Last week I posted Twelve Upcoming YA Fantasy Books to Get Excited About, and this week I’m bringing you a list of adult books. I’ve talked about a lot of exciting fantasy coming out later this year and even in 2021, so today I wanted to make a list of books I haven’t really talked about yet. These are ten books on my radar (in no particular order):
Phoenix Extravagant by Yoon Ha Lee. October 2020 from Solaris. Lee jumps into the fantasy ring with this stand-alone story about a dragon automaton. I haven’t read Yoon Ha Lee’s science fiction yet, but I’m very eager to try this book.
The Raven Lady by Sharon Lynn Fisher. October 2020 from Blackstone Publishing. I was lucky enough to participate in the cover reveal for Sharon’s sequel to The Absinthe Earl, but other than that I haven’t really talked about this book yet. This series is fantasy romance and I’m very excited to start reading.
Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman. October 2020 from Simon & Schuster. Oh happy day, a new Alice Hoffman! This is billed as a prequel to both Practical Magic and The Rules of Magic, and it takes place in the 1600s and explains the origins of the Owens women’s magic.
The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart. September 2020 from Orbit. I’ve already read a couple of rave reviews for this book, so it’s firmly on my “must read” list this fall.
The Tower of Fools by Andrzej Sapkowski. October 2020 from Orbit. This book was previously released in various other editions, and I believe this is the first time it will be released in the U.S. I have not read any of the Witcher books, or seen the TV series, but I am curious to dip my toes in one of his books.
Ink & Sigil by Kevin Hearne. August 2020 from Del Rey Books. A new series by Kevin Hearne! This is actually a spin-off of his popular Iron Druid Chronicles, and I’ll admit I’ve only read the first book in that series. Not sure if I’ll struggle with this—I hope not, because I have an eARC! Still, it sounds like fun.
Brother Red by Adrian Selby. December 2020 from Orbit. I have not read Selby’s earlier books, but I’d like to start somewhere and this sounds pretty good.
Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee. 2021 from Orbit. OK I’m cheating here. I have not even started this series, and this is the thrid and final book! BUT I fully intend to catch up before this is released next year (looks like a pub date hasn’t been set yet). I may even try to squeeze in Jade City this month for Wyrd & Wonder:-D
The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso. June 2020 from Orbit. This book is out in only a couple of weeks, and as I don’t have a review copy, it’s doubtful that I’ll read it. Also, this is another spin-off series based on Caruso’s popular Swords and Fire series, which I haven’t read. But I know a lot of fans of Swords and Fire so I’ll be eager to read your reviews of this book!
White Trash Warlock by David R. Slayton. October 2020 from Blackstone Publishing. This sounds like fun, and based on the cover I’d say there’s probably a lot of humor to this story.
I can hardly wait to get my hand on The Obsidian Tower and I hardly have any idea of its core subject: for me the author’s name is more than enough… 😉

I’m sure it’s going to be good, since I’ve heard nothing but raves for her other books:-)
Brother Red, Obsidian Tower, and Tower of Fools are musts for me! And Jade Legacy too, once I catch up with book two. The others are all on my wait-and-see list 🙂 Damn Orbit always gets me with ALL their books though!

I just realized this is a very Orbit heavy post;-) They really do have a great looking Fall lineup:-)
Jade Legacy~! I can’t wait for that book.

After I read the first too books, I’m going to be even more excited for Jade Legacy:-)
A dragon automaton? Hmmm… But before that I’d like to try Brother Red and The Tower of Fools. Haven’t read any of the Witcher books yet, but I’m also curious to try those.
I would love to try the Witcher books, I’ve heard they are better than the show…
These are pretty much all unfamiliar to me but they look so freaking awesome and a lot of them have amaaaazing covers!

I agree, there are a lot of great covers on this list:-)
Ink & Sigil is the same for me. Honestly, I even DNFed his first book. Phoenix Extravagant is definitely on my list but the publication date keeps getting delayed so I’m not sure when I’ll get to it. Otherwise they’re mostly books I have on the maaaybe shelf.
Oh and you forgot ashes of the sun. This’s why all my lists have random numbers; I can’t ever make up my mind on what to include/exclude lol
I actually featured Ashes of the Sun on a Future Fiction post, which is why I didn’t include it here:-)
I am definitely incredibly excited for the Hoffman – and Bone Shard Daughter. Some fantastic books on the horizon.
Lynn 😀

There are always going to be way too many good books to read, lol.
You know, I just saw Phoenix Extravagant for the first time today and I thought the cover was absolutely brilliant. Nothing catches my attention quicker than a dragon front and center on the cover. xD
I’m really looking forward to The Obsidian Tower and Ink & Sigil! They both seem fabulous, and I was super lucky to get eARCs of both, so I’m excited! This is a great list of books, and I hope you enjoy them all when you get to read them. :3

I LOVE the cover of Phoenix Extravagant too! I may have to buy a copy just for the cover:-)
This is a great grouping, Tammy! I’m most excited about the new Hoffman!
Me too, I can hardly wait:-)
Another interesting list of books I haven’t heard of! 🙂 Some real interesting sounding ones!
I have to admit some of these are a little obscure:-)
Great list! Magic Lessons is the one I’d most want to read, but I suppose I need to get to The Rules of Magic first. 🙂
I think you can read Magic Lessons first since it’s a prequel:-)
I just got an ARC of the Bone Shard Daughter, *squeal!!!* I’m so excited for Jade Legacy, I’m just disappointed it isn’t being released in 2020!

Oh my gosh! I didn’t know Orbit was sending books out! Jealous!! I’m getting a UPS on Friday from Hachette, I hope that’s what it is:-)
Ooh I haven’t read Practical Magic yet, but I love the sound of Magic Lessons! I really need to make a start on the Jade City books, too, and I’ve heard really good things about Phoenix Extravagant. Great list!

I have got to catch up with Jade City and Jade War before the third book, ugh I need more hours in the day!
I really need to get around to the Jade City series!
Me too! And I just know it’s going to be amazing:-)
I knew this post would be dangerous. However, the Alice Hoffman book was already on my wishlist. I LOVED Rules of Magic, even more than Practical Magic, and I hope I love this one as much. I also really need White Trash Warlock. It looks too good to pass up!
I adored Rules of Magic too! I think because of the time period it was set in.
I have an ARC of Phoenix Extravagant. 🙂
Didn’t realize Obsidian Tower was a spin-off series. Kind of glad I resisted the temptation there.

Oh cool! I honestly didn’t have Phoenix Extravagant on my radar, but now I’m very interested.
I want to read them all!
I can’t express how excited I am for Jade Legacy amd Ink & Sigil!
I somehow forgot there’s a new Alice Hoffman coming out! Also I’m super excited for The Obsidian Tower! I have an eARC but haven’t been able to crack into it yet because of anxiety stuff which I’m hoping clears up soon so I can get to enjoying books I’m excited for again. 🙂
I am soooo excited at The Obsidian Tower AND got an arc copy, thanks to seeing here, Tammy:)). We have just pre-ordered Ink & Sigil, too:)). Yippee!
I’m eager to read Phoenix Extravagant, too. I need to catch up on my Alice Hoffman!
Aaaaahhh I need Jade Legacy so bad! The Green Bone Saga series is achingly good.
