It’s Fall! At least the calendar says it’s Fall, so today we’re looking forward a bit to the books we can’t wait to read in the next few months. I consider Fall to be the months of September, October and November, so these are all books that will be releasing in those months. Here are my most anticipated, in order of release date:
Vengeful (Vicious #2) by V.E. Schwab. How many years has it been since Vicious came out? A lot, so obviously my excitement has only increased since I read Vicious. The publisher kindly sent me a finished copy so I hope to read and review this close to the release date! Release date: September 25th.
Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand. I’ve already read several rave reviews of this dark YA horror/fantasy story, and I’m looking forward to diving in soon. Release date: October 2nd.
Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2) by Laini Taylor. I wasn’t able to snag a review copy unfortunately, but I do have the UK edition on preorder to match my UK edition of Strange the Dreamer, so that’s exciting. I can hardly wait to get back into Taylor’s magical world. Release date: October 2nd.
Priest of Bones (War for the Rose Throne #1) by Peter McLean. I’m getting more and more excited to start this new series. I really enjoyed Drake by McLean, although I didn’t get any further than the first book in the series. Release date: October 2nd.
The Consuming Fire (The Interdependency #2) by John Scalzi. I had fun with the first book in the series, The Collapsing Empire, and I’m curious to see where Scalzi takes book two. Release date: October 16th.
Unholy Land by Lavie Tidhar. I really loved Central Station, and of course I have to read Tidhar’s next book. You should read the Goodreads description, because this sounds wild! Release date: October 16th.
Someone Like Me by M.R. Carey. I would never miss an opportunity to read an M.R. Carey book, and his latest sounds very different from his other books. Can’t wait! Release date: November 8th.
Abandoned (Donovan Trilogy #2) by W. Michael Gear. Outpost was one of the biggest surprises for me last year, and I’m really excited to dive back into the world of Donovan. Release date: November 20th.
Dragonshadow (Heartstone #2) by Elle Katharine White. I was a big fan of Heartstone, even if the Pride & Prejudice elements didn’t work as well as White’s amazing world-building. The blurb does mention P&P, so it will be interesting to see where she takes her story. Release date: November 20th.
City of Broken Magic by Mirah Bolender. A quick perusal of Goodreads reviews suggests the official blurb for this book doesn’t quite get it right. But I’m intrigued! Release date: November 20th.
I find it interesting that half of these are sequels, which makes me happy because I hate when I miss out on a really good series. It’s just so hard, at least for me, to go back and try to catch up!
I’m sooo excited for Vengeful!!
Yes, I think every blogger I know is excited too!
I see some familiar titles here. I can’t wait to read Sawkill Girls too. I forgot all about City of Broken Magic and I can’t believe I didn’t put Abandoned on my list. I think because I focused on September and October releases.
I’m glad Abandoned doesn’t come out until November because I’m already swamped! Hopefully by then I’ll be able to read it early, I won’t be able to wait:-)
I have the M R Carey on my list as well… and I suppose I should finally read Vicious, which has been sitting on my shelf for waaaay too long! I love John Scalzi, but since I haven’t read the 1st in this series yet, I should start there. 🙂 Great list!
Thanks Lisa, Vicious is so good, I hope you get the chance to read it!
Priest of Bones looks really good–I’m definitely going to be checking that out at some point. Great choices!
Thanks! I’m excited to start Priest of Bones, it’s got some great reviews so far:-)
I still have to read Vicious, Strange the Dreamer, and The Collapsin Empire. All are on my TBR though! hahaha I’m really excited for Priest of Bones and the new Carey as well. Happy reading, Tammy!

Thanks Bonnie! So many books, I wish I could read 14 a month like you do:-)
A lot of interesting stuff on here. I just picked up the first book in that Scalzi series because it was on sale. I’ve only read his Lock In series, so looking forward to reading something more….Scalzi I guess, lol. I still have to read Vicious as well! I’m so far behind, haha.
Also, ooooooh, a new M.R. Carey book. Excitement!
Me too, I can’t seem to catch up. I actually liked Lock In a little more than the Collapsing Empire, but it was still really good.
Lots of interesting reads! 🙂
It’s just a never ending pile of interesting reads, all the time, right??!
Yes! Muse of Nightmares! Laini Taylor left both protagonists in precarious situations at the end of Strange The Dreamer, so I’m curious to see where she takes things from there.

Yes, it was sort of a cliff hanger if I remember. I cannot wait!
I am also so excited for Vengeful (even though I haven’t read Vicious yet, I have it pre-ordered), and I am starting my arc of Priest of Bones today or tomorrow!

I hope to start Priest of Bones soon as well. There are so many books coming out on October 2nd, lol. Why do publishers do that???!!
I’m seeing Sawkill Girls a lot this week and I think I’ll have to check it out. I still haven’t read any M.R. Carey or Lavie Tidhar but I must!
M.R. Carey is so good, I’ve read all of his books and loved them all:-)
I’m one fourth in with MR Carey’s Someone Like Me and I can tell you this book goes well beyond being a compulsive reading: it’s indeed a completely different story from his post-apocalyptic novels, but the writing is as strong and immersive as ever.

Oh I’m so excited now! I hope to start it in the next couple of weeks, so glad you’re loving it:-)
I haven’t read a book by V.E. Schwab yet but I really wanna read one because I know many readers who really love her books.
I really love her books, and Vicious is my favorite:-)
Vengeful and Muse of Nightmares made my list this week too. Can’t wait to read both of them!
They are pretty popular today for sure:-)
I’ve seen Vengeful on so many lists today but I still haven’t read Vicious yet I’ll get around to it some day. I hope you enjoy Vengeful!
Me too, thanks for visiting!
I’m hoping to hit up a lot of these in the fall, as well as a bunch of summer books that I didn’t get to. Say it with me: too many books, not enough time! 😀
The Consuming Fire- can’t wait for that one! And Someone Like Me sounds good- I haven’t read Carey yet (except for some of his comics stuff).

I’ll definitely be looking out for the M. R. Carey book, I’ve really enjoyed everything else I’ve read by him.
The cover of Unholy Land immediately makes me want to know more about the book, even though you shouldn’t judge by the cover 🙂
Great list!

Sawkill Girls – without a doubt! The more I see it pop up, the more I’m kicking myself for not having read my ARC yet, haha. I’m hoping to do just that this weekend so fingers crossed I can add to the raving reviews! 😀
Here’s my TTT should you be interested. 🙂

Great list I definitely want to read Carey and I’m excited for DragonShadow.
Lynn 😀
I do not have any of these on my tbr, I haven’t even heard of some until now, but I hope you enjoy them! I am loving the cover for Unholy Lands. And City of Broken Magic was one that kind of got my attention, but I’ve not read any reviews, so I’m gonna have to do that now and see what they’re saying!
