it!
Happy Labor Day, Tammy:)). And what an enjoyable tag – I loved your choices and I’m glad that you enjoyed The Book Eaters, too:)).
Thank you Sarah:-) Yes, the Book Eaters was amazing!
Fun tag! And Lost Boy, still one of my all-time faves.
I’m hoping she writes another book I’ll love as much:-)
This is such a nice tag!! And the books you mentioned are all interesting!
Thanks Susy:-)
This is a fun tag! Its funny because the cover you love I don’t like and the cover you didn’t like I like…lol. Not read either of those books though.
LOL!
Now this is a really fun tag! I know I’m full of bookish contradictions so I really wanna do it on my blog too.
I feel like such a black sheep for really having enjoyed Book of Night. I tend to like books that most other readers haven’t enjoyed and disliking books others have loved. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I know lots of readers who enjoyed Book of Night, you’re not alone!
I’ve yet to read any of these, but The Book Eaters and the Wayward Children series are on my list. I like how the tag goes back and forth, didn’t like this one, liked that one, etc.
I don’t do a lot of tags, but this was fun for some reason:-)
Oooh! This sounds like a fun tag. I’ve bookmarked this post in my folder for tags to do, so maybe I’ll get around to it later this month.
I hope you do this, Lisa, I’ll be on the lookout for it:-)
Fun tag! I loved your contradictions.:-)
Thanks Priscilla:-)
This looks fun, will have to have a think of some books and maybe have a go at it myself sometime
I hope you do!
Oh that’s a cool tag, I don’t do a lot of book tags but I like this one a lot, it’s very fun.
I don’t either, but this was pretty easy to come up with answers:-)
Oh, I like this tag! If I can squeeze it in, I’m going to do it.
I hope you do!
Oh wow, how fun is that!
It’s fun, and I don’t do tags very often:-)
Fun premise for a tag! I would probably give the same answer for “I Love This Author, But I Didn’t Like This Book”, alas.
Yeah, I think a lot of readers would agree…
Really enjoyed reading your answers to this tag.
Thanks! It was fun and quick:-)
I love this tag and your answers. I would like to take part in this one.
Lynn
I hope you do!
