I looked at my pile of recently purchased books and realized they needed their own book haul post, so here we are! Of course, now I’m on a book buying ban, but it was fun while it lasted:-D
The Ladies of Horror Fiction chose Bunny by Mona Awad as their buddy read book this month on Goodreads, so I’ll definitely be reading this by the end of the month. Why do I have two copies, you ask? Umm, I love bright colors and I couldn’t resist buying the UK paperback from The Book Depository, as well as the U.S. paperback (pink). COVID life has made me a little crazy when it comes to impulse purchases, lol.
And then there’s Instagram, which has prompted me to buy all sorts of things I normally wouldn’t buy. Anyone else have this problem? And of course, if you linger too long over an add or god forbid click on it, Instagram will NEVER leave you alone again. I follow Parnassus Books, the bookstore in Nashville that Ann Patchett co-owns, and every Tuesday Ann appears in a short video called “Laydown Tuesday,” where she and her staff highlight that week’s new releases. One such video prompted me to purchase Midnight Sun and Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy (which I’d never heard of but Ann SOLD it!).
On a whim I decided to buy Fangs by Sarah Andersen, after seeing it on a blog (sorry I don’t remember which one). I had no idea what this was, but Andersen is an artist, and Fangs is a collection of comic panels she’s done that follow the adorable relationship between a vampire named Elsie and a werewolf named Jimmy. OMG you guys! Everyone needs to read this, it’s the cutest, fluffiest and most heartwarming (but also disturbing) collection I’ve ever read! To give you an example, here’s one of the panels:
I’ve been really curious about Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare but I never requested a review copy, for some reason. But after watching Cesare talk about the book on YouTube, I couldn’t resist, and I immediately ordered a copy for myself.
And I FINALLY bought a copy of Mongrels, a Stephen Graham Jones book that I thought I had a copy of, but it turns out I don’t. I’m saving this for an October read next month, and I can hardly wait!
Finally, I attempted to test fate and blindly purchase a hardcover copy of Harrow the Ninth, hoping it would have black sprayed edges to match my Gideon the Ninth, but alas, it doesn’t. I haven’t read this yet but hope to before the year is over.
These are my latest books from Goldsboro Books. Most of these are part of their GSFF club, which sends a limited signed edition of a SFF book every month. They really are gorgeous! The First Sister, A Declaration of the Rights of Magicians, and The Story of Silence are all from the last few months. I’ve never heard of The Story of Silence, but it’s really pretty (see decorated/painted edges below). And then a miracle, after being told that my copy of The City We Became shipped in March, right after the COVID shutdown, I finally received it in the mail a couple of weeks ago. So it took over 5 months! I had contacted Goldsboro and asked for a refund, and then it showed up and I had to contact them again, lol. But I’m happy to have it. Here’s a shot of the colorful edges:
I haven’t read any of these but I’m really looking forward to The City We Became and Harrow the Ninth!

Wow, nice haul! I’m anxiously waiting for a bunch of review ARCs but this apparently wasn’t the week.
I haven’t received many ARCs lately either. Maybe that’s why I’ve been buying so much, lol, just so I can have book mail:-)
Fangs looks ADORABLE. Clown in a Cornfield really does sound pretty great, I’m going to have to get myself a copy!
Fangs is wonderful! I’m glad I bought the hardcover. It has black sprayed edges which you can’t see in the photo.
There are some awesome books! I had to buy the Midnight Sun. And I’ve heard it’s horrible, and I’ve heard it’s just what was expected and still fun for Twi-hards like myself to read and go back to that world. I just haven’t had time to read it. I’ve had to actually schedule it into my blog calendar, I think in October? I can’t wait to hear what you think of Clown in a Cornfield, there was a time that would have been something I had to have right away. I’m still interested in it! And you’re not the only one having issues with impulse buys during COVID. Unfortunately my credit cards are telling me I have to stop. lol

I bought Midnight Sun for nostalgic reasons, definitely. I will read it at some point, and I don’t really care what other reviewers think. I plan on reading it anyway!

Migrations is also on my TBR. When I first saw the cover I thought it was non-fiction. Maybe that’s why they put “A Novel” below the title. 🙂 I do like that painted spine with the stars, very cool!

Maybe on mine or someone else’s Instagram! It’s the version with an animated cover when you use google lens – not sure if the Goldsboro one featured that too

Cool bunch of books! I liked Clown in a Cornfield but some things kept me from loving it. I am curious about some of these as I have seen a few around booktube. 🙂

What a haul! My review of Clown in a Cornfield goes up tonight, I think you will enjoy it if you like teen slasher flicks…it’s exactly like one but in book form 😀 And dang, I was wondering if Harrow would have sprayed edges!
I guess only certain bookstores have the black sprayed edges. Last year Tor sent me the gorgeous finished hardcover of Gideon, but no such luck this year.
I’ve added Migrations to my list though for some reason it’s called The Last Migration here.
Have you read Sarah Andersen’s Sarah’s Scribbles, it’s brilliant and funny!

Ah, that’s where I saw it! I couldn’t remember. It’s worth buying a copy because of the black edges, so pretty!
