Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
My heart is just sick over all the horrible things that have happened (and are still happening) this week: police brutality, violent looting and rioting, and of course the ongoing coronavirus concerns that we all have. I hope all my U.S. friends are staying home and safe, and if you’re out protesting PLEASE do so with caution. You just can’t trust anyone right now, it seems. I’ve watching so much shocking video, I don’t know what to believe.
And then there’s the SpaceX launch yesterday, which was actually pretty cool and wonderful. So if your head is spinning right now, because life is just too much, I’m right there with you:-/ So here’s a photo of a crow my husband took to make you feel better:
Last week was super busy on the blog, and I’m pretty tired. I really don’t like posting more than one post a day, so when I have to double up it makes me anxious, I’m not sure why. So this week should be slower with fewer posts!
Upcoming Reviews:
As of right now, I only expect to post one review this week, although I may get something up on Saturday, but I’m not sure what that will be. Look for Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven, Tuesday if I can pull it off! I’m really enjoying this so far. It’s such a cool magical world, about a group of traveling free traders who have a draga in their midst, a man who can turn into a dragon…
The usual memes…
Look for my usuals this week: Future Fiction and The Friday Face-Off (flight). And because tomorrow is the first of June, I’ll be posting What’s On My Plate, my version of my June TBR! Hint: there are WAY too many books coming out in June than I have time to read.
I’m also running an international giveaway for Wyrd & Wonder, so check it out if you’d like to win any of the fantasy books I talked about this month:-D The giveaway is only running for a week, so don’t delay!
Upcoming reads:
Yep, this looks a lot like last week’s upcoming reads. I didn’t read as much as I wanted to last week, so let’s see what I can get to this week…I would like to knock out Spectre Deep 6, which is a graphic novel and therefore might be a quick read.
Listening:
So the world is a very sad place because I finished Season 4 of Riverdale🙁 And who knows when Season 5 will be on due to production being halted due to COVID. But in the meantime, I started following Cole Sprouse (Jughead!) on Instagram which led me to discovering that he’s producing a horror podcast called Borrasca. I’m not really into podcasts, but I made an exception, and I’m so glad I did! New episodes will be released each Monday, and you can catch the first episode, Tell Me About Whitney, here on the QCODE website. It’s really good, and the production quality is fantastic. It the story of a group of teens who stumble upon a tree house in the woods where weird stuff happens. Sprouse plays the adult Sam Walker, whose sister Whitney disappeared when they were kids. The second episode will be out tomorrow, I can’t wait!
In case you missed…

Over-Booked – A Book Haul Post
It’s a crazy world when people start looting and rioting in towns that the violent act didn’t even happen in and that all has nothing to do with protesting. I am all for peaceful protesting but burning down peoples businesses when they are already struggling to make a living is shameful. 🙁 The world has gone crazy.
I am so going to check out that podcast!!! I looked it up and it’s set in Missouri where I am from! Got to check it out now, I don’t read many books, etc set in good ole Missouri…lol.
Stay safe and happy reading!
Stormi
I guess we should have expected the riots after what happened in 1992 to Rodney King (which I still remember), but it’s still shocking, and these riots are so widespread! I want to get back to a normal world, whatever that is!
Let me know what you think of the podcast. It’s the first one I’ve tried and that first episode was only about 40 minutes long. Not sure if that’s normal or not.
Honestly, what is 2020 right now… everything is so awful and crazy. But anyways… I’m obsessed with podcasts so I might check that one out. Although it will probably be hard for me to keep up with yet another one lol

I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed podcasts until I tried this one, so I may look for more, although they are a time commitment:-)
I’ll be reading WE RIDE THE STORM later this month too! Starting the month off with The Angel of the Crows I think…

I’m so curious about The Angel of the Crows, I hope it’s good!
It can be tough to stay positive sometimes, but we’ve got to keep trying. And keep up with these crow photos for as long as your husband is willing to create them. They always bring a smile. I like your description of Dragon Unleashed, and it has a beautiful cover. It’s funny, I’ve seen the cover before but 0nly this time noticed the dragon’s eye!
I told my husband that he needed to keep shooting photos of the crows, even though he feels like he’s done. When I told him I was putting them on my blog, he was pretty excited:-)
Hella sounds fantastic with the “bigness” of the world. I’m looking forward to your review when you get around to it. Happy reading!

Thanks Priscilla! I might even start it next:-)
I love seeing what you have planned for the week. I am utterly sick with the state of the world tofay. Everything seems so sad. I hate seeing people burn businesses and violence but don’t mind the peaceful protests.
It was so hard to keep quiet about Jughead. Glad you finished the season. Did the Betty/Archie thing make you mad like me? I really need to look into that podcast.
I was so worried about Jughead but I’m glad no one told me about it! And yeah, the Betty/Archie thing just came out of nowhere. That’s one of the things I love about Riverdale, is that Betty and Jughead seemed like the real deal. Like no matter who else on the show was breaking up, they would stay together no matter what.
Yes I’m having a lot of trouble with all the cruel and violent things I am seeing. Why do people have to be that way? Why do some people thinking putting someone else down makes you more?
Stay safe and be well.
Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
I just don’t know. It’s mind boggling that we still live in a world like this. Hope you are well, Anne!
Thank you for the crow photo. Hang in and be well.
Thanks Marian, you too:-)
I’m shocked too and my heart just feels so heavy right now. I didn’t even write a post this week because I just couldn’t stop watching the news coverage long enough to focus on it.
It’s very hard to focus, for sure. I barely got any reading done over the weekend, I just kept going back to my phone and scrolling through Facebook for news:-(
Just finished Dragon Unleashed and it was very good! The romance probably wasn’t as swoon worthy as the first book but the story was awesome 🙂
I loved the story too!
That podcast sounds interesting. I started listening to The Magnus Archives and enjoyed that although I haven’t listened to it in a while. Might have to check this one out too 🙂

I’m not familiar with The Magnus Archives but I’m going to look into it:-)
I’m so excited to read Dragon Unleashed! I honestly can’t believe I haven’t yet because I feel like I’ve been screaming internally every time I remember I have an eARC of it, so like, what’s the hold up?! Lol. Hopefully this week though! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. And omg, Borrasca! I adore CK Walker and loved the story of that so I def gotta check out the podcast, thank you for posting about it!

It was really good, Destiny! I hope you read it soon.
It’s true that the Covid crisis caused us compulsive readers to lose some focus, but right now, looking at the news, I’m aware more than ever how books represent the refuge and the infusion of sanity we so desperately need. Right now I’m glad for any dragon or alien species I meet in my journeys, to help balance the dystopian reality we see every day….

I agree, any excuse to bury my head in a book and escape the harsh reality is one I’ll take:-)
My coworker was out protesting this weekend and even though we’ve had violent looting here a few years ago (five actually) he said things were pretty good out there this weekend in Baltimore. The police were pretty chill here with the protesters for the most part.
Anyway, the world is very weird right now.
I missed the launch! But I did watch the docking and the welcome ceremony yesterday and that was pretty cool.
I missed the docking and the welcome ceremony, but I’m so glad at least one thing in the world is going well right now:-)
It is indeed such a terrifying time in America. While covid was all over the news all the time, now life has become even more fragile with this tragedy that revived discussions on police brutality and racism. Hope it gets better sooner rather than later.

It almost makes you wonder “what’s next?” right? Stay safe, Lashaan:-)
It’s a crazy world – 2020 is going to be memorable for sure.
I hope you get to chill out a bit this week after all your crazy blogging. I don’t like posting twice in a day either tbh but I always find the beginning or end of a month particularly busy for some reason.
