Future Fiction #9 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

This week I have three cover reveals to share, all from different publishers with absolutely nothing in common! Take a look:

Kira Bennett’s earliest memories are of living alone and wild in the woods. She has no idea how long she was on her own or what she had to do to survive, but she remembers the moment that Cady Bennett and one of her search-and-rescue dogs found her perfectly. Adopted into the Bennett family, Kira still struggles with human interaction years later, but she excels at the family business: search-and-rescue. Along with Cady’s son, Jude, and their neighbor, Free, Kira works alongside Cady to train the world’s most elite search-and-rescue dogs. Someday, all three teenagers hope to put their skills to use, finding the lost and bringing them home.

But when Cady’s estranged father, the enigmatic Bales Bennett, tracks his daughter down and asks for her help in locating a missing child—one of several visitors who has disappeared in the Sierra Glades National Park in the past twelve months—the teens find themselves on the frontlines sooner than they could have ever expected. As the search through 750,000 acres of unbridled wilderness intensifies, Kira becomes obsessed with finding the missing child. She knows all too well what it’s like to be lost in the wilderness, fighting for survival, alone.

But this case isn’t simple. There is more afoot than a single, missing girl, and Kira’s memories threaten to overwhelm her at every turn. As the danger mounts and long-held family secrets come to light, Kira is forced to question everything she thought she knew about her adopted family, her true nature, and her past.

The Lovely and the Lost by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Releases in May 2019 from Freeform (Disney). After being completely surprised by my first Jennifer Lynn Barnes book last year, Little White Lies, I am excited to read more of this talented author. Honestly, I don’t even care what the story is about, but it does sound good, right?

The oasis saved them. But who will save them from the oasis?

Alif had exciting summer plans: working on her father’s archaeological dig site in the desert with four close friends . . . and a very cute research assistant. Then the sandstorm hit.

With their camp wiped away, Alif and the others find themselves lost on the sands, seemingly doomed . . . until they find the oasis. It has everything they need: food, water, shade—and mysterious ruins that hide a deadly secret. As reality begins to shift around them, they question what’s real and what’s a mirage.

The answers turn Alif and her friends against one another, and they begin to wonder if they’ve truly been saved. And while it was easy to walk into the oasis, it may be impossible to leave . . .

Katya de Becerra’s new supernatural thriller hides a mystery in plain sight, and will keep you guessing right up to its terrifying conclusion.

Oasis by Katya de Becerra. Releases in October 2019 from Imprint. Wow, this sounds so good! I love the idea of an oasis as the basis for a supernatural story. This is de Becerra’s second novel, and I’m really looking forward to it.

For Teagan Frost, sh*t just got real.

Teagan Frost is having a hard time keeping it together. Sure, she’s got telekinetic powers — a skill that the government is all too happy to make use of, sending her on secret break-in missions that no ordinary human could carry out. But all she really wants to do is kick back, have a beer, and pretend she’s normal for once.
But then a body turns up at the site of her last job — murdered in a way that only someone like Teagan could have pulled off. She’s got 24 hours to clear her name – and it’s not just her life at stake. If she can’t unravel the conspiracy in time, her hometown of Los Angeles will be in the crosshairs of an underground battle that’s on the brink of exploding . . .

Full of imagination, wit, and random sh*t flying through the air, this insane adventure from an irreverent new voice will blow your tiny mind.

The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind by Jackson Ford. Releases in June 2019 from Orbit Books. I just saw this cover reveal and I want to read it based on the cover alone! Also, I want my “tiny mind” to be blown:-D LOL. I know that “Jackson Ford” is a pseudonym for a “critically acclaimed science fiction author” (according to Amazon), and damn I want to know who it is! I did a Google search and Robert Brockway‘s name came up, but I can’t find anything definitive. Anyone have the scoop?

  1. All three of these look really good. I’ll have to make a note – I particularly love the sound of the Lovely and the Lost.
    Lynn 😀

I hate it when they keep it a secret. Like eventually people are going to figure it out because nothing is secret with the internet, right?

  2. Just laughed heartily and loudly when I saw that title – The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind – so that’s going on the tbr list. Also, rescue dogs?! OMG yes! 🙂
