The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: Somewhere over the rainbow – a very colorful book cover.
I’m going way back into the archives this week with a book I read back in 1995, Pollen by Jeff Noon. Pollen is the second book in Noon’s series after Vurt, and both books are must reads for SF fans, seriously! I could have picked either book for this week’s prompt, since both have extremely colorful covers, but I’m going with Pollen because I love the covers just a bit more. Take a look:
1996 Crown hardcover | 2001 Spanish edition
1996 Pan Books edition | 2006 French edition
1995 Ringpull (UK) edition | 2013 Tor edition
2007 Czech edition | 1998 German edition
I own copies of both the Crown and the Ringpull editions, so I’m partial to those. But overall, I love the Crown cover the best.
I love these covers! I like the Spanish edition. The spikey plant (pollen magnified?) looks so menacing!

This is the first time I’ve heard of this series, and a quick check on the internet convinced me that the story sounds weird enough for my tastes 😉

I’ve never heard of this one but I do like the cover you picked and the 1996 pan cover as well.
I like your choice and also the Pan cover. What about that Scary cover with the intensely staring eyes!
Lynn 😀
I kind of like the Czech version. 🙂
I think I’ll pick the German edition. Kinda creepy. I’m not familiar with this one.
Ooh, these are fun covers! I agree with your choice, I really like the Crown one!
I haven’t read it, and this is also my favorite cover here, because of the color choices.
Have been cray busy this week and didn’t have time to participate

My favorite is the 1996 Pan Books edition but they’re all pretty nice!
