Over-Booked [98] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Huge thanks to all the publishers who sent books my way! Let’s kick things off with my new BOOK CART. You guys, I asked my husband for a book cart for my birthday, and wow did he deliver! This thing is HUGE but I couldn’t love it more. Here is a shot of my physical book haul for today:

I love that it’s double sided, so I get twice as much space to put books. Here’s a breakdown of the books I received in the past few weeks:

Physical books for review:

Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto. Simon & Schuster sent me a finished copy which I wasn’t expecting. I’m still hoping to read this by the end of February.

A Labyrinth of Scions and Sorcery by Curtis Craddock. I was so excited when this showed up in the mail! I’m reading this right now and will have a review up next week. I adore this series!

The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston. I have not read the first book in the series, but I believe this is a standalone. Quirk Books offered me a review copy, and I thought it would be a nice change of pace from what I normally read. And it sounds really cute and fun!

The Dysasters by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast. I recently featured a P.C. Cast book on a Friday Face-Off, and now she and her daughter have a new book coming out! I’m very curious to see how this works for me. I’m supposed to be on the blog tour, but I don’t have a date confirmation yet. But look for a review near the end of the month.

The Haunted by Danielle Vega. I actually won this from Bookish First, and I’m quite excited to read it. Vega writes some very hard-core graphic horror, which isn’t something I read all the time, but I’ve enjoyed her books in the past.

The Rosewater Insurrection by Tade Thompson. I jumped for joy when this showed up in the mail! I loved Rosewater and I can’t wait to read this sequel. This comes out in a month, so look for a review in early March.

Next up, a quartet of finished hardcovers from publishers:

From Tor Books, The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons. This is another February book I’d like to get to, but chances are it will be pushed to March. I’ve read some great reviews, though!

Strife’s Bane by Evie Manieri. I’ve never heard of this series before, and since this is book three in the series, it’s unlikely I’ll read this. If anyone out there wants my copy, just let me know!

I also received an unexpected finished copy of Smoke & Summons by Charlie N. Holmberg. I enjoyed this book and you can read my review here. It had some problems, but I thought Holmberg’s ideas were fantastic and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

Finally, I received two copies of The Afterward by E.K. Johnston, both from the same publicist (!!) Again, if anyone wants my second copy, give a shout out in the comments and I’ll try to hook you up. This released in January so I’m already behind, but hopefully I can get to it soon.

Big thanks to Tor Books, Orbit Books, Simon Pulse, Quirk Books, Razorbill, Wednesday Books, 47North and Dutton Books for Young Readers:-D

Digital books for review:

So much goodness in my digital haul this week!!

Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey. I waited oh so long for this NetGalley approval, I was starting to get worried! But Tor came through for me. I’m looking forward to this so much, and the cover just makes me happy:-D

Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I’m a huge fan of Moreno-Garcia’s Certain Dark Things, and of course I’m excited to read her latest. She’s the type of author who doesn’t ever seem to repeat herself, so it’s always an adventure cracking open a new book!

Stephanie Burgis is such a wonderfully generous person, she’s always offering review copies of her books to bloggers. I’m excited to dive into this soon, Thornbound (The Harwood Spellbook #2).

I accidentally discovered I’m auto-approved with Penguin (not all the imprints but some?) on Edelweiss, so when The Saturday Night Ghost Club popped up with a “Download” button I didn’t even hesitate. This is a coming-of-age story that is giving me A Boy’s Life vibes for some reason.

Big thanks to Stephanie Burgis, Tor Books, Del Rey and Penguin!

Purchased:

My special limited edition copy of Golden State by Ben H. Winters showed up, and look how pretty it is! This is the UK cover, which I really love. And those black sprayed edges, I mean, gorgeous right?

And that’s my haul this week. I’d love to hear if you plan to read any of these books!

I can’t wait to read it, and if the cover is anything to go by, it’s going to be very interesting…

  1. I totally missed seeing The Haunted on Bookish First and had to look it up to see what it’s all about. ” YA’s answer to Stephen King” seems like an ambitious boast, but I’m intrigued, lol. Added to the watch list!

Bookish first doesn’t often have books I’m interested in, but I jumped when I saw The Haunted. Her books are creepy!

  2. I love your haul, Tammy, but I especially love your cart! I have a few of the smaller ones with the baskets, which cover up half the spines and I have trouble getting the books organized how I want. This would be so much better! Do you know, did it come already assembled except for putting the wheels on? I’m trying to find something similar. And Happy Birthday!

  3. I like the look of The Haunted and I really want to read the Craddock book – it’s not available to request in the UK though and it doesn’t seem to be available for kindle which is a bit sad. I rarely buy physical copies these days – maybe if I had that book cart!!!

It’s coming up fast, I want to drop everything and read it but I do have a few other books I need to get to first:-)

  4. That cart is awesome! 🙂

I think The Dysasters definitely looks interesting! And a mother/ daughter writing team- how cool. Kinda curious about the Sarah Gailey book too.

I’m curious to see how the Cast team writes these days, since it’s been like 10-12 years since I read their last books.

  5. What a great haul and what a wonderful gift – that cart is huge,. I plan on getting a smaller one eventually. I see several books here I plan on picking up and I’ve liked some of Cast’s past works so I hope to read The Dysasters eventually as well. I’m so jealous that you have “The Hunted!”

I’m excited to read all of these, and I agree, I can hardly tear my eyes away from Crown of Feathers!

  6. I would actually recommend catching up on the first two books of Evie Manieri’s series! Well, I read the first book ages ago and remember vaguely that I loved it, but I can’t remember why…so I’m obviously due for a reread. But I just bought Strife’s Bane, so I’m hoping it’s going to be good! I hope you read some good books this month!

  7. I LOVE your shelf!! Your husband is awesome! I love the color and its a library shelf! And its super cool <3 Also you need to read Geekerella! Its awesome <3
