Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
First of all, I want to wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day! That includes fur baby moms, of course;-) I’m grateful that both my kids are with me today, which rarely happens, since my daughter lives in Boston. For today’s hubby photo, I wanted to share something that relates to mother’s day, I hope you enjoy it!
On another note, I got my second vaccine on Thursday and I’m so relieved. I definitely had a harder time with this one. My arm was very sore almost immediately and that lasted a couple of days. On Friday I started to feel really achy and tired, and I ended up leaving work early and got a good night’s sleep and felt almost like myself in the morning. Hopefully that will be it for symptoms!
Upcoming reviews:
I was pretty disappointed in myself last week, since I only got one review up. Hey, it was just one of those weeks! So this week I’m trying to post three reviews, but we’ll see how that goes, ha ha. First up, The Album of Dr. Moreau by Daryl Gregory, which was really really good. I spent most of last week reading The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman, which took me longer to read than I expected. Buehlman is such a skillful writer and I wanted to revel in each paragraph of this novel, the writing is that good. This isn’t a quick read by any means, and the pacing is on the slower side, but what a delightful story! Hysterically funny and full of heart and unique world building, I’m so glad I had a chance to read it. Finally, I hope to push through and finish Immunity Index by Sue Burke and get a review up later in the week. So far I’m not really enjoying this, so we’ll see how it shakes out.
Upcoming reads:
The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He was pushed to this week, I just couldn’t get to it. After that it’s time to dive into The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne! I don’t know why I’ve been feeling so intimidated by this book, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to enjoy it. That’s probably all I’ll have time to get through this week:-) Also, I just noticed how perfect these two books are side by side, it almost looks like one book cover!

Thank you, I can’t wait to get started:-)
Happy Mother’s Day, Tammy! I’m glad to hear about The Blacktongue Thief, that’s one I’m interested in. And I agree, the covers for The Ones We’re Meant to Find and The Shadow of the Gods really do stand out together. Very bizarre how that works. 🙂
Thank you Todd! Yes, sometimes weird cover things like that happen, lol.
Happy Mother’s Day! Glad you are recovering from that second shot. Love the geese photo. Happy reading!

Thanks Priscilla:-)
Some weeks you just do what you can and it’s enough. Happy Mother’s Day! Robin is reviewing the Gwynne book and from setting up her post, my impression is that it is long? I will say a number of my books this month are also longer (400-500+ pages), and a couple are novellas. More typically , they are the 350ish pages.

I don’t think The Shadow of the Gods is that long, maybe 500 pages, but I also usually stick to under 400 pages if I can.
You’ve got some great reads to look forward to! I can’t wait to finally dive into The Blacktongue Thief myself. Happy reading! 😀

Thanks, I love baby animals no matter what they are:-)
Happy mother’s day! Those goslings are absolutely adorable! Yay for getting your 2nd vaccine though sorry about the side effects. My 2nd was much rougher then my first too. I’ve never gotten hit in the arm with a baseball but I imagine that’s what it would feel like! I hope you have a great week!
Oh yes, the arm pain was crazy! But luckily it doesn’t last long. Thanks for stopping by!
I am hoping to finish Shadow of the Gods tonight and it is so good! Hope it will be better than Immunity Index. Sorry to hear you’re not really enjoying that, and depending on your review of it, this might just be the final death knell of my interest to read it :\
I’m so bored by Immunity Index, I am really forcing myself to finish. ugh maybe it’s my mood, I’m not sure…
Glad to hear you got to spend Mother’s Day with both of your kids. That sounds wonderful. Love the photo from your hubby this week. So cute! Also a big yay for getting your second shot. Sorry to hear about the after effects but I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better now.
It’s definitely worth feeling bad for a day or two:-)
I’ve also seen Shadow of the Gods around a lot and been wondering whether it’s for me or too epic for my current mood. (and when I say current I mean the past few years)
I’ll be reading it soon so I’ll let you know how it works for me:-)
Your happy goose family picture reminds me of the goose nest by my local Kohl’s story that they had blocked off to protect it. Sorry you had more symptoms with the second shot. I think maybe I was a little more tired with it, but I can’t be sure because we’d also had our first week with teachers back the same week I got it, so it’s possible there were a lot of things that contributed to my being tired that time. Hope you have a great week!

I love that goose story:-)
Really looking forward to your review of The Blacktongue Thief! I’ve been very curious about that one. I hope you enjoy The Shadow of the Gods! Also looking forward to your upcoming YA fantasy books post–there are so many releases sometimes, it’s nice to see what people are specifically looking forward to.

I laughed so much while reading The Blacktongue Thief, so much fun:-)
I didn’t have the best time reading Semiosis by Sue Burke so I don’t think I will read Immunity Index (and I’m not really in te mood to read about pandemics atm LOL).

I actually enjoyed Semiosis, so I’m pretty sure you won’t get along with Immunity Index, lol.
Well done getting your second vaccination.
I love that photo – so lovely.
Happy reading, lots to look forward to. I’ve started Blacktongue Thief and although it’s early days I’m enjoying it so far. I loved the Gwynne and highly recommend.
