Ten Upcoming Adult Fantasy Books to Get Excited About #wyrdandwonder

It’s time for my first Wyrd & Wonder list of the month! You guys know I love a good “looking forward to” list, and today I’m focusing on adult fantasy books that have not yet been released. Because I don’t like repeating myself, I’m including books on this list that I haven’t talked about yet on the blog. So you won’t see any Future Fiction picks here. Instead, I wanted to focus on some new books I’ve found that sound really promising! Titles are linked to Goodreads, so you can add them (I know you want to!), and I’ve listed them in order of release date. Here we go!

Blackheart Knights by Laure Eve. Jo Fletcher Books, May 13th. Camelot with motorcycles? Um yes that is something I’m definitely interested in! This sounds a little crazy, but I’m very curious.

The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid. Harper Voyager, June 8th. This story is based on Hungarian and Jewish mythology and is being compared to The Bear and the Nightingale. I love the cover and I’m intrigued!

City of Iron and Dust by J.P. Oakes. Titan Books, July 6th. A story about fae and goblins? It’s been a long time since I’ve read a good fae story, and I’m extremely excited about this one.

Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian. Ace Books, July 6th. An Arthurian mythology reimagining, this story is from the writer who brought us Ash Princess, which I really enjoyed. Can’t wait!

Tidepool by Nicole Willson. The Parliament House Press, August 3rd. This story is described as “Lovecraftian dark fantasy” and I am HERE for it. I love the cover and the tentacled creatures!

The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina by Zoraida Córdova. Atria, September 7th. Ahh this lovely cover! A family saga involving magic? I think this sounds wonderful.

The Peculiarities by David Liss. Tachyon Publications, September 7th. This story sounds a little wacky, but in a good way! I love everything about the description, especially the part where the main character has leaves sprouting out of his skin.

Among Thieves by M.J. Kuhn. Gallery/Saga Press, September 7th. This wasn’t on my radar until I received a surprise copy in the mail, and now I’m really looking forward to checking out this fantasy debut, “perfect for fans of Six of Crows.”

The Orphan Witch by Paige Crutcher. St. Martin’s Griffin, October 5th. I’m getting strong Alice Hoffman vibes just looking at this cover, and the story sounds like it could be really good.

Swashbucklers by Dan Hanks. Angry Robot, November 9th. A pirate ghost, a talking fox and 80s video games all seem to play a part in this story, and I love the way the cover incorporates a video game console!

Do you see anything good on this list? Let me know if you are excited about any upcoming fantasies:-D

Thanks Jess:-) Yep that cover of Blackheart Knights really makes me want to read it!

  1. Stephanie @ Bookfever

Yasssss The Wolf and the Woodsman! I’m so damn excited for it!

    • Tammy

There are so many good books coming out, I really didn’t want to stop at ten:-)

  2. Yay for Tidepool! Parliament House has sent me pitches in the past, I’m really hoping they get in touch with that one! I also always think of video game related books as “sci-fi” but I guess Swashbucklers really is more of a fantasy/paranormal with all that stuff!

I’m surprised at how many fantasy/sci-fi crossovers there seem to be these days:-)

  3. Some good looking books here. For whatever reason the cover for Blackheart Knights brougth back memories of an old obscure comic book I enjoyed called Warlock 5. The artist was Denis Beauvais, who’s also done some fantastic fantasy paintings, a number of which were covers for Dragon magazine. And I like the sound of The Wolf and the Woodsman, which reminds me I have a copy of The Bear and the Nightingale on my shelf waiting for me to pick it up.

  4. Just read about Wolf and the Woodsman for the first time a few days ago and added it to my TBR immediately! Also, I really need to get around to reading something by Córdova – I’ve been meaning to for so long…

  5. What a beautiful set of books! I am really looking forward to The Wolf and the Woodsman – June can’t come soon enough. Thanks for a great Wyrd & Wonder post, see you around.

  6. These all look amazing – but knights? on bikes? oh hell yes.
    Lynn 😀
PS – that seriously could have been the title!

  7. I feel like I’ve been in a cave for the past couple of months due to grad school, but I didn’t realize how many books I’d missed! How have I not heard of Blackheart Knights? Camelot with motorcycles is gonna be a big yes for me. I’m also super excited for Tidepool! So much yes. Absolutely yes.

Swashbucklers is also going to be a big yes for me. Holy cow, that sounds amazing! I mean, you had me t pirate ghost, but yes, absolutely, I would also like a talking fox and ’80s video game references. xD
