The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “And who decided which people wore striped pyjamas.” – A cover that is striped.
I’m sure there are lots of striped covers out there that didn’t occur to me, but when I spotted The Oracle Year on my “read” list on Goodreads, I figured this would be a good one. Yes, the stripes are sort of bendy, but they are stripes nonetheless! This was such a fun read and one of my favorite books of 2018. Seriously, check it out if you haven’t already. There aren’t a lot of covers, but I think these are all pretty cool:
U.S. edition 2018 | Italian edition 2019
Bulgarian edition 2018 | German edition 2018
Spanish edition 2019 | Slovakian edition 2018
This is tough, because I really love both the Bulgarian and the Spanish editions! I think I like the Bulgarian slightly more, so I’m calling it the winner this week:
I’m all for those US & Italian covers. They would stop me in a store and make me want to pick them up.
I think I actually like the German edition strictly because of the use of bright colors against the black!
I like the Italian cover as its black but the one you picked is cool too!
The first two covers make me feel a little queasy… So I would go either with your choice or the German edition… π

Great choice! I struggled with stripes haha.
For me its a toss up between Bulgarian edition 2018 and German edition 2018. The German one I love the title but the rest of the cover is just black and boring

I also love the Bulgarian the best! Although it gives off a more scifi feel? The book was so hard to place (not really scifi, not really anything else), so it’s hard to have the cover match the mood I guess π

I think I like the US edition best, although the Bulgarian one is a close second.

In terms of aesthetics, I’m gonna have to go with the Spanish edition!
Ooh, this week’s was a good one! I really love the Bulgarian edition you chose, as well as the US one.

Oh wow- I didnβt realize you had reviewed The Oracle Year. I have this on my Read Me Maybe because I was poisoned by some less stellar (though also not really negative reviews).
My favorites are the German 2018 and Spanish 2019 with the Bulgarian edition coming in third!

I was so close to choosing this cover! It was in my top three possibilities and I almost went with it because it was a bit more obscure. I have to say I like the original US cover, the stripes and the eye in the middle really draws your attention !
I like the one you picked here, Tammy. I want to read this book and keep debating getting it on BOTM, but that US cover just does not work for me. I donβt know why!
What a great choice – I love the Us and Italian versions but your choice is great too.

My eye went straight to the one you picked. I love the colors and the silhouette of the man looking at what’s in the center of the photo.

So many different versions for this one. I like your choice the best.

The first two are so hypnotic looking π π Love it!
Those first two covers are trippy! I love the one you went with, I probably would have picked that one too. π
I really liked the contrast of the italian one!
