Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
This was a very sad week for my family. We lost my sweet dog Ginger on Thursday, and things just aren’t back to normal yet. Ginger was a mini dachshund who came from Wisconsin to California. My sister-in-law brought her on the plane, and she was so tiny we couldn’t believe she was real. She was our first dog as a family. Ginger’s favorite food was cheese (I mean look where she was born!) and she loved DreamBones more than anything in the world, except for us. She loved every single person she met, she was such a social animal. (And everyone loved her too). She was small but a fierce hunter, and she killed her fair share of rats and squirrels over the years, because, dachshund. We always celebrated her birthday on Thanksgiving, and this year she would have been fourteen. I miss her so much, but luckily we still have my good boy Oits. Next week I’ll have a new hubby bird photo, but today I just want to remember Ginger.
Upcoming reviews:
I’m behind with my reading this week, which isn’t too surprising. But I hope to get two reviews up: Swashbucklers and You Sexy Thing. Both are more on the lighthearted side of things and don’t seem to take themselves too seriously. I thought Swashbucklers would be a good SciFiMonth read, but it’s actually fantasy. Oh well!
Upcoming reads:
I can’t believe how fast November is going! I wanted to read way more books but as usual, the month seems to be getting away from me. What I’m trying to say is that Blindspace and Far From the Light of Heaven might be my last two SF reads of the month.
Other posts:
This week will be on the lighter side as far as posts go. Look for my regular features: Wednesday I’ll have three new SF covers to share on Future Fiction, and The Friday Face-Off is “futuristic vista.”
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky – Review 4.5/5 stars
The Friday Face-Off: “Star” on the Cover
Noor by Nnedi Okorafor – Review 4/5 stars
10 Young Adult Science Fiction Books to Read in 2022
Nightwatch on the Hinterlands by K. Eason – Review 4.5/5 stars
I’m so sorry to hear of Ginger’s passing. I can tell you loved (still love) her very much.

We did, she was pretty special. But I’m sure every dog/cat owner says that about their pets:-) Thank you Priscilla:-)
My heart goes out to you and your family, Tammy. I’m sorry to hear about Ginger. Sounds like finding those book on the lighthearted side of things is certainly a good move right about now. And cheese? That made me smile despite the circumstances. A beautiful memory to hold onto.
Yes, lighthearted books are the way to go right now:-) Luckily I have lots of memories like the cheese one, so it’s easy to smile even when I’m sad. Thank you Todd:-)
I’m so sorry Tammy! I’m not surprised that you’re behind this week, given that. I’d probably be either reading everything in sight looking for a distraction or hiding under the bed trying to shut out the world. Hugs and condolences from Montana!
Thanks Will!!
Oh no, I had another friend have a fur baby death this week. It is always so sad. I have a senior dog and I know each day we have with her is a blessing. *hugs*
I can’t wait to see your Swashbuckler review, I still need to get to it. Sometimes it’s so hard to figure out what the genre is of something by the blurb. 🙂
Have a great week and happy reading!
Stormi
Exactly. Every day for the past few years has been special. I try not to think too far ahead. Thank you Stormi:-)
Again, I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost a dog almost two years ago and it still hurts so much. She loves cheese too!

I’m sorry to hear it’s still painful, but I love that she loved cheese too:-)
I’m soo, soo sorry for you and your family’s tough loss. I’m glad you can remember your little girl with all those beautiful memories and I hope everyone will stay strong during this whole grieving process. Take care!
Thank you Lashaan:-)
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Thank you Kristi.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Heaven has gained another angel. May your memories of her comfort you.
Thank you Laurie, I think about her all the time, and I have a lot of great memories:-)
I’m so sorry to hear about Ginger, Tammy. My son has a mini dachshund and he’s the happiest dog. His tail is constantly wagging. I know how hard it is when we lose one of our animals. They become so much a part of our lives.

Thank you Jan. They are just like children:-)
Oh no, I’m soooo sorry about sweet Ginger! They are such big parts of our family and hearts, especially our little wiener dogs. I’m glad you still have Otis. When I lost my Sydney I was glad I had my Dora at the time. As my two get older I get more worried about when I might have to worry about this very thing again. Hopefully Ginger is up at the Rainbow Bridge and probably playing with my Sydney.

Thank you Lisa:-) It makes me so happy to think our dogs might be somewhere together:-)
I am so, so sorry about Ginger. We were so sad when we lost Gina at almost 18 and we will be gutted when we lose Lulu. I don’t want to think about it even

You shouldn’t think about it. Dogs live in the moment and we should too:-)
I am so sorry to hear about Ginger! A big hug!!!
Thanks Susy:-)
I am so sorry that you lost Ginger Tammy! I fear the day our dog will leave us. Hugs!
It’s not a day you want to think about, that’s for sure.
I am so sorry about Ginger! She looks like such a sweetie.
She was, she’ll be missed for sure…
Oh I’m so sorry to hear that! 🙁

I’m sorry for your loss, Tammy! Ginger had a good run, though – long life with those she loved.
Thanks Ola. She really did have a great life:-)
So sorry to hear about your dog’s passing. Sounds like she was a great friend and touched all your lives. Sending hugs to you and your family!

I’m so sorry for Ginger! I know thanks to a friend’s Golden Retriever what it means to enjoy the bottomless affection of a dog, and to lose that unabashed love and joy. The way these amazing creatures can find a special place in our hearts is nothing short of a miracle, and they stay with us even once they’re gone…

Yes, they do stay with you! Thank you Maddalena:-)
Oh Tammy, I’m so sorry to hear about Ginger. It’s always so hard to lose a furry family member. *HUGS*
Thanks Suzanne:-)
I am so sorry, Tammy, my heart aches thinking about that pain of losing our companions. It is very understandable to be behind on things, I hope you and your family are able to take the time you need for yourselves right now. The dogs I’ve had were always the biggest cheese fiends, too. So glad you still have Otis to bring you comfort right now as well. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you Jordan!
Aw, it’s hard to lose a beloved pet … keep them close, because they are probably hanging around, or waiting for you in what comes next…

I love that thought! Thank you Kirsten:-)
Ahh, Tammy, so sorry to hear about Ginger. Unfortunately I know exactly what you’re going through as my fur baby passed this year (just shy of 16 years). He left a Dude sized hole in our lives, we’re not quite over him yet but I have found that reading helps a lot.
Be very nice to yourselves.
Lynn 😀
Thank you Lynn. It’s such a hard thing as you know. I like to imagine she’s enjoying her afterlife somewhere fun:-)
I’m so sorry for your loss. We’re so incredibly lucky to get to have dogs in our lives <3
Yes we are! Dogs make life worth living, at least for me:-)
I just wanted to say how sorry I am about Ginger. Losing a animal is so very hard. I will pray that with time you will have peace and maybe even choose to love another dog that needs a family. Sending hugs
I really appreciate it, Lisa. I do still have another dog and I would never hesitate to get another one someday. There are so many dogs that need love out there:-)
I’m so sorry for your loss Tammy.
Thank you:-)
