It’s Wednesday again…time to highlight another book I’m excited to read! That’s a never-ending list, as many of you know:) Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. Here’s what I’m excited to read:
Viral Nation by Shaunta Grimes. Release date: July 2 2013 (Berkley Trade). I think I ran across this book on someone else’s Waiting on Wednesday last week, and I immediately added it to my Goodreads TBR. I’m absolutely in love with the cover, every element just comes together so well, don’t you think? And, there’s a dog! I can immediately be won over by dogs, although this poor guy looks like he’s going to slip off that car! After I added this to Goodreads I realized that the author’s name seemed familiar to me, and then it hit me: I’ve been reading her blog, Story Carnivores, for a while now. I’m so happy her first book is about to come out! Here’s the description from Goodreads:
After a virus claimed nearly the entire global population, the world changed. The United States splintered into fifty walled cities where the surviving citizens clustered to start over. The Company, which ended the plague by bringing a life-saving vaccine back from the future, controls everything. They ration the scant food and supplies through a lottery system, mandate daily doses of virus suppressant, and even monitor future timelines to stop crimes before they can be committed.
Brilliant but autistic, sixteen-year-old Clover Donovan has always dreamed of studying at the Waverly-Stead Academy. Her brother and caretaker, West, has done everything in his power to make her dream a reality. But Clover’s refusal to part with her beloved service dog denies her entry into the school. Instead, she is drafted into the Time Mariners, a team of Company operatives who travel through time to gather news about the future.
When one of Clover’s missions reveals that West’s life is in danger, the Donovans are shattered. To change West’s fate, they’ll have to take on the mysterious Company. But as its secrets are revealed, they realize that the Company’s rule may not be as benevolent as it seems. In saving her brother, Clover will face a more powerful force than she ever imagined and will team up with a band of fellow misfits and outsiders to incite a revolution that will change their destinies forever.
I cannot wait to read this…what about you? What are you waiting on this week?
I’ve never heard of neither the book nor the author! Is that bad? It sounds interesting though – Clover is an odd name! Post-apocalyptic, dystopia? It sounds pretty good! 🙂
Here is my WoW post!

Okay, this book sound super interesting. I hadn’t heard of it before, so thanks for highlighting it! You know, my sister actually hates books with dogs in them. She says that every time there’s a dog, the dog inevitably dies, and she hates it, lol!
This sounds really good, and its totally new to me, thank you! My WoW
Oh gosh yes. Tammy, this one is definitely on my wishlist. Love the cover too!
