The months are speeding by, and it’s already summer! As I’m writing this, the weather in southern California has been cool and rainy lately, but it looks like we’re going to have sun today. I shouldn’t complain about the cool weather, because once it gets hot, it will be REALLY hot, and I’ll be wishing for cloudy days.
As far as June reading goes, I have quite a few June releases to get to, although I’m happy to report that I’ve already read two of them and have started a third. That’s what long weekends are for, at least in my world! And it’s a good thing I’m a little ahead, because my June TBR is out of control, as you can see below:
Most Anticipated Books of the Month:
These four books are “must reads” for me:
The Girl in Red by Christina Henry. I’ve already read this and I’m not surprised that I loved it, just like I’ve loved all of Henry’s books:-D Look for a review in the next week or so. I’m also interviewing Christina Henry this month, so check back in the middle of the month for that!
The Fall by Tracy Townsend. This is book #2 in Townsend’s Thieves of Fate series, and I couldn’t be happier to dive back into her wonderful world. I absolutely loved The Nine, and I may actually be reading this when this post goes live.
Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey. Gailey is on fire these days, with multiple releases coming out, and there’s some buzz surrounding this book. I’m hoping the hype is real!
Empress of Forever by Max Gladstone. I’m excited to read Gladstone’s latest, which is the first time in years, I believe, that he’s veered off from his Craft Sequence. So far I’m hearing good things about this!
Other June Releases to Get Excited About:
I have two highly anticipated books, courtesy of Orbit: The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind by Jackson Ford (longest title ever!) and Velocity Weapon by Megan E. O’Keefe. Both sound great!
The Grand Dark by Richard Kadrey sounds good, but I’m worried about all the mixed reviews on Goodreads. I guess we’ll see…
I’m so curious to see what Blake Crouch does after Dark Matter, which I loved a few years ago. His latest is Recursion and seems to be just as twisty.
Unraveling by Karen Lord will be my first book by this author, and I’m quite looking forward to it.
My June novella will be Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh. I’ve been excited about this since the cover reveal, so my expectations are a tad high. Hopefully it will be just as good as the cover!
I’ve already read Five Midnights by Ann Dávila Cardinal, and it was slightly disappointing, unfortunately. I’m still unpacking my thoughts, but I’ll have a review up Monday if you want to read my review.
Coil by Ren Warom sounds so unusual, sort of a mix of horror and SF. Also, it sounds like my kind of book, I can’t wait to read it!
Orange World by Karen Russell. I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Russell, so I do hope I can find time to read her latest short story collection.
I’m curious about The Haunted by Danielle Vega. I’ve read a few books of hers and enjoyed them, but I’ve seen some mixed reviews of her latest, so we’ll see.
The Lesson by Cadwell Turnbull. I requested this on a whim months ago, so we’ll see how far I get with my reading pile. This might get pushed, since there’s no way I’m reading all of these books!
Other Stuff:
I don’t have any other set plans for June on the blog, other than my Book Review Giveaway which kicked off last month. I read some awesome books in May, so stop by on the 15th if you’d like a chance to win one of them:-D
I’m really looking forward to Robert Jackson’s book – it sounds awesome.
Me too:-)
My most highly anticipated June book is the new Artemis Fowl graphic novel. I need it so badly!
I hope you get it soon, Stephanie!
“Coil” looks very interesting indeed – in a chillingly scary way, granted, but interesting 🙂
And having just started “Velocity Weapon” I can tell you that it’s very, very promising…

Oh cool! I can’t wait to read it, and also to hear your thoughts:-)
oh, how timely, I was just discussing retellings with some bookstagrammer friends and a couple were saying they wanted Red Riding Hood retellings…look at that, Christina Henry, way to deliver! love that badass cover, although her writing is a bit too brutal for me, haha
I’m super intrigued by Empress of Forever (feminist Guardians of the Galaxy + Star Wars? okay!), though the plot sounds a bit head-spinning, this is why I normally stick with YA, not to be rude, but it’s not as challenging as dense sci-fi, lol. still, the Loki-esque helmet on the cover compels me to try it.
oh no, I was super excited for Five Midnights, sad that you weren’t keen on it. I’m def interested to see your review whenever you post it! I guess I’ll pin my hopes on Teeth in the Mist as my June horror read then…
I really want to read Teeth in the Mist, I hope you love it! And also, you may enjoy Five Midnights, I always say that because my taste doesn’t always match up with other readers. Plus a lot of people on Goodreads loved it:-)
The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind – that’s one I definitely have to know more about based on the title alone Can’t wait to hear what you thought of it. Hope you enjoy all these!

