The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: A book about war.
The theme this week is pretty open ended. March is named after the Roman God of War, so we can feature a Roman style cover, a cover with gods, or simply a cover about war. I’ve decided to go the “war” route and I chose World War Z by Max Brooks. There are a ton of covers, take a look:
U.S. Crown Publishing edition 2006 | Turkish edition 2021 | Japanese edition 2010
Bulgarian edition 2012 | Portuguese edition 2010 | UK edition 2019
French edition 2009 | Romanian edition 2012 | Russian edition 2008
Finnish edition 2011 | Turkish edition 2010 | Thai edition 2012
I actually like a lot of these! I guess my top two favorites are the U.S. and the Turkish 2021 editions:
I like the US cover best, too. Great pick!
Thanks Kristi:-)
I’ll go with the Romanian edition, I love that stormy desolated look. But I think the eyes are pretty intense in the Turkish edition. 🙂
I really like the Romanian cover too, you can’t go wrong with stormy and zombies:-)
Great choice! I own an older version of the UK 2019 one but I’m drawn to the Turkish one, it nails it.
I agree, love the Turkish cover:-)
I really like the Turkish cover. The Romanian really reminds me of The Walking Dead.
Yes, the Walking Dead, that’s what I thought too:-)
The Turkish one is my favourite. It’s terrifying. I don’t know if it fits the book, but I love the aesthetic.
That one is frightening!
I like your choices, and I would also add the Portuguese edition: that hand reaching out with a grabbing motion is very impressive! 🙂
Maddalena@spaceandsorcery recently posted…FIREWALKERS, by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Yes, I like that one too!
I’d never seen the Turkish edition before, I really like it!
Oh, I never thought to look at the other covers for this one! So varied. I think I’m still partial to the original US cover though. 🙂
I really like the US cover. This is a book I never read but I did watch the movie – I wonder how the two compare?
