Waiting on Wednesday [265] – MOONSHINE by Jasmine Gower

Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!

Let’s hear it for ANOTHER gorgeous Angry Robot cover reveal:

Daisy’s starting a new job and stylish city life, but mage-hunters out for her dark magic threaten to destroy her vogue image.Ā

In the flourishing metropolis of Soot City (a warped version of 1920s Chicago), progressive ideals reign and the old ways of magic and liquid mana are forbidden. Daisy Dell is a Modern Girl – stylish, educated and independent – keen to establish herself in the city but reluctant to give up the taboo magic inherited from her grandmother.

Her new job takes her to unexpected places, and she gets more attention than she had hoped for. When bounty hunters start combing the city for magicians, Daisy must decide whether to stay with her new employer – even if it means revealing the grim source of her occult powers.

Moonshine by Jasmine Gower. Releases in February 2018 from Angry Robot. The cover is by artist Jonathan Coulthart, who’s also done a few other Angry Robot covers. I’ve read several books dealing with the Roaring Twenties and magical alcohol, so I’m really looking forward to this, and I think the Art Nouveau cover design fits perfectly with the story blurb!

Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-DĀ

  1. I agree, mixing magic with the Prohibition Era is a rather intoxicating combination. šŸ˜‰ I really enjoyed Lee Kelly’s A Criminal Magic, which had a similar premise, so I’ll be interested in hearing your thoughts on this one if you have a chance to review it!

That’s the book I was thinking of too, when I saw this. I think it worked well, hopefully this will too:-D

LOL! I wasn’t there, it was my daughter and some kids in her choir. They were actually on a TV show last week called XQ Super School, and Tom Hanks was one of the celebrities. He was totally cool and super nice to the kids and took that selfie with them. Plus my daughter got to be on stage with DJ Khaled for about 5 minutes. It was pretty cool!

  2. i love the setting for this one – not a lot of books set in the era and so I tend to find myself intrigued when I do come across a book – plus, that cover would certainly grab anyone’s attention wouldn’t it.

Yes, I’m pretty sure it’s the same artist. I’m a huge fan of his after seeing what he’s done in the book world lately!
