Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews.
These past few weeks I’ve seen a big change in regards to physical review copies from publishers, and I have quite a few new ARCs/finished copies to share today. I’ve noticed it’s only certain publishers that are starting to send out physical copies, but hey, I’m not going to complain. That thrill of seeing a book-shaped package on my doorstep is one I don’t take for granted anymore!
Physical review copies:
Kicking things off with a beautiful finished copy of Savage Legion by Matt Wallace. I’m hoping to read this next month!
Burnt Tongues Anthology edited by Chuck Palahniuk is a bit of a departure for me, but I was intrigued when a publicist from Turner contacted me. I don’t recognize ANY of the authors in this anthology except for Palahniuk, so this should be interesting!
I was contacted by author Pete Mesling and agreed to read and review his horror anthology Jagged Edges & Moving Parts. Pete has an impressive and extensive resume in the horror field, including editing jobs for none other than Clive Barker! I was happy to take this on, and I look forward to reading it.
Saga Press was kind enough to send me a finished copy of The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones, which you probably know by now is one of my favorite books of 2020.
I’ve already read and reviewed The Midnight Lullaby by Cheryl Low, which was a delightfully creepy ghost story!
I was thrilled to receive an ARC of Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse, one of my most anticipated books coming out this Fall! It’s just as pretty as I imagined:-D
And another big surprise, I didn’t even realize there were physical ARCs available for The Trials of Koli by M.R. Carey, but Orbit proved me wrong with this awesome surprise!
Finally, I was so happy to receive this surprise finished copy of The Angel of the Crows by Katherine Addison. I’m behind with some books from June but I hope to catch up soon.
HUGE thanks to Orbit Books, Gallery/Saga Press, Pete Mesling, Turner Publishing, Grinning Skull Press and Tor Books:-D
Digital review copies:
On the digital haul, I’ve been more restrained than normal, luckily. Still there are a lot of awesome books this week. Starting with The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart, which has been getting awesome reviews already.
I’m excited to be approved for The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk, which I featured recently on a Future Fiction post.
I was offered a widget for Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft. I’ve been loving all the Gothic mysteries I’ve read lately, and I’m curious to see how YA Gothic compares to adult.
I’m not sure why, but I’ve been bombarded lately with review requests from horror authors, most of them self-published, which I don’t usually agree to read. But I said “yes” to The Occultists by Polly Schattel, which sounds so good! It’s an Edwardian supernatural mystery and I can’t wait to read it.
I’m very excited to read Adrienne Young’s new book, Fable, which is the start of a new duology.
And The Book of Lamps and Banners by Elizabeth Hand was an impulse download, I’m not going to lie, because of the cover! I did notice this is book #4 in a series, but I’m taking a risk and jumping into it anyway.
Purchased:
I joined the Goldsboro GSFF book club at the beginning of the year, and then COVID hit and shipping between countries became very problematic. But I am slowly getting my books from Goldsboro (in the UK), and I just received the May book (that tells you how slow things are!). I’m super excited to have this copy of Phoenix Extravagant by Yoon Ha Lee, which is not only beautiful with blue edges, but I’ve heard the story is fantastic too!
Such a great book haul, Tammy! As always I’m looking forward to your reviews of them.

Thanks Stephanie:-)
Wow so many amazing books! I am very much looking forward to reading your reviews! 😀
Thanks, I’m looking forward to all of them:-)
Wow! There are so many amazing books in there!! I would wait for your reviews!!
I can’t wait to read them all:-)
The new book by Rebecca Roanhorse is one of my most anticipated titles: the premise sounds more than intriguing!
And I’ve had the privilege of reading the e-ARC for The Trials of Koli: the only thing I can say, without spoilers, is that it ends with a very MASSIVE cliffhanger that has me literally salivating for the next book… 🙂

Oh no!! Cliffhangers….Luckily the third book isn’t too far behind, I can’t remember the exact release date, but I know it’s only months after book 2, I believe. Can’t wait!
I just finished The Book of Koli yesterday and loved it. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Oh good! Glad to hear it. It ended with a great lead in to the next book and you sort of already know where he’s going with the sequel, so it should be fun:-)
I plan to read Black Sun. Roanhorse’s YA series has been very popular in my library, so I wanted to give her a try.

I love her YA series too! I’m curious to see how she does with adult fantasy:-)
Down Gomes The Night seems really tantalizing. Looking forward to your review of it.

I love the Gothic theme, so I’m hoping it will be right up my alley:-)
Great to see the physical copies are starting to arrive again. I’m looking forward to continuing the journey with Koli, Monono and Ursula. And I’m curious to try The Only Good Indians, Black Sun and Savage Legion.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on The Only Good Indians:-)
Nice haul, and paper books too! Damn, I miss physical ARCs. 🙂
Me too, I feel pretty lucky that I had some physical ARCs and finished copies show up. I guess some publishers are slowly getting back in the game:-)
Adrienne Young is an author I really want to try, I’ve had Sky in the Deep for a while now. Yay for physical ARCs!

Sky in the Deep was surprisingly good!
Lots of great books there, I need to start reading the first Koli book before my next one arrives. Happy reading!

I hope you enjoy the first Koli book, it’s a lot of fun!
Lots of cool looking reads!
Thanks Stormi!
So many great reads waiting to happen. I also got The Midnight Bargain. I love to get the packages but I giveaway the physical copies because I stick to mostly a digital library now. I do have signed copies of some favorite authors.
Have a lovely week! Stay safe and be kind.
I wish I could stick to digital, but I love physical books too much:-)
Wow, such an awesome book haul! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Black Sun. That’s one I’m really excited about.
I’ve heard nothing but good things so far, so fingers crossed:-)
omg, you got Down Comes The Night! that has my favorite tropes in it and I’m slowly dying at how long I have to wait for its release. hope you love it!
Me too, it sure sounds good:-)
Oooh, lots of gorgeous new books! I’m looking forward to reading Black Sun and The Angel of the Crows. Their covers look super nice, too. The Bone Shard Fable looks really good, and I’ve got a copy of Fable, too! Looking forward to that one. Love the sprayed edges of Phoenix Extravagant, too! And, of course, the giant dragon on the cover.
I’m such a sucker for books with sprayed edges, GIVE THEM ALL TO ME!
Love that copy of the Yoon Ha Lee book–my friend sent us all pictures when hers arrived and it’s gorgeous.
It really is pretty. I hope I can fit it in at some point because the story sounds so good!
Haha – impulse download of Lamps and Banners – I’m not surprised given the cover. Hope it works out well storming in at no.4
Lynn 😀
