Buffy’s Corner 1/31/21 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

This was one of those weeks where not much happened. I guess life in the time of Covid is mostly uneventful, right? We finally got some rain here in So Cal so that was nice (plus free car wash!). I did discover a new YouTube channel I’ve started watching obsessively called FlavCity. The host is a chef who focuses on clean eating, paleo, gluten free, and other types of healthy eating, and for some reason I can’t stop watching his videos. Plus he has a little girl named Rose who helps him cook and she’s adorable! I’ll put one down below if you’re interested. Let’s just say I’ve been reading every ingredient label on the food I buy and I’m learning a lot about the nasty ingredients that are used in processed food. His YouTube channel has lots of ads, which I don’t love, but you can follow on Instagram for shorter and no ad videos.

Upcoming reviews:

Look for two reviews this week: Tuesday will be Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell. I really enjoyed this sci-fi/romance/political intrigue story! And on Thursday, I’ll finally post my review of The Forever Sea by Joshua Phillip Johnson, which I’ll admit was a slog to get through. I think I spent over two weeks reading it off and on, and thought about DNFing it at one point. But the story actually took off in the second half and surprise surprise, I ended up enjoying it!

Upcoming reads:

These are the next three books I’ll be picking up. I’ll probably read The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey next, simply because I’m tired of waiting, lol. After that, A History of What Comes Next by Sylvain Neuvel, which comes out this week. And I’m also very excited to dive into The Future is Yours by Dan Frey.

The usual memes…

Monday is February 1st! Which means I’ll take a look at my February blogging plans on What’s On My Plate. I have three awesome books for Future Fiction on Wednesday, and with all the cover reveals I saw last week, it was tough to narrow it down to three choices! The Friday Face-Off is “romance,” and Saturday I’ll be sharing my latest book haul in Over-Booked. Whew, full week!

Reading something because you’re tired of waiting is something I can totally get behind! In fact, this week alone I read a book from February and another from March because I was too excited to wait for them. Also, I’ve heard some things about Neuvel’s new book, enough to make me reconsider my desire to read it. I look forward to your review!

Hey are you giving me permission to dive into my March books? Because if you are, I have two in particular I’d like to start sooner rather than later…

I can’t even make up my own mind about The Forever Sea, lol. My review will be a surprise to me I think;-)

I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on The Forever Sea, Kathy! It’s definitely going to be hard to write my review, I think.

  2. I used to pay more attention to what I eat, I should probably get back to that. When you find something interesting it’s easy to lose track of time watching.

  3. Pretty much everything in your upcoming reviews/reads is on my list for Feb, thought he jury is still out on The Forever Sea, I’ve been seeing some mixed reviews…can’t wait to see your thoughts to help me decide 🙂

I swear I keep changing my mind on The Forever Sea! I hope to start working on my review tomorrow. Who knows how it will turn out, lol.

It was such a strange reading experience, but I am glad I read it. And I want to continue the series, who knew?;-)

Sarah Gailey writes so many different genres and age groups, I just love each book, it’s completely different from every other one:-)

  4. I keep meaning to eat healthier but I’m about as far from that as one can get haha. I need to work on it. But temptation!
I’m really interested in The Echo Wife so I’ll be curious to see what you think of that one. And of course I’m looking forward to your review of Winter’s Orbit! Have a great week, Tammy!

I’m so glad you’re a Flav City fan! In fact, I just made one of his dishes for dinner, cauliflower grits and shrimp. It was amazing!
