It’s July you guys! I blinked and June was over… I thought July was going to be a relatively relaxed reading/blogging month for me, but I turned around and suddenly I’ve got all sorts of things going on!
And because I’m no longer doing my monthly Book Review Giveaway, I’m going to use this post to recap my reviews from the previous month, so read to the end to see what I read in June.
Here are the books I’m planning on reading in July:
Devil’s Call by J. Danielle Dorn. I’ve heard AMAZING things about this book, and I hope to join the ranks of readers who love this book!
Strange Practice (Dr. Greta Helsing #1) by Vivian Shaw. Greta Helsing is a doctor to the dead. That sounds like a fantastic story concept to me!
Entertaining Demons by Daniel I. Russell. I just added this to my pile, and it’s got some great reviews already on Goodreads. I’m looking forward to this story about a teenaged girl and the scary reality TV show she works on.
The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell. This sounds amazing, and I can’t wait to check out this tale of magic that takes place in New York City.
The Queen of Swords by R.S. Belcher. I meant to read this in June, but you know. Life always seems to get in the way! That and a way-too-big TBR.
An Oath of Dogs by Wendy N. Wagner. The cover was enough to get me to download a review copy of this book, but the story, which involves sentient dogs, sealed the deal.
Blog Tours, Author Interviews & Giveaways:
Yep, you read that right. I’m excited to be giving away a copy of Lost Boy by Christina Henry! My review and giveaway should be up this Thursday (provided all goes well) so check back then! So far I’m loving this Peter Pan story told by the infamous Hook.
I’ll be posting my review of The Truants this Friday, July 7th, and I have an interview with author Lee Markham in the works, which will be posted later this month. This book was very dark, and I enjoyed…parts of it. I’ll explain all in my review.
I’ve also got an upcoming author interview planned this month with Geoffrey Girard, whose latest book Truthers will be out next month. Look for my review and the interview towards the end of the month.
And finally, I’m on the review blog tour for Philip Pullman’s The Golden Compass, which I’ll be reviewing on July 17th. I haven’t read this book in over twenty years (!!) but I’m really happy to have the chance for a reread.
Books read and reviewed in June (click on the title links if you missed my review!):
Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory
Fata Morgana by Steven R. Boyett & Ken Mitchroney
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne M. Valente
Geek Actually by Cathy Yardley, Melissa Blue, Rachel Stuhler & Cecilia Tan
Mars Girls by Mary Turzillo
I am curious about Devil’s Call so I hope you enjoy it. Strange Practice sounds interesting too! I loved Lost Boy so I am glad to hear you are enjoying it. 🙂
I loved Lost Boy too! I just finished it and it was wonderful and heartbreaking.
I’ll be interested in seeing your review of The Last Magician, since it’s a new release on my radar.
I may also try to reread The Golden Compass this month. I’m going to be a course tutor for a class on gender in YA fantasy that’s reading it. Since I can hardly remember anything from when I first read it in middle school, I’d better pick it up again.
Oh cool, that sounds like an interesting course:-) Yeah, I don’t remember much, so I’m very curious to see if my reactions change at all.
I keep forgetting that Phillip Pullman’s new series starts later this year! I’d really like to check it out, since I enjoyed the Dark Materials Trilogy. Have fun with the Golden Compass re-read!
I’m very excited to get started on The Golden Compass, next book I think. I do hope it doesn’t change my memories too much of the first time I read it. This series really holds a special place in my heart.
I got really lucky and won a copy of Mars Girls and cannot wait to read it. I probably would’ve adored the cover and moved on without your review, so thanks!
Oh congrats! I hope you enjoy it!
I won a copy of The Lost Boys and I read the first few chapters which have intrigued me. I’m also looking forward to Devil’s Call.
Happy reading
Lynn 😀
I won my copy of Lost Boys too! I just finished it this morning and wow, I loved it! And I just started Devil’s Call and already it’s sucking me in. Looks like July might be a pretty good month;-)
Welp you just reminded that I need to read The Last Magician this month as well. o_o That, and The Hearts We Sold, and then maybe I’ll be finished with July review books? I’m so behind. Last year I was nearly in September review books at this time of the year. -.- Oh well! I hope we both love The Last Magician!
Have a great week, Tammy. =)

You’ve always been so good at staying ahead. I’m just happy if I manage to read my July books in July, lol!
Lost Boy is on my plate for July as well, and Strange Practice and Queen of Swords if I can somehow cram them in, lol. I am so excited that Devil’s Call is on your list, I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

I just started Devil’s Call and I’m already half way through it! I can’t put it down:-)
What a marvellous month of books, Tammy – and I love the line-up you have for July. Strange Practice, The Last Magician and An Oath of Dogs are all CALLING to me *drools with envy*. Looking forward to reading what you make of these:)

I read the Golden Compass about ten years ago so I am due for a re-read too, I will look forward to your review of it! 🙂
I am loving Lost Boy too. I plan on reading Devil’s Call but really need to sit down and plan my TBR. I also want to grab An Oath of Dogs when it releases tomorrow.
Yesss, cannot wait for Strange Practice! I also really need to read The Six-Gun Tarot and The Shotgun Arcana just so that I can read The Queen of Swords. Love that cover!
I’m looking forward to your thoughts on The Last Magician since I think it can go either way for me and I’m being super careful in choosing my reads this year (only read one book that was below 4 stars for me so far)
