Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
This month I’m focusing all my Waiting on Wednesday posts on science fiction, in celebration of Sci Fi Month! It’s the last Wednesday of the month, so this is my last official Sci-Fi Month WoW post this year. I’m very excited to dive back into Thompson’s fascinating world:
The Rosewater Insurrection continues the award-winning, cutting edge Wormwood trilogy, set in Nigeria, by one of science fiction’s most engaging new voices.
All is quiet in the city of Rosewater as it expands on the back of the gargantuan alien Wormwood. Those who know the truth of the invasion keep the secret. The government agent Aminat, the lover of the retired sensitive Kaaro, is at the forefront of the cold, silent conflict. She must capture a woman who is the key to the survival of the human race. But Aminat is stymied by the machinations of the Mayor of Rosewater and the emergence of an old enemy of Wormwood…
Tade Thompson’s innovative, genre-bending, Afrofuturist series, the Wormwood Trilogy, is perfect for fans of Jeff Vandermeer, N. K. Jemisin, William Gibson, and Ann Leckie.
The Rosewater Insurrection (The Wormwood Trilogy #2) by Tade Thompson. Releases in March 2019 from Orbit Books. The story description is very short and rather vague, but having loved Rosewater, there is no way I’m going to miss this book!
I didn’t realize these were set in Nigeria. Actually I don’t think I’ve ever read the blurb of the first one or realized it was sci-fi lol. It sounds interesting!
It’s a fantastic series, although when I read the first book it was a standalone, I think. But I’m glad there’s another one!
Ah, maaaan… book #2 is already out too? I only bought the first one last week 😀 I’m pretty much drowning in series, haha.
Don’t worry, the second book doesn’t come out until next March:-)
I’ve actually seen this one getting some good reviews. Hope you love it!
Oh good! I can’t wait:-)
Another series on my radar that I want to get to. This sounds so good!

There’s never enough time, right?
Ah, I just grabbed a copy of Rosewater at our library sale last month! Can’t wait to read it — the sequel looks awesome too.
Oh good, I hope you enjoy Rosewater, Lisa! I’m glad it’s getting a second chance at “life” with this reprint.
Should be good!
Yes, I’m sure it will be. He’s SUCH a good writer:-)
Agreed!
Another book, another series … there’s, just, no, time!
Ha ha, I know! It’s never ending, isn’t it?
You said it. 😀
Wow, Tammy, I need to go check out Rosewater right now. Everything about this is calling to me. Wonderful choice and I hope this one lives up to the first!
Yes, do read Rosewater! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
I never did get around to reading Rosewater but these covers sure have been eye catching.

I really love the new covers. I thought the original cover for Rosewater was great, but I’m a sucker for bright colors so I have to give the edge to these new ones:-)
This cover is pretty cool. This is the first I have seen of this one and it sounds good. I will have to add it to my list!
Mary
I really love the cover too, and it matches the first book nicely:-)
This does sound good, and is interesting to see it has a different setting by being set in Nigeria. Maybe some day I’ll get to the first one

Being set in Nigeria definitely added a lot to the worldbuilding:-)
I enjoyed the first book way more than I thought I would, so I’ll probably be giving this one a read too 😀

It’s nice to be surprised, right? I’m really looking forward to the sequel as well, especially since I don’t remember that it really needed a sequel at the end.
Cover for this book is pretty neat! Never heard of this series but it looks like it pretty good from the reviews.

I love this cover too:-)
Wow, what a cover! And set in Nigeria. I’m glad to see more African- centered SF.
I’ve actually read a fair amount of stories set in Africa, there are a lot of spec fic authors out there using it as a setting, which I love:-)
My gosh this sounds A-MA-ZING!
It does sound amazing, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be!
so I wnet and read your review of book 1 and this series does sound very unique intriguing! Hope book 2 is good as well!

I hope so too! The world building is really good:-)
I still haven’t read the first – I was intending to read it for sci fi month but couldn’t fit it in. Hopefully I’ll get to it either this December or early new year.
Lynn 😀
I had a bunch of books I couldn’t fit in, so don’t worry!
The “gigantic alien Wormwood” sounds intriguing–I should look into this series!
It’s very good, I love his ideas and writing.
This sounds great, and I’m very interested in the Nigeria setting. I hope you enjoy book 2!
