My new feature has a new name! I realized after I posted this last week that I wasn’t the only blogger using the title “Coming Up This Week,” so I’ve done a quick re-branding. I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
Hope everyone is doing well! The days are sort of blending together, aren’t they? My daughter has been in Boston finishing up her semester online, but the semester is over next week and she’ll be coming home for a few weeks. I’m excited to see her, but nervous about introducing a new person into our carefully controlled household. We’ll see how that goes…
Otherwise, I’ve been feeling sort of blah about reading. I think having extra time to blog and read is starting to backfire on me. I actually get more done when I’m busy and have to keep to a schedule, so I’m looking forward to getting back to a real routine someday, how about you guys? Anyway, here’s what the week ahead looks like:
Upcoming Reviews:
My review of The Unsuitable will be up tomorrow, so check back! This book was so odd, but in a good way. Readers who don’t enjoy slow pacing probably won’t like this much, but I loved the creepy, claustrophobic way the story unfolded.
I’m currently reading The Girl and the Stars by Mark Lawrence and it’s pretty good so far. I’m hoping to finish it in time to post a review later in the week.
The usual memes…
I’m still trying to put together my Future Fiction post. Not too many cover reveals these days, but I’m sure by Wednesday I’ll have everything together. The Friday Face-Off is all about dogs on covers this week, which I’m pretty excited about! And I’ll finally have another Over-Booked on Saturday. Not much physical book mail these days but I do have some digital galleys to share.
Upcoming Reads:
I’m not sure about everything I’ll be reading this week, but I do know my next book is Fractured Tide by Leslie Lutz. After that, I may jump into one of my highly anticipated May releases of 2020, Unreconciled by W. Michael Gear. I’m also anxious to read Race the Sands by Sarah Best Durst, which I’ve been hearing good things about. We’ll see what I’m in the mood for, I guess.
Looking Ahead to May:
It’s hard to believe Friday is May 1st! Which means I will post my usual first-day-of-the-month roundup, What’s On My Plate.
I’m also participating in Wyrd & Wonder, a month-long celebration of all things fantasy! Come back Tuesday for my kick-off post, where I’ll attempt to figure out my plans for the event. I’ll also be linking up the hosts so you can join in if you want. Should be a lot of fun!
Watching:
I’m in Season 3 now and very sad because I’m coming to the end. I believe there is a partial Season 4 available to watch, but shooting has been suspended just like everything else. Let’s see: Archie was arrested and sent to Juvie, falsely accused of murder, but Veronica and her friends broke him out of prison. Now he’s on the run and Jughead went with him! Hiram Lodge controls freaking EVERYTHING, and Alice sent Betty to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, right into the lair of the Gargoyle King. Oh, and Jingle Jangle is Pixie Sticks and Fizzle Rocks are Pop Rocks! LOL
I am sooo looking forward to Wyrd and Wonder! And I am curious about the covers with a dog in it!
It sounds like Wyrd & Wonder will have lots of participants this year:-)
It’s so true that having more time to read – or blog, or write reviews – does not always equate with more productivity! On the contrary it seems to slow things down, and I totally agree with your take about having schedules and timelines to keep us on our toes. I hope that at least the Wyrd & Wonder event will help us focus more: see you there! 🙂

I do love blogging events, so I think Wyrd & Wonder is going to help both of us a lot:-)
Looking forward to reading your reviews next week!

Thanks Stephanie:-)
I loved The Unsuitable! I’m looking forward to your review.

It was really good!
The cover for The Unsuitable is definitely striking, but I have to admit, pacing is a make or break for me. But on the other had, a book that is a good “odd” is definitely worth my time! LOL! And what all of that means, is I am looking froward to your review!
I often struggle with slow pacing too, but some of the best stories turn out to have “slow” pacing, you just have to have a little more patience, I guess.
Race the Sands sounds like it’s going to be amazing. I also really need to read more Mark Lawrence. Happy Sunday, Tammy.
I may pick up Race the Sands next!
I totally agree with the easier to get more done when busy comment. I also try to keep our little environment separate all the time. We had to go out for a doc appt and it felt bad. I did make masks for us also.
I’m also reading The Girl and the Stars; I’m behind. I really enjoy his work.
Stay safe and be well!

I need to get my teeth cleaned but I also don’t want to go to any doctor/dentist office if I don’t have to!
I’m very much looking forward to your reviews of The Unsuitable and The Girl and the Stars. I love both covers, as different as they are. And I’m really curious about the story in The Unsuitable. I’ve no problem with slow pacing if I enjoy the story that unfolds. From my own perspective I’m not feeling very creative at the moment, more in the mood to read, so I’m still slowly reading the stories in Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man and I’m rereading The Lord of the Rings (The Two Towers) in audio format. Both have a nostalgic aspect for me.
I think rereading is a great way to spend time these days. If I wasn’t buried under review books, I’d probably do some of that myself.
I abandoned my TBR and picked up Soulkeeper this weekend. It’s a big book, but it’s supposed to be about hope in a time of darkness, and that seemed like a good kind of energy to inject into my life right now lol.

