Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my most recent book acquisitions, which include review books, purchases and sometimes giveaway wins! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
I’ve restrained myself when it comes to digital review copies, but it’s much harder to say “no” to physical copies. Here’s what I received in the past few weeks:
Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough. I just started reading this, so hopefully I’ll get a review up next week. Lots of buzz about this book and the #wtfthatending. I’m curious!
Department Zero by Paul Crilley. A lovely finished paperback courtesy of Pyr Books! Take a look, if you’d like to win a copy just like this, I have a giveaway starting on Monday!
Nebula Awards Showcase 2017 edited by Julie E. Czerneda. Pyr’s annual roundup of fiction, poetry and non-fiction. I’m looking forward to this!
Upside Down: Inverted Tropes in Storytelling edited Jaym Gates & Monica Valentinelli, from Apex Books. I backed the Kickstarter for this book, and I was very happy to get it! Unlike ANOTHER Kickstarter, who shall not be named (cough Genius Loci cough) that I backed over two years ago and never got my book:-( Don’t even get me started…
Winter of the Gods by Jordanna Max Brodsky. Super excited to continue this series! The Immortals was one of my favorite books last year. Thank you Orbit!
Star’s End by Cassandra Rose Clarke. I was so excited to get this in the mail, one of my most highly anticipated books of 2017! Big thanks to Saga Press.
The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi. Big thanks to Tor for the blog tour invitation, I’ll be reviewing this in March.
An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors by Curtis Craddock. Huge thanks to the author for contacting me and offering a review copy! This is on my list of anticipated debuts of 2017, so I’m thrilled to be able to read and review it:-)
Digital review copies:
The Prey of Gods by Nicky Draydon. Huge thanks to Harper Voyager, this is another debut I’m excited to read!
River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey. This may be the first ever SFF novella about feral hippos! Big thanks to Tor.com for the review copy:-)
From Ice to Ashes by Rhett C. Bruno. Rhett contacted me to see if I’d like to review his latest, which comes out in March. This is a standalone story set in the author’s Titanborn world. I’m looking forward to it, thanks to Rhett and Random House Hydra!
Great haul! I am looking forward to Behind Her Eyes and Winter of the Gods

Behind Her Eyes is a page turner! Luckily I don’t have any commitments this weekend so I’m sure it won’t take long to finish:-)
I enjoyed Behind Her Eyes, I’d like to hear what you think once you’ve finished it 🙂

I’m hoping to finish it this weekend. I love it so far, so many secrets and lies!
I’m planning to start The Immortals series and probably read Department Zero at some point. I like the sound of River of Teeth so that might be on my wishlist soon! Enjoy your books!
I highly recommend both of those, and you gotta love the concept of River of Teeth, right?
“Star’s End” sounds very intriguing: it had already caught my attention some time ago in a passing mentions somewhere, so thank you very much for reminding me! 🙂

I seriously love everything Clarke has written, although I have not read her YA series yet.
Ooooh, Winter of the Gods! I’m looking forward to that one, too. 😀
I’m starting it soon. Really looking forward to diving back into the world of gods!
More physical copies this time 🙂 grats on the haul, these are looking great. Mostly sci-fi too?
Haven’t heard of any of them though, at least not yet.

Yes, mostly SF and fantasy. That’s what I read:-)
Lots of sci fi and fantasy this week. I do love the covers for these books. Awesome haul of books this week.

Thanks Grace, I love these covers too:-)
Behind Her Eyes has me so so so curious! Will definitely be reading that one – and I’m looking forward to your review! (I always have to restrain myself from spoiling the endings when it comes to mystery books – let’s hope I have some self-control!)

I’m about half-way through Behind Her Eyes and I’m racing to finish because I want to know what’s going to happen, it’s killing me! But I’m good, I won’t peek:-)
The Collapsing Empire is on my list, but it may take a while to get to it. I’m not familiar with any of the others (except through your review of Department Zero), so I’m hoping to see your take on those you review. River of Teeth sounds strangely interesting.
I’m also weirdly drawn to River of Teeth, if nothing else it should be interesting:-)
I received Winter of the Gods earlier this week too but alas it didn’t make it onto my book haul post because I had already drafted it – it’s so gorgeous, isn’t it?!
Also so awesome about An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors! The book looks good, I’m very intrigued…
Plus, have you contacted the people behind Genius Loci about your missing book? I received my rewards a while ago, but I was also at a lower pledge tier so all they needed to send was the paperback. Anyway, that really sucks, I hope you hear back from them soon!

Um yeah, I have tried to contact them in every way possible: leaving a message on Kickstarter, sending a message on Twitter to the guy who started the Kickstarter, emailing the publisher directly and even filing a complaint with Kickstarter. I’m pretty sure no one wants to deal with me:-/
I’ve had Nicky Drayden and Sarah Gailey on my TBR radar for a while. Looking forward to hearing what you think of their books 🙂
Wow, you hit the jackpot this week! So many books! Well, I see you put “over the past few weeks” BUT STILL. This is awesome. 😀 All of these are new to me! I’m curious about Star’s End though. Hopefully it’s awesome, since you’re so excited about it. I hope you enjoy all of your new books, Tammy!
Have a great weekend. =)

I would like to read the Immortals so I could then read WInter of the Gods. Alchemy of Masks and Mirrors looks right up my alley as well.

Ooh, looking forward to your thoughts on The Collapsing Empire 🙂
I don’t think I’ve heard of Department Zero before today, but it looks good! I’ll have to go check it out. You can check out my latest haul in the link below!

The two anthologies and River of Teeth look like some things I would enjoy! I really need to get to The Immortals, it’s a book that I wanted to read last year but I didn’t get the chance, now that the sequel is out, it would be nice to give it a try! 🙂
I’m a few stories into Upside Down Tropes. I’m enjoying it so far. I’m looking forward to reading the new Pinborough this week. Enjoy!!
What an awesome haul. I have River of Teeth as well even though I forgot to haul it. I’m super interested to learn more about those hippos – what a cool concept. I need to get to Behind Her Eyes as well.

Damn, you got some books this week! I really have got to read some Scalzi one of these days. I have my eye on Lock In I think it is.

I’m really excited to hear what you think of An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors, Tammy! It sounds sooo good, and I’ve been dying for more historical fantasy.

It does sound good, although it’s so far away from being published (August!). I may have to read it WAY earlier!
Can’t wait to read Pinborough. I do love her work.
Also, Winter of Gods. *wants*
