The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “No thinking thing should be another thing’s property, to be turned on and off when it is convenient.” – A cover featuring a robot.
This week I’m mixing things up by showing all three books in a series that I think fits this week’s theme perfectly. Here are covers from the Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel. I’ve actually used Sleeping Giants on another Friday Face-Off post, so I’m including a few of those covers, along with the sequels, Waking Gods and Only Human. Take a look:
UK editions
Russian Sleeping Giants | German Waking Gods | German Only Human
Hungarian Sleeping Giants | Hungarian Waking Gods | Hungarian Only Human
Penguin paperback (US) Sleeping Giants | Spanish Waking Gods | Dutch Sleeping Giants
I have to say, HUNGARIANS FOR THE WIN!! Seriously, I love all the Hungarian covers, but if I had to pick just one, the Hungarian Only Human wins for me:
Yesss! The Hungarian editions for the win. Damn those are nice! If I had to pick I’d go with Waking Gods. I think it really fits that book.
I have to admit I think the Hungarian Editions are pretty awesome. I tried to read this one – as in I read the first few pages and then picked something else up. I recall liking it though and maybe some day. That Spanish edition of Waking Gods is just odd and IMHO not visually attractive.
Ooh, great pick for this topic! I really like the cover you chose, though there’s also something charming about the Penguin US paperback one. The Hungarian Sleeping Giants edition also seems to showcase the general concept fairly well, haha.
Those Hungarian covers are quite evocative! 🙂

Oh yes – the Hungarian covers are clear winners – and while I love your choice, I also very much like the cover for Waking Gods, too. Great choice for this week’s theme, Tammy:)).
Oh wow, I’ve not heard of this but I like the Penguin paperback (US) Sleeping Giants cover because the font doesn’t interfere with the image like in some of them.
I like both the Hungarian and UK covers a lot! Thought I think I like the UK covers just a tad bit more. Great choice this week!

I’ve never seen those UK editions before. 🙂
It took some time to decide as many of these are spectacular. I’m going with your choice. Wow!

Oh right, this book had some great covers! I know you didn’t include the US cover because you’ve done it before, but I’ve always been partial to the cut out dust jacket.
I love the UK Waking Gods- definitely my fave!!!
Great series. I listened to the audiobooks. Multiple narrators really made the story come alive! I agree with your cover pick!

Wow, I love that you chose these books, Tammy, because it shows how unique cover designs can be. They are all sooooo different! I am loving the Hungarian covers too!
I have to agree with you on Hungarian.
Totally agree with you. The Hungarian covers are gorgeous! I love everything about them.
This is one trilogy I sooooo need to try out someday but wow, the Hungarian covers are pretty cool!

Eesh- I love all the UK editions (why are they always better than the US editions?!) and all the Hungarian covers. Great pick! I still need to read these.
Wow. This is a great choice of book with some great covers. Very difficult to choose but I do like your favourite.
Lynn
Ooooh, I really like those UK editions….
I had only seen the US covers but I have to agree, the Hungarian covers are beautiful!