That title is crazy, right? I have a feeling it’s going to have a lot of humor:-)
I don’t know very many of your books but they look cool! I hope we both like The Girl in Red!!
I really loved The Girl in Red, I hope you do too:-)
Can’t wait to read A Girl in Red and Recursion in the near future! My expectations are high! 😀

I loved The Girl in Red, and I have high hopes for Recursion, I hope we both love it!
I’m really excited about The Girl in Red and Recursion, too, Tammy, and all of these sound so good! Happy June reading!
I think June is going to be awesome:-)
I didn’t really get to many of my reading goals in May, so I’m hoping to get back into more fantasy in June!
I seem to have a fantasy heavy month too, which is ironic because LAST month was Wyrd & Wonder;-)
Your June seems to be quite full! And you mentioned a ton of interesting books, too! I hope you would enjoy all of them. I read only Magic For Liars and, sadly, it wasn’t for me, but I hope you would have more luck with it!
I hope I like Magic for Liars better than you, I guess we’ll see:-)
Lots of great looking books here. I’m curious about Empress of Forever and Velocity Weapon. At the moment I’m enjoying A Hero Born by Jin Yong, the first of a long Chinese epic full of martial arts goodness. Then I plan on reading Lies of Descent by Troy Carrol Bucher. That’s as far as my plan goes. 🙂
Hey sometimes it’s best not to have too many plans:-)
I’m really interested to see what you think of Velocity Weapon. I keep seeing it mentioned here and there but I don’t think I’ve seen an actual review for it anywhere.
I don’t think I have either. I’ll be starting in the next couple of weeks, I’ll let you know!
Looks like an exciting list of reads. I have The Girl in Red and Recursion on my plate for this month too and am so excited for both of them.

I haven’t read many reviews of Recursion yet so I’m super curious:-)
I’m looking forward to your review and interview for The Girl in Red! It sounds so interesting, and I’m hoping to read it once it’s out!
I really loved it, my review will be up Thursday:-)
Lots of good looking books here. So I’m first in line for The Girl in Red and The Haunted on Overdrive so I should be getting them on release day. I’m really excited about them and I can’t wait for your interview with Christina Henry! I love her so much. I am also getting Teeth in the Mist by Dawn Kurtagich on release day. Overdrive is really kicking it lately!
Christina Henry is the best, and I think I read somewhere she’s got a couple other books already written and just waiting to be sold or go through the publishing process. I think I asked her that question in the interview so hopefully we’ll find out:-)
So many good books! I don’t know if I’ll be able to get to any new releases this month because I’m so far behind on new releases from earlier this year. Hope you have a great June!
Thanks Lisa! I’m behind too, in fact I’d love to go back to March/April and catch up on some of the review books I missed, but June might not be the month that happens:-/
My June TBR is going to be a beast to keep on top of, in part because I have multiple “big books” (400+ pages) to get through for review. Velocity Weapon is going to be my next read, trying to get that done before release!
Caitlin G. recently posted…June 2019 Most Anticipated Releases
Velocity Weapon is pretty big, isn’t it close to 500 pages? I always read less books when I have too many 400+ page books, but hopefully they will be so engaging they’ll go by fast:-)
I wasn’t super enthralled with Magic for Liars so I hope you love it better than I did! And I loved the Craft Sequence books and I’m super excited to try Empress of Forever. I’m curious to see Max Gladstone will adapt to scifi!
I’m so curious about Max’s new book, I think it’s the first novel he’s written that isn’t part of the Craft Sequence, right?
I’m currently reading the Fall – intriguing so far although it took me a little while to immerse.
Silver in the Wood looks good – will keep an eye out for that one.
Lynn 😀
I hate to say it but I put The Fall down temporarily and picked up something faster. I’ll get back to it but I felt like I was wasting reading time, because I just couldn’t get into it. I’m glad to hear you were able to push past that beginning!
I’m so curious about Recursion after having read ‘Dark Matter’, wasn’t aware it comes out soon!
