Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
Again! An exciting cover reveal that I’ve been waiting for just appeared on Goodreads and I’m over the moon excited to share it with you, if you haven’t already seen it:
“A gripping tale of a woman who refuses to be defined by her physical and magical limitations, thwarting both assassins and all who see her as a pawn. A great read!” — Brandon Sanderson, on Curtis Craddock’s An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors
A Labyrinth of Scions and Sorcery is the masterful sequel to Curtis Craddock’s critically-acclaimed high fantasy An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors, which continues the engrossing tale of courtly intrigue and breathtaking magic, and starring our fiercely intelligent heroine Isabelle des Zephyrs with her loyal musketeer Jean-Claude.
Isabelle des Zephyrs has always been underestimated throughout her life, but after discovering the well of hidden magic within her, unveiling a centuries-long conspiracy, and stopping a war between rival nations, she has gained a newfound respect amongst the cutthroat court.
All that is quickly taken away when Isabelle is unfairly convicted of breaking the treaty she helped write and has her political rank and status taken away. Now bereft, she nevertheless finds herself drawn into mystery when her faithful musketeer Jean-Claude uncovers a series of gruesome murders by someone calling themselves the Harvest King.
As panic swells, the capital descends into chaos, when the emperor is usurped from the throne by a rival noble. Betrayed by their allies and hunted by assassins, Isabelle and Jean-Claude alone must thwart the coup, but not before it changes l’Empire forever.
A Labyrinth of Scions and Sorcery (The Risen Kingdoms #2) by Curtis Craddock. Releases in January 2019 from Tor Books. An Alchemy of Masks and Mirrors was a happy surprise last year, and I couldn’t be more excited to read this follow up. I have a feeling next year is going to be the Year of the Sequel for me, since I’m already looking forward to so many of them. I know I sound like a broken record lately, but if you haven’t started this series you have about five months to catch up! On a design note, it looks like the cover style is changing for book two, which isn’t something I usually go for, but I do like the subtle change for the paperback release of Alchemy, which will go nicely with the new book:
I think I like the new cover better – especially the one for book 2. You are killing me showcasing all these sequels – when I haven’t even read the first ones yet!
I know! I feel bad with three sequels in a row, but blame the publishers, they are the ones who revealed all the covers at the same time!
I completely missed Alchemy, but this catches my interest. I may have to go back and catch up prior to release.
I think you’d enjoy it, such a surprisingly good read.
Love this cover. I have the first one in my TBR pile, I should bump it up in priority. 🙂
Oh yes, definitely bump it up!
I’m dying to read this one! Need me some more Isabelle and Jean-Claude in my life. Normally I’m not big on cover redesigns either, but I actually like this new direction and I don’t think it looks too out of place next to the original cover.

I agree, I think I like the font better, plus the author’s name is bigger:-)
Adding book one to my TBR. Thanks for sharing the series.
I hope you enjoy it:-)
Not familiar with this author or series at all – but I’m feelin that purple sky!
Ha ha, me too! Purple is one of my favorite colors, maybe that’s why I love this.
That cover is absolutely gorgeous! I will have to go check out the series!
I agree, I love these covers too!
I’ve been waiting to have this on my WoW but there wasn’t a cover and a blurb – but so happy to see it here. The first was brilliant.
Lynn 😀
I think I caught the cover and blurb just yesterday when I was browsing, otherwise I would have missed it:-)
I just finished book one! I’m waiting anxiously for the follow up 🙂
Oh cool, I hope you love it!
YAY, I’ve been waiting for more news on this one and that cover does NOT disappoint! Now to wait patiently until 2019…
I know, it seems like a long wait:-/
I love books like this and haven’t read this one, so I’ll have to start with book one and then read this. Thanks for sharing!
I was kind of iffy on the color choice of this cover because it’s just so pink! But yes, definitely excited about the book 😀

This is an author who has slipped past me so far… though judging by your opinion of the first book and the enthusiastic endorsement from everyone else who’s read it – I need to check this one out in due course. Many thanks for sharing it!
I hadn’t heard of this series before but it sounds wonderful. I love those covers too. Adding both books to my TBR now!
omg this series has the best titles ever! I want to read it just because all my favorite words are on those titles! Labyrinth, Sorcery Alchemy, Masques, Mirrors.. wow! Hope it is good and you enjoy it!

Great! I throughly enjoyed the first book so I’m hoping the next book will be just as good. I don’t mind the wait, if the book is good. 🙂
