The Friday Face-Off: Upside Down

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: A cover that is upside down.

So I’m really tired after five exhausting days at Comic Con, and I’m kind of throwing this together quickly. I decided to just show a bunch of covers I’ve found with various upside down elements. I find upside down covers very unsettling, and I absolutely love when cover artists tweak things to make you feel off balance. Some of these I’ve read and some I haven’t, and I know there are a ton out there that I just didn’t think of, but here are a few I really like:

I’m not picking a favorite because I just can’t! But I have to say after looking at these in a group like this, I feel a little dizzy! Ha ha.

Do you have a favorite?

  1. Lots of great covers here- but I think my favorite is The Dark Intercept- and I haven’t even seen it around before so I’m going to go check it out!

  2. I think I like The Lam Will Slaughter The Lion just for that cool blue cover, although I like Teeth in the Mist and Chilling Effect too.

The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion is so unsettling, since you only see the reflection. I haven’t read that one but I’d like to:-)

Every once in a while I post twice a day, but I really don’t like to. I feel like neither post gets proper attention. I guess yesterday was one of those days where I agreed to help with a giveaway, but I really wanted to do this week’s theme as well.

  3. I love the cover for The Dark Intercept, it’s intriguing even if I have no idea of the story (which I’m going to check as soon as I post this…). But I understand feeling a bit dizzy after all these upside-down covers! 😀

The Dark Intercept is one of my favorites, and I’ve definitely got it on my list to read:-)

  4. It’s fascinating seeing so many similar designs that are still so different. I really like the look of The Dark Intercept, but I think my favorite would be the high wire design of De man die de tijd meenam.

I hope it’s a good exhaustion and that you enjoyed the con!

I had a lot of fun, Todd. I almost feel back to normal after walking non stop for four days!

  5. Wow this meme has some hard themes lol, but you always find covers! I’ve never really thought about it, but you’re right, upside down covers can be unsettling. In terms of which of these I like best though, definitely The Hanged Man!

There are a ton more that I’ve seen as I look on Goodreads, but I couldn’t remember them. I do love upside down buildings especially, for some reason:-)

  6. I never knew there were so many cool upside down covers! I’ve even read a lot of these, but they didn’t come to mind when I was thinking of books for this topic. I’ve also recently learned about The Possession, and I want to read it!

I think it’s the second book in a series, but I don’t know if it can be read as a stand alone. I’d love to read it as well!

Aren’t they? Especially The Possession, there’s something about an upside down sofa:-P

  7. This is fantastic – I love seeing all these together – and I’m currently reading Shadows of the Short Days which is one of your covers above.
    Lynn 😀

  8. It is super trippy to look at these all together I am amazed you could find so many upside down covers! I couldn’t find any from the books I have read. I think I like the cover of Weave a Circle Round the best because I really like the font and the colors of space. The upside down house kind of ruins it tho
