Future Fiction #102 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Two cover reveals by “heavy hitters” and one more exciting cover reveal, it’s a pretty good week!

A family returns to their hometown—and to the dark past that haunts them still—in this masterpiece of literary horror by the New York Times bestselling author of Wanderers

Long ago, Nathan lived in a house in the country with his abusive father—and has never told his family what happened there.

Long ago, Maddie was a little girl making dolls in her bedroom when she saw something she shouldn’t have—and is trying to remember that lost trauma by making haunting sculptures.

Long ago, something sinister, something hungry, walked in the tunnels and the mountains and the coal mines of their hometown in rural Pennsylvania.

Now, Nate and Maddie Graves are married, and they have moved back to their hometown with their son, Oliver.

And now what happened long ago is happening again . . . and it is happening to Oliver. He meets a strange boy who becomes his best friend, a boy with secrets of his own and a taste for dark magic.

This dark magic puts them at the heart of a battle of good versus evil and a fight for the soul of the family—and perhaps for all of the world. But the Graves family has a secret weapon in this battle: their love for one another.

The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig. Releases in July 2021 from Del Rey Books. Super excited to see this cover reveal, and it’s pretty trippy! I’m hoping Chuck’s new book is just as good as Wanderers, which I loved. This sounds dark and emotional!

In her quickly gentrifying rural lake town Jade sees recent events only her encyclopedic knowledge of horror films could have prepared her for in this latest novel from the Jordan Peele of horror literature, Stephen Graham Jones.

Jade feels like she’s trapped in a slasher film as tourists go missing and the tension between her community and the celebrity newcomers to the Indian Lake shore heads towards a tipping point, when she feels the killer will rise. Jade watches as the small town she knows and loves begins to head towards catastrophe as yachts compete with canoes and the celebrity rich change the landscape of what was designated park lands to develop what they call Terra Nova.

This new novel from the acclaimed author of The Only Good Indians and “literary master” (Tananarive Due, author of The Good House) Stephen Graham Jones, is a must-read, exploring the changing landscape of the West through his particular voice of sharp humor and prophetic violence that will have you cheering for the American heroine we need.

My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones. Releases in August 2021 from Gallery/Saga Press. OK, aside from the completely underwhelming cover, I am unbelievably excited to read this book! (And yes, I checked with the publisher and this is indeed the final cover.) After reading and loving three books by Jones this year, he’s made it onto my auto read list, so I’ll be first in line to read this. You can also check out a super creepy excerpt on Crimereads.com here.

High Fidelity meets The Magicians in this ‘90s punk rock fantasy by triple threat guitarist, author, and Hugo Award–winning editor Jason Heller.

Peter, a punk rock guitar player with OCD tendencies—It’s why everyone calls him rePeter—works at The Wax Rack, a record store in Denver. Pete has a talent he couldn’t understand until he attends a by-invitation-only concert at a secret warehouse location.

Pete can do things if he performs a ritual that dives into his OCD, you can call it magic if you want, and this band, Order of Organs, are all magicians, and they need Pete as much as he needs them, if they’re going to save Denver from what’s coming.

Filled with the anti-mainstream and DIY ethos of the movement, Repeater is the heartbreaking punk rock fantasy we need.

Repeater by Jason Heller. Releases in August 2021 from Gallery/Saga Press. This sounds very promising, and I love the cover. I’m excited to read a punk rock story, and the fact that the author is a musician makes it even more appealing. Did I mention I love the cover? This is my favorite cover of today’s bunch!

  1. I don’t know how you manage to find them all but these look great. That being said, browsing through Goodreads yesterday I spotted quite a few books on the horizon.
    Lots to look forward to.

  2. These are all new to me, but I have to say that cover for Wendig’s book caught my attention! My Heart is a Chainsaw sounds so good! I hope you enjoy all three of these when you read them, Tammy! Have a good week.

  3. Really like the look of Repeater.
The Book of Accidents has a great cover because it perfectly communicates how much that book isn’t for me
