Over-Booked [195]

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

It’s been a month since my last book haul (time flies, right?), so here are all the exciting review copies I’ve received recently:

Books in the mail for review:

We Love the Nightlife by Rachel Koller Croft sounds like an extremely fun, 80s disco vampire story, and I cannot wait to start it! This is part of my Summer of Horror reading challenge. Big thanks to Berkley for the review copy:-)

Another Summer of Horror read will be A Mask of Flies by Matthew Lyons, which sounds like a fun combination of horror and crime. Thank you Tor Nightfire!

As you know, I don’t read a ton of YA, but when it comes to YA horror, I’m always willing to try it. The Lies of Alma Blackwell by Amanda Glaze is a YA horror I’m very excited to read. Huge thanks to Union Square for this beautiful copy:-)

I am currently reading The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei, and I’m loving it so far! Look for a review next week. And thank you to Flatiron Books for my ARC:-D

Devils Kill Devils by Johnny Compton is a September release, so I won’t be reading it until then. But I am looking forward to trying one of Compton’s books, since I missed The Spite House last year. Thank you Nightfire!

A New Lease on Death by Olivia Blacke is a paranormal cozy thriller about a haunted apartment, and it looks like it’s also the start to a new series. I think this sounds fantastic! With thanks to Minotaur for the review copy!

Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil by Ananda Lima has the best title ever, and it’s getting awesome reviews. I hope to read this in the next couple of week. Big thanks to Tor for the lovely hardcover!

Unexploded Remnants by Elaine Gallagher is getting mediocre reviews, but it’s pretty short so hopefully I can knock it out soon and let you know what I think. Thank you Tordotcom!

Big thanks to Angry Robot for this special hardcover edition of Evocation by S.T. Gibson. I was not expecting them to send this, since I’ve already received an ARC. It has very pretty end papers:-)

From Orbit I received a copy of These Deathless Shores by P.H. Low, which is a Captain Hook origin story. I usually enjoy Peter Pan retellings, so hopefully this works for me. Thank you Orbit!

And finally, another thank youย to Angry Robot for a copy of Key Lime Sky by Al Hess. This would be the perfect Pride Month read, but I just won’t have time to fit it in this month, unfortunately. It comes out in August, so look for a review closer to the release date.

Digital books for review:

It Will Only Hurt for a Moment by Delilah S. Dawson. Dawson wrote one of my favorite horror books a couple of years ago, The Violence, and I’m hoping this is just as good, although the Goodreads ratings are making me a little nervous!

Beneath the Poet’s House by Christa Carmen. This Gothic suspense story sounds amazing! I loved Carmen’s last book (The Daughters of Block Island) and I can’t wait to read this.

An Academy for Liars by Alexis Henderson. A dark academia novel with an intriguing cover! I have enjoyed Henderson’s books in the past, and this sounds amazing.

The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong. This cozy fantasy sounds so good, and really, you can’t beat this lovely cover:-)

T. Kingfisher is a “must read” author, and I always get excited when she has a new book coming out. A Sorceress Comes to Call is another retelling, but I’m sure there will be lots of unique elements and twists.

Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood is a cozy fantasy that sounds adorable, and I believe it centers around Halloween. Can’t wait!

Run by Blake Crouch popped up on NetGalley, and I didn’t even realize Crouch had a new book coming out! I think this might be a reprint of a book he self-published years ago, but it’s still new to me, so I’m looking forward to it:-)

Good Dogs by Brian Asman is a werewolf story that’s been getting lots of hype. I’m curious so of course I requested it:-)

And last but not least, William by Mason Coile sounds really good. This is another October release that will be perfect for spooky season!

With thanks to Del Rey, Thomas & Mercer, Ace, Tor, Ballantine Books, Blackstone Publishing and G.P. Putnam’s Sons:-D

Do you have plans to read any of these?

Ha ha luckily these have release dates into October, so I can at least try to read them all:-)

  1. How many interesting books!! The ones I am the most excited about are the new Kingfisher’s one and The Teller of Small Fortunes, but you mentioned a lot of other titles that sound soooooo interesting!!

  2. Ooh I’ll keep an eye out for your review of The Stardust Grail, I’m glad you’re enjoying it thought. And it’s nice that you got sent a copy of a book with pretty endpapers. I always love those editions.

The ones I’m most interested in are An Academy For Liars and The Teller Of Small Fortunes but I really need to check out something by T. Kingfisher soon as it’s kind of ridiculous that I haven’t done so yet.
