Over-Booked [125] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews.

I’ve received a fair number of physical review copies in the last two weeks, so even though I was going to put this post off until next Saturday, I decided, why not? I’ve also purchased quite a few books as well, but I think I’ll feature those in my next book haul post. Take a look!

Physical review copies:

Super excited for all of these! First, big thanks to Holly for a lovely copy of The Easton Falls Massacre by Holly Rae Garcia & Ryan Prentice Garcia. This is a fairly short horror novella about bigfoot, and I’m anxious to get started. Holly and Ryan are a wife/husband writing duo, so this should be fun!

Angry Robot sent two lovely finished copies: The Phlebotomist by Chris Panatier and Red Noise by John P. Murphy. It’s been a while since I’ve read anything by Angry Robot so I’m very much looking forward to these. Thank you Angry Robot!

The Year’s Best Science Fiction Vol. 1: The Saga Anthology of Science Fiction 2020 edited by Jonanthan Strahan was a surprise arrival from Gallery/Saga Press, and it’s a huge anthology with lots of contributors. Not sure I’ll get to this but I’m glad to have a copy. Thank you Saga!

I’m very excited to have this lovely copy of Master of Poisons by Andrea Hairston, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. This is a September release so I hope to start this soon. Big thanks to Tor.com!

I squealed pretty loudly when I opened up The Children of Red Peak by Craig DiLouie. I’m a huge DiLouie fan and I look forward to all his new books:-D. Huge thanks to Redhook!

Finally, Tor Books has been so generous lately. I’m very excited to have this finished copy of The Last Uncharted Sky by Curtis Craddock! This is the series finale and I can’t wait to start it. I also received a GIGANTIC ARC of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini. This may be the biggest ARC I’ve ever seen, it’s like a brick but oddly very light?? Not sure how but I’m looking forward to this. I will probably start this soon since it’s an 800+ page book and I’d like to get a review up before the mid-September release date. Thank you Tor!

Digital review copies:

Just two new digital copies this time. I was finally approved for In the Garden of Spite by Camilla Bruce, thank you Berkley! I’m so curious to see what Camilla Bruce does after the amazing You Let Me In earlier this year.

And I’m taking a chance on a YA horror book, The Afterlife of the Party by Marlene Perez. This sounds like such a fun series opener, and I can’t wait to read it. Although there are some mixed reviews on Goodreads, but we’ll see…Thank you Entangled Teen!

And that’s my book haul this week! Are you planning on reading any of these? Let me know:-D

  1. I didn’t realize To Sleep in a Sea of Stars was so long, you can see it in that spine. Wow! Glad to see you got a copy of The Children of Red Peak with that beautiful cover.

Oh cool! I’m so excited, even though it’s a January release and that seems so far away right now:-)

  2. The latest DiLouie book is an enthralling, poignant story as the previous ones I read, and I’m sure it will not fail to leave its mark on you… As for To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, I started it this morning and it looks promising – although those 800 pages will require some commitment indeed! 🙂
    Happy reading!

I can’t wait! And I’m so curious to start To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, now that I know you’re finding it intriguing:-)

  3. I was really excited to hear from Angry Robot too! But I only chose Red Noise, even though The Phlebotomist also caught my interest, but I just have too much on my plate so I’ll look forward to your review! Also so excited to dive into To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, but now I’m doubly glad I’ve decided to do the audio, as 800 print pages would take me months to read with the new work schedule I’m on.

Yeah, I’m a little worried about the Paolini, but I think I’ll start now and just read it over the next couple of weeks. I remember way back getting Angry Robot ARCs but that ended when Caroline left, I think. It’s nice that they’re sending them out again.

  4. I’m really curious about that short fiction anthology as it has a great line up of authors included and I’ve been hearing some buzz about it from my friends. Hope you are able to enjoy some of these!

Omg- that ARC of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is ginormous. I’m running the other way just looking at it. I hope it’s worth it though. I’ll look forward to your review!

Ha ha, I actually have a Kindle version of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, and I suspect that’s what I’ll actually read:-)

  6. I need to get my hands on Easton Falls Massacre as well. I also got The Afterlife of the Party but will be featuring it next week. I know how much you liked Camilla Bruce’s other book so I’m super excited about this one. Hope you have a wonderful week!

  7. What a wonderful haul! Oh, man, I didn’t realize To Sleep in a Sea of Stars was so big! I’m curious about it, too, but I’ll probably end up having to give it a pass for now because I don’t have the time for something that big. Hope you enjoy these!
