Over-Booked [66] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I’m excited to share a couple of highly anticipated titles that came my way in the last two weeks! Throw in a couple of surprises, and here’s what’s made it onto my book pile lately:

Physical copies:

Thanks to Tor for the surprise copy of Smells Like Finn Spirit by Randy Henderson. This is a series I’ve heard such great things about, and yet. I can never find time to read unsolicited review copies. I think the wonderful folks at Tor have sent me all three books in the series now, so perhaps a binge read is in order??

Wilder by Brenda Cooper. Huge thanks to Pyr for this book! I’ve wanted to read something by Cooper ever since reading glowing reviews for her Glittering Edge series. This story sounds right up my alley, and it seems to have an ecological theme to it.

A surprise from Jo Fletcher Books, Secrets of the Greatcoats is a lead-up to the fourth and final book in Sebastien de Castell’s beloved series, Tyrant’s Throne. Although I’m not reading this series (and why not, I keep asking myself!), I’m curious to check out this recap of the first three books, as well as extra material that I’m sure will enhance the story.

Digital review copies:

Lost Boy by Christina Henry. Many thanks to Berkley Books for this! I’m looking forward to Henry’s take on the Peter Pan story, and from experience with previous books of hers, I’m expecting this to be dark.

Borne by Jeff VanderMeer. VanderMeer is one of those writers you either get or you don’t get, love or don’t love, but I happen to fall on the “love” side. Borne sounds just as odd as his Southern Reach trilogy! Thank you Farrar, Straus & Giroux!

Let me know if you’re planning on reading any of these books:-D

I also have three fantastic giveaways going on right now! Check my sidebar to enter if you haven’t already!

Thanks Sarah! One of these days I hope to start that series, but then again there are so many series I want to read. I just can’t read everything:-/

  1. I have only heard of Lost Boy and I am curious about that one so I hope you enjoy it. The cover of Borne I don’t really get…lol…but maybe it reflects the writer. 🙂

No one gets that cover! But knowing VanderMeer’s stories, I’m sure it has something to do with a weird alien plant or something:-)

  2. What is that on the Borne cover? Can’t seem to figure it out :0
I’ll be doing a haul myself soon. I’ve noticed those are best for me to even remember what I obtained 😀
Do you ever buy books yourself anymore? Doesn’t seem like you’d have the breathing space, they are just bombarding you with releases, lol 😀 do you feel at least a little under pressure?

Yes, I still buy books, but not nearly as many as I did before I started blogging. And yes to being under pressure! I’m trying to get better at accepting/requesting less books for review, but it’s hard.

I recently saw Borne pop up somewhere else recently. It sounds very interesting, though I’ve not yet tried any of VanderMeer’s work.

I know there are a ton of Peter Pan retellings, but I love Christina Henry and expect this will be really good.

  4. All of these look amazing! Definitely adding the ones that I haven’t heard of on my TBR. Discovering new books is probably my favorite part about book hauls! Even though my TBR is already longer than I could have ever anticipated. And I’m pretty sure that, it’ll just keep getting longer and longer. Hope you enjoy all your new books and have a great week!

Yes, that’s the double edged sword of getting new books: trying to find time to read them all! Thanks for stopping by!

Yesss! I’m super excited for Lost Boy. I’ve read a few books from Henry’s urban fantasy series, and they were pretty good. But I’m super intrigued by her retellings, especially since they’re touted as having some horror elements mixed in. The darker the better, as far as I’m concerned! I can only imagine Lost Boy will also be a little on the darker side, and that’s okay by me 🙂

Her Alice series was very good, and also very dark, and I’m hoping for more of that with Lost Boy.
