I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is sort of a super-sized Future Fiction! Ha ha. This week’s prompt is new books on your bookshelf, but I’ve decided to go with new additions to my TBR on Goodreads. These are some of the most recent additions, although I hate repeating myself, so you won’t see any Future Fiction picks on this list. Also, I never talk about books unless they already have a cover, so I’ll leave those off even if I just added them. Here we go!
The Ravens by Cass Morgan and Danielle Paige. Danielle Paige is the author of Dorothy Must Die, And Cass Morgan wrote The 100, so this could be interesting! College sorority and witch hijinks! Also, this is the first 2021 release I’ve shared! Crazy.
Corporate Gunslinger by Doug Engstrom. This is a June release from Harper Voyager, and I’m definitely going to try to score a review copy because it sounds like my kind of book:-D
Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas. Not my usual genre, but here’s another Gothic mystery that takes place in a university setting. I’m seeing lots of books like this lately, I guess it’s a trend? Trying to follow in the footsteps of The Secret History, perhaps?
Stormblood by Jeremy Szal. The cover is what initially attracted me to this book, but the story sounds really good as well. As far as I can tell, the only edition I see on Goodreads is the UK edition, so I’m not sure if this is slated to be released in the U.S. yet. Still, I like to keep tabs on books like this, which is why it’s on my list.
The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson. I’m not completely sold on this yet, but I do love the cover! I can’t tell from the description whether or not there are any speculative elements in this story, but I’m keeping my eye out for some early reviews.
Sin Eater by Megan Campisi. This is another book I wouldn’t normally add to my TBR, but I just love the cover, and the comparison of The Handmaid’s Tale and Alice in Wonderland has my interest piqued.
Unconquerable Sun by Kate Elliot. I can’t believe I’ve still never read anything by this author! This sounds like fun. Gender swapping, intergalactic space opera!
Ashlords by Scott Reintgen. I believe author K.D. Edwards recommended this book, which is why I immediately added it to my list. If it weren’t a January release, I would have seriously considered requesting a review copy. But it came too late to my attention, so at this point I’m not sure if I’ll have time to read it. But I love this cover!
The Princess Will Save You by Sarah Henning. The story sounds like it’s been done a thousand times before, but I love the art on the cover, and I’m always up for a plucky princess!
The Devil You Know by Mike Carey. For some reason I was perusing M.R. Carey’s backlist books on Goodreads, and realized there are a bunch of them I haven’t even heard of, let alone read! Writing under the name Mike Carey is this one, the first in a series of five books. This was written way back in 2006 but I’m still wanting to read it.
Great list! I really want to give Unconquerable Sun a try – I also haven’t read anything by Kate Elliott yet – and The Ravens and The Year of the Witching are going straight on my TBR.

I have such a long list of authors I want to try to get to, but Kate Elliot is up there:-)
Nice TBR! You are right about the cover of The Year of the Witching; it’s fabulous. Happy reading!

Thanks Priscilla!
The Handmaid’s Tale meets Alice in Wonderland? …I’m not sure how that would look like but what a premise.
And I haven’t read anything by Kate Elliot yet either, but Unconquerable Sun is on my TBR as well – it sounds amazing and there’s nothing I don’t love about the idea of political intrigue in space.
Great list!

I love anything in space, lol:-)
Well Stormblood is getting added to my TBR too. Hopefully it gets a release date in the US! I’ll be bummed if it doesn’t.
Sin Eater also doesn’t sound like my usual type of book- but I saw it somewhere and wanted to keep tabs on it also.
I’d love to read some reviews of Sin Eater, the cover is making me want to read it!
The Ravens does sound interesting! The 100 books weren’t that good but the show is great sooo… 😀 Ooooh and Catherine Hous sounds like totally up my alley! Give me all the gothic mysteries 😀
Stephanie @ Bookfever recently posted…Review: Credence by Penelope Douglas
Me too, I love Gothic mysteries and I hope Catherine House is good:-)
You’ve intrigued me with several of these, Tammy, and Sin Eater was the only one previously on my radar. Fab adds!
Thanks Jennifer:-)
So many of these are on my TBR, too. I can’t wait to read Ashlords and The Year of the Witching, in particular! I hadn’t heard of The Ravens yet, but that one’s for sure going on my TBR. Sounds fantastic. I’m also interested in The Princess Will Save You, just because I’m a fan of inverting tropes.
I just heard about The Ravens too. I’m intrigued!
Hmmm…seems my wishlist didn’t grown by TOO many – probably because a lot are already on it. I have requested my library get a copy of Ashlords and I already have an arc of Catherine House. Looks like 2020 will be a stellar year for reading! Oh and Cass totally approves of The Ravens 🙂

Yes, The Ravens is the perfect Cass book:-)
I’m really excited for Ashlords. The cover for The Year of the Witching is just to die for. Great choices!
Thanks Mir:-)
The Princess Will Save You was on a few other lists this week, too! The title alone makes me want to read it.
My TTT .
It is a great title!
Holy crap, Corporate Gunslinger sounds good!
I know! I requested it on NetGalley, fingers crossed:-)
Ooh, they all look great! I’m not familiar with any of these, although there are a couple of authors I’ve been meaning to check out. Enjoy!
It’s amazing how many new to me authors I keep finding, lol.
After reading the synopsis for Stormblood I can understand you interest for it – apart from that amazing cover, that is…
A book to keep on one’s radar indeed! 🙂

