The Friday Face-Off: Clouds

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: “I wandered lonely as a cloud.” – A cover featuring clouds.

Ah, so many books to choose from this week! I decided on Fran Wilde’s debut Updraft, about a city in the clouds where people wear wing apparatuses to fly from building to building. I could only find three different covers, but honestly I love ALL of them. And that’s my favorite type of Friday Face-Off, when it’s impossibly hard to decide on a favorite! Take a look:

Tor Books 2015 hardcover

Tor Books 2016 paperback

German edition 2017

I mean, ugh, right? Which do you pick? I guess if I had to choose, I’d pick the Tor paperback because I love the angle, looking over her shoulder into the clouds.

Which is your favorite? Have you read Updraft?

  1. I can see why this would be a hard choice as they are all, as you said, great. I love watching the clouds and there are some great cloud covers out there, aren’t there? I hope you have a great weekend!

  2. Haha, I chose the same book! But for me, the choice was pretty simple – I just LOVE the paperback version. The hardcover actually never did much to me, I always thought the character’s face looked kinda goofy, and the first time I saw this cover I thought the clouds was snow 😀

  3. I also immediate thought of the covers of Updraft when I saw this prompt. I think the new paperback cover with the WoC front and centre is my favourite, the colours are so beautiful in it as well.
