Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
Welcome to my first book haul of 2022! If you’re new to this blog, right now I share my book hauls about twice a month on Saturdays, although I reserve the right to adjust that timeframe when necessary:-) Let’s jump right to it:
Physical books for review:
Lots of 2022 releases that I’m excited to read! Starting with a lovely trio from the wonderful folks at Tordotcom: Siren Queen by Nghi Vo is her follow-up to The Chosen and the Beautiful which I really enjoyed last year. This looks fantastic: “Siren Queen offers up an enthralling exploration of an outsider achieving stardom on her own terms, in a fantastical Hollywood where the monsters are real and the magic of the silver screen illuminates every page.”
I’m also thrilled to have a copy of Goliath by Tochi Onyebuchi, which releases later this month. I will be reading this soon! “A primal biblical epic flung into the future, Goliath weaves together disparate narratives—a space-dweller looking at New Haven, Connecticut as a chance to reconnect with his spiraling lover; a group of laborers attempting to renew the promises of Earth’s crumbling cities; a journalist attempting to capture the violence of the streets; a marshal trying to solve a kidnapping—into a richly urgent mosaic about race, class, gentrification, and who is allowed to be the hero of any history.”
Redwood and Wildfire by Andrea Hairston is another historical fantasy that sounds so good. I missed Hairston’s last book, but I’m looking forward to this one. Huge thanks to Tordotcom!
Big thanks to Solaris/Rebellion for this gorgeous copy of Under Fortunate Stars by Ren Hutchings. I am ready for some good space opera this year, and I believe this will be a lot of fun!
I have already read and loved Such a Pretty Smile by Kristi DeMeester, so expect a review soon. This is an unsettling, moody psychological thriller and it was a real page turner. Highly recommended! Big thanks to St. Martin’s Press for this review copy:-)
Finally, I was so excited when I won an Instagram giveaway for Echo, an upcoming Nightfire title, courtesy of the author, Thomas Olde Heuvelt! Thank you Thomas!
Digital books for review:
I’m trying to back off on requests, but you know how that goes! But I am being very picky about what I agree to read and review this year, but all of these are no brainers. I was so excited to be approved for Crowbones by Anne Bishop, the third book (or technically the 8th book) in one of my favorite series. It’s the third book of Bishop’s World of the Others, which is a spin-off of her popular series The Others. It’s sooo good!
I’m also excited to have a copy in my hands of The Shadow Glass by Josh Winning. This book sounds crazy in all the right ways:-)
One of my favorite authors, Stephanie Burgis, contacted me and offered a copy of Good Neighbors. This is a bind-up of her four Good Neighbors novellas that were written exclusively for her Patreon supporters. It sounds like a delightful fantasy romance:-)
Finally, I had to download Just Like Mother by Anne Heltzel, since I have already featured it on the blog. This is a Tor Nightfire horror story, and they’ve been putting out some amazing books lately!
Thank you to Ace Books, Titan Books, Stephanie Burgis and Nightfire:-D
The cover-title combo to “Just Like Mother” creeps me out, in a good way, for a horror story! Goliath sounds complex and wonderful. Happy reading!

Thanks Priscilla:-)
Great selection, happy reading!
Thank you!
Nice haul! I grabbed The Shadow Glass last week and as a huge fan of 80s/90s Jim Henson movies I am really looking forward to it.
Me too, it sounds pretty unique.
Oh my! The Anne Bishop’s one and the one by Stephanie Burgis!! I may envy you a little at the moment!!
I hope you get them too, Susy:-)
Look at that “The Shadow Glass” cover!
Isn’t it cool? I want to read it just because of the cover:-)
YAY! Approved for The Shadow Glass. Under Fortunate Stars sounds like a riot!
Yes, I’m very happy:-)
These all look interesting! Although the cover for Just Like Mother is very creepy. Hope you enjoy these!
It really is. Hopefully I will be in the mood when I pick it up:-)
I’m really trying to limit books for review this year. I have none of these.
Enjoy!
Good for you, Emma! I am terrible at limiting my requests.
Just Like Mother has the creepiest cover. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!

It really does. I’m so curious!
I also got Crowbones and Good Neighbors.
I’m anxious to start both:-)
Just Like Mother and The Shadow Glass are going on my tbr. Thanks for introducing me!
I hope we both love them:-)
Enjoy your new books!
Thanks Stormi:-)
I just got The Shadow Glass too.
Here’s hoping we both enjoy it:-)
I’m trying to back off on requests, but here’s another great list of them! 😉
It’s impossible!
Under Fortunate Stars sounds like the kind of space opera I love: I will have to keep this title at the very center of my “book radar”! And I can’t wait to start with Good Neighbors: anything Ms. Burgis writes always ends up in a delightful reading experience 🙂
Stephanie Burgis is a sure thing when you need something fun and feel-good:-)
I always say I’m going to back off on requests, but apparently I have no self control, lol. Anne Bishop is one of those authors I’ve been saying I want to try for ages now. Hope all of these are great reads for you!
Anne Bishop is really good if you like urban fantasy or paranormal:-)
I can’t wait to read Good Neighbors. I may bump it up the list.
Lynn 😀
It comes out very soon, so I will definitely read it in the next couple of weeks.
Just Like Mother looks creepy from that cover! You got some great books this week. Hope you enjoy them!

I’m seeing lots of positive things about Such a Pretty Smile.

It was really good!
Very excited for Echo! Redwood and Wildfire looks interesting (although that title gets me a little, living in California, haha!). Just Like Mother sure looks creepy. Nightfire really has been putting a lot out lately!

I know what you mean about “Wildfire”!
Just finished Such A Pretty Smile – do you remember the book When We Were Animals? I think if you enjoyed that one, you will like this one too!
I’m not at all jealous of Crowbones haha. Fun you got Echo. I got a copy when the dutch edition released 2 years ago I think? He is a Dutch author and my friend and I got it signed by him 😀
