The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: Daddy dearest – a book with a strong father figure.
It’s definitely harder to find a book about fathers than one about mothers, but I think I found a good one. These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant is a standout thriller with tons of emotion and heart as well. It focuses on a father and his daughter who live out in the middle of nowhere, hiding from something in the father’s past. I only found two covers, but hey that’s enough for a face-off!
U.S. Minotaur edition, 2021. This is the edition I read and it’s also my favorite cover. It gives you the sense of how isolated they are, and also conveys the ominous feeling of the story.
Estonian edition, 2022. This cover is quite different! Other than the similarity of the woods, the vibe isn’t as unsettling as the U.S. cover. Although I do like this cover a lot.
I really like both but the US one is definitely much more unsettling.
Both are beautiful, but I like the high-contrast image in the US version.

There’s no contest as far as I’m concerned – I’ve gone for Sunday afternoon walks in woods not too dissimilar to the second cover. But that first one – that small cabin tucked way gives a sense of the immensity of the forest and it looks so heartbreakingly vulnerable… Wins hands down:)).
I like the US cover as well, Tammy. This book is on my TBR, and hopefully, I’ll read it soon to discover for myself how good the story is.

Oh what a smart pick for this week! I really like both covers, though I agree the US version is a bit more unsettling and I think matches the story slightly better.
This is the second time I’ve seen this book pop up- looks great! I like the US cover more but the Estonian one is good too.

I think I remember your review of this book! My favorite cover is the US one for sure.
Very good pick for the theme, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And I’ve always loved that US Minotaur cover.
I should have totally thought of this book! Gah!
Wow, they couldn’t be further apart in terms of design. I love the first cover, it has an ominous feel.
