The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “I wandered lonely as a cloud.” – A cover featuring clouds.
Ah, so many books to choose from this week! I decided on Fran Wilde’s debut Updraft, about a city in the clouds where people wear wing apparatuses to fly from building to building. I could only find three different covers, but honestly I love ALL of them. And that’s my favorite type of Friday Face-Off, when it’s impossibly hard to decide on a favorite! Take a look:
Tor Books 2015 hardcover
Tor Books 2016 paperback
German edition 2017
I mean, ugh, right? Which do you pick? I guess if I had to choose, I’d pick the Tor paperback because I love the angle, looking over her shoulder into the clouds.
I love all of them too and also went with the Tor Paperback. Same reason too. The angle! LOL

Wow, it would be hard to pick a favorite. I think if push came to shove I’d go with the Tor hardback. So bright yet it looks like it tells a story.
I love this book! Agree on the pick, I just love Tommy Arnold’s cover. <3 Happy Friday!
I love the paperback version too. It’s funny, the first time I saw the Hardcover version I immediately thought it was a Middle grade. It just has a cartoonish aspect to it I think.

I agree.
I love that one. I’ve seen it around a lot. I need to pick it up!
The middle cover is the best, indeed: the other two… well… meh! 😉

I can see why this would be a hard choice as they are all, as you said, great. I love watching the clouds and there are some great cloud covers out there, aren’t there? I hope you have a great weekend!
I prefer the TOR one.
All these covers are freaking incredibly but my favorite is the Tor Books 2016 paperback one. I LOVE IT!
Haha, I chose the same book! But for me, the choice was pretty simple – I just LOVE the paperback version. The hardcover actually never did much to me, I always thought the character’s face looked kinda goofy, and the first time I saw this cover I thought the clouds was snow 😀
I also immediate thought of the covers of Updraft when I saw this prompt. I think the new paperback cover with the WoC front and centre is my favourite, the colours are so beautiful in it as well.
What a cool premise for a book! I want my own wing apparatus now. My fave cover of these three is the first. All of it just works really well together for me—the layout, the font, the color, and you actually get to see her flying!

Great choice! I don’t like the Tor Hardcover very much. It looks kind of Manga ish to me? I really like the other too, but I agree the Tor Paperback is really cool!

The paperback wins for me although I also like the German edition quite a bit.
Lynn 😀
I like the Tor as well. I love the coloring and I like that we’re getting the character’s profile right than a straight on face shot. I just find that visually more interesting.
