The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this sun of York.” – A cover that puts you in mind of winter.
I was drawing a blank this week when I remembered a book I read before I started blogging, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. I think it’s perfect for the winter theme since it partially takes place in winter, and there are quite a few frosty covers to choose from! Take a look:
U.S. edition (Scholastic) hardcover 2009 | UK (?) edition paperback 2009 | German edition 2010
US paperback 2014 | French edition 2010 | Polish edition 2011
Portuguese edition 2014 | Scholastic edition 2012 | Danish edition 2010
Russian edition 2011 | Chinese edition 2010 | Protuguese edition 2010
I like a lot of these, but I’m really drawn to the Russian edition the most, for some reason:
So many to choose from! I like the UK edition the best because I really like the black and white, graphic look.

Actually- I like all of these covers, but if I had to pick some favorites: German, Danish, and Chinese editions 2010.
When I was doing my research for my T10T for Wintery books, this one kept coming up. I knew the author but had never heard of this title before. Most of the time I just see reviews of her (Raven boys ?) series.
I totally agree with you, something in the Russian edition looks so captivating, I love it!
Wow. That Russian edition is awesome. I read this one YEARS ago and liked it then but never finished the series. I have a feeling now if I went back I wouldn’t like it so much so I’ve been hesitant to pick it back up.
That first cover (US version) was the reason i’ve been tempted to read this many times. Every time i had to have the talk with myself that i don’t actually enjoy this genre and i probably shouldn’t buy it đŸ˜€ đŸ˜€ But it’s so pretty!
I read this earlier this year, I enjoyed the wintery theme and imagery. I am really liking the Russian cover as well, it looks like a beautiful painting
I think the Russian one is gorgeous and really matches the book itself nicely. The Chinese and Portuguese editions are lovely but not quite as fitting.
I love that wolf in the cover you choose, and that’s the reason I also like the Portuguese edition đŸ™‚

That Russian cover is lovely. I also like the black/white/red one’s a lot too.
Oh these are nice! I like the russian one too, and the US edition 2009 is a favorite, but I LOVE the spookiness and muted colors of the US 2014! Give me people walking through a mysterious wood, plus a wolf, and I’m in !

I loved this series. I think the Scholastic hardcover edition is my favorite. đŸ™‚
I’ve never read this author before – but I’m currently listening to The Scorpio Races and I’m VERY impressed with the quality of the writing, the worldbuilding and the characterisation. What a lovely lot of covers, Tammy – I really like the US paperback edition – but the one I’ve lost my heart to is the Danish edition… So pretty:)).
I like the 2009 UK edition but mainly because I like the black and white style with that touch of red.
I like your favorite, too, but I also love several. They are definitely original and I love the frosty theme.
Ooh, I love these covers, just seeing them gives me chills. My favorite is the original Scholastic, it was seeing it that made me pick up this series đŸ˜€
I’ve only seen the US cover for this one and I like that one because it’s pretty simple but wow, a lot of these are great.
I like the Russian one as well, and also the UK one just because I love black, white and red covers, lol.
Great choice for this one. So many appeal to me but I’m going with your choice!

Great choice for this theme!!! I like the French edition 2010 best tho I also like the one you chose
Funnily enough I came very close to using this one too this week (and also Mogsy’s choice). Then I remembered another book I haven’t used before which was also pre blogging. I love your choice. There are some lovely covers but that wold just appeals to me.