Definitely! Hopefully for us US readers, we’ll get a release as well.
I loved Carey’s The Devil You Know; it was the first book I reviewed this year. And Catherine House is one I definitely want to read, too. 🙂

Oh, good to know! I’m definitely buying it as soon as I can:-)
The Year of the Witching and Sin Eater immediately appeal to me. This week is going to be very hard on our tbrs
Lynn 😀
It is, I’ve already added a bunch of books today!
Woah Stormblood does look promising! Definitely gonna take a peek at that one. And I’ve never read Kate Elliott either.

I hope Stormblood comes out in the US!
I can see why the cover of Stormblood attracted you. It immediately caught my attention, as well. Let’s hope the story lives up to it. 🙂
Agreed! The cover is REALLY good:-)
I think the story ain’t half bad, personally, but I could be biased.
Ha ha, I’ve heard the story IS good:-)
All of these are new to me and I’m very intrigued by both The Raven and Corporate Gunslinger.
Those are probably the two I’m most excited for:-)
Devil You Know is a heckuva read — great kickoff to the series.
Good to know! You’re the second person who’s read and loved that book:-)
I enjoyed The Devil You Know. Ashlords and Unconquerable Sun look good.

Oh cool! Glad you enjoyed The Devil You Know, I think you’re the third person to mention that.
Hmm, K.D. Edwards recommended Ashlords? I got the audiobook for review, I might have to bump that up now. I really disliked the last book I read by Reintgen which was the first of the Nyxia series so I didn’t continue, but everywhere I look Ashlords seems to be getting praise and from the description I think I’ll like it more than Nyxia.
I’ll be curious to see what you think. I probably won’t read it simply because I have other pressing books to read first.
I’ve really enjoyed all the M. R. Carey books I’ve read so far so might have to check out the backlist book you mentioned. I like the sound of Catherine House as well, it’s one I haven’t heard of before 😀

Several commenters have read Mike Carey’s book and loved it, so I’m sold:-)
Yayyy for ‘Unconquerable Sun’! It sounds really cool and I liked a previous book by the author!
Good to know!
These look really great – like most of the stuff you haul!
Lately I’ve been mostly hauling nonfiction myself. And not reading it at all because I’m doing rereads xD

Ah, I want to find time for rereads! Every year I say I’m going to do that but then suddenly the year’s over:-/
I’m sooooo looking forward to Sin Eater!
Jocelyn @ A Little Nerd Told Me recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday: The Ten Most Recent Additions to My Bookshelf
I hope you get the chance to read it:-)
Oh my god, I’ve hardly been able to even consider 2021 releases (other than the next installment in the Senlin Ascends series, of course) so kudos to you for being so ready, haha! 🙂 Catherine House is one I’ve had my eye on–it sounds so intriguing. I just finished an ARC of Sin Eater a couple weeks ago and it was so interesting. I’ve been side-eyeing its comparison to Alice in Wonderland a little bit, haha, but it’s a really neat story nonetheless and I found the concept of a Sin Eater fascinating. I love that cover for Ashlords so much! I hope you get to read and enjoy these!

I was sort of shocked to see that 2021 date already. I mean, we’ve barely started 2020!
I was invited to read The Sin Eater, but I didn’t accept it since my ARC situation is out of control, but I’ll be excited to hear what you thought! Happy Reading!

I know what you mean, my ARCs are out of control as well:-)
They all look great! I hope you would love them all and I am looking forward to your views on them!
So many great new books. I cant wait for that Kate Elliott book, I feel like I’ve been waiting two years and it’s almost here!
Ok, you’ve sold me on Corporate Gunslinger!
Lauren @ Always Me
ooh, I like the sound of both of those university setting stories! I adored Ninth House so I’m game for more in that vein. 😀 loving the witch sorority in particular, oooh – but the 2021 release date hurts me a little..
The Ravens author collaboration sounds like a good combination of writers! I have seen the Sin Eater and it intrigued me too and I want to read it. This is the first I have heard of the year of the witchling and wow!! I need that in my life. Loving the covers in this post.

Hey! Thanks so much for giving STORMBLOOD a shout-out. We knew the cover would catch people’s eye. Hopefully the story justifies their attention.
The reason it doesn’t have a US listing is because the book hasn’t sold to a US publisher yet (something we soon hope to change). It’s available for pre-order in all Commonwealth territories (including Canada), but as far as the US goes, it’s up in the air whether it’ll be Gollancz’s US distributor publishing locally or another US-based publisher who do it themselves. It’s a complicated progress and, thankfully, it also isn’t my job.
However you manage to get your paws on it, I hope you enjoy it when you do.
Hey Jeremy, thanks for stopping by! I’ll be so curious to see what happens to your book as far as a US publishing deal goes. Good luck!
A lot of people really liked Ashlords. Unfortunately that person was not me. Boo. I’m still going to try out his sci-fi books though.