That does sound good! I’m stalled with the new Mark Lawrence book. For some reason I’m not feeling it. Ugh.
First of all, “Buffy’s Corner” sounds like a terrifying place where vampires go to get staked. Secondly, I think your household will be fine. Just house your daughter in a tent on the doorstep and keep your interactions through one layer of glass at all times. Or lock her inside, I guess. I’ve heard good things about Race the Sands but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I’m still suffering a bit of reading burnout this month, so everything’s been pushed back 🙁
LOL! OK I do love your description of “Buffy’s Corner.” Maybe I need a tagline?
Having more time is backfiring on me a bit as well. I read more but then keep reaching for the next book instead of stopping to do my blogging. That Mark Lawrence book looks really good. He’s an author my sister has recommended to me but I haven’t tried yet. I’ll be curious to read your review for this one.
I think reaching for the next book is a perfectly good way to spend time!
I’m looking forward to Wyrd & Wonder too! I also need to figure out my plans other than reading all fantasy.
I definitely want to do some kind of list, but I haven’t decided what yet.
I have solved the ‘meh’ problem by loading myself up with faaar too much to do! So I’m trying hard to step back and slow down a bit so I don’t make myself ill again… You have some cracking books there, so I hope you get your reading mojo back, Tammy:). And that the coming week isn’t too bland… Stay safe!
What I really need is a REALLY good book to pull me out of my sort of slump.
My copy of The Girl and the Stars should be coming in tomorrow (fingers crossed)! So I’m hoping to get to that very soon!
I can’t wait to see what you think of Race the Sands.
Happy reading 🙂
Everyone loves Race the Sands, so now I have to read it:-)
Isn’t Riverdale great haha? I left off in season three too and one of my lockdown goals was to catch up but I haven’t yet. In fact maybe this week I’ll try and get myself kickstarted on the rest of the season… 🙂

I’m halfway through season 3 and pretty sad it’s almost over. Not sure if I’ll be ready to start a new show, lol.
Ooh, it’s almost time for me to put together my May reading list! Looks like I’m going to have to bump a few from April to next month including Girl and the Stars 😛 But holy crap, I’m so curious to see what you’ll make of Race the Sands. I LOVED it! My first five star read in a while 😀
I’ve already put my May list together but I just realized I have a bunch of recent eARCs that I haven’t put on my monthly lists. So I may have to recheck my list… Definitely going to read Race the Sands now!
Not heard of Wyrd and Wonder so I need to go check out the site and can’t wait to see what you do for it! Riverdale is so I don’t know but I can’t help but watch it…lol. It always has me rolling my eyes at how bad it is but at the same time you just can’t keep from watching to see what trouble happens next. 🙂
Have a safe week and happy reading!
Stormi
Ha ha I know, Riverdale is sort of getting more and more ridiculous, but I honestly don’t care. And yes, full of plot holes! lol
I love the Buffy’s Corner name! (Of course, I love anything that references Buffy… we all need more Buffy in our lives right now!). Good luck with your daughter coming home — isn’t it crazy that we need to think about things like that? I hope you have a great week!
Thanks Lisa! Yes, everything about this virus is making life crazy right now!
I love Riverdale and it looks like a while before we’ll get another season. Fractured Tides looks wicked and I’ve not tried the author yet. I’ve been finding it hard to stick with focusing to read but just started the Murderbot Diaries and that’s sure caught my interest.

I’m glad I’m not the only Riverdale fan, lol.
I like your rebranding of this post. 😉 It suits you more. I totally hear you about feeling blah about reading. I’ve been suffering a lot of that lately, unfortunately, and I do think my reading is taking a hit. Oooh, some doggies on covers this Friday? That’ll be something to look forward to. Who can resist a little cuteness to end the week? I’ll be interested to see what you think of Race the Sands! I’ve been on the fence about whether I want to read it or not, so you may just be the deciding factor for me. No pressure. 😉

Now I have to read Race the Sands because at least three people are waiting for my reaction, lol:-)
Ooh, this is great. I feel like I’m just getting my head back together so I’d like to join in with this – could I use your banner or should I make something up?

You’re welcome to use my banner, but it’s not really “my” meme, it’s really The Sunday Post but I put my own name on it. So you should totally come up with your own name!
Finding a new routine has been the biggest struggle for me. I’m reading The Girl and the Stars right now, too, and I’m sucked into the environment so far.
The world building is very cool, also very claustrophobic!
Looking forward to your thoughts on Race the Sands! Also, I love the name of this new feature! <3
Thanks Lisa:-)
Fractured Tide was on my Wednesday post today! I love your title! I want to maybe start doing a weekly post again, but want to come up with my own name. I love my alliterations, or my L titles. So I’m thinking about Lisa’s Latest, but it doesn’t quite have the ring to it I want. I started Riverdale during this crazy time myself, although I’m only in season 2 right now. And I got hooked on Animal Crossing, so haven’t been watching as much tv as I was. 🙂
