Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Three new cover reveals for you today! Take a look:
Cassandra Harwood scandalized her nation when she became the first woman magician in Angland. Now, she’s ready to teach a whole new generation of bright young women at her radical new school, the Thornfell College of Magic…
Until a sinister fey altar is discovered in the school library, the ruling Boudiccate sends a delegation to shut down Thornfell, and Cassandra’s own husband is torn away from her.
As malevolent vines slither in from the forest and ruthless politicians scheme against her, Cassandra must fight the greatest battle of her life to save her love, her school, and the future of the young women of Angland.
Thornbound (The Harwood Spellbook #2) by Stephanie Burgis. Releases in February 2019 from Five Fathoms Press. Isn’t this cover LOVELY? I’m a huge Stephanie Burgis fan, and her Harwood Spellbook series is simply a delight. Thornbound comes out at the end of the month, so you still have time to catch up:-D
No one speaks of the grace year. It’s forbidden.
Girls are told they have the power to lure grown men from their beds, drive women mad with jealousy. They believe their very skin emits a powerful aphrodisiac, the potent essence of youth, of a girl on the edge of womanhood. That’s why they’re banished for their sixteenth year, to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage. But not all of them will make it home alive.
Sixteen-year-old Tierney James dreams of a better life—a society that doesn’t pit friend against friend or woman against woman, but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that it’s not just the brutal elements they must fear. It’s not even the poachers in the woods, men who are waiting for their chance to grab one of the girls in order to make their fortune on the black market. Their greatest threat may very well be each other.
The Grace Year by Kim Liggett. Releases in September 2019 from Wednesday Books. I’m really happy to see a new book coming out from Kim Liggett, and Universal Pictures has announced that it’s going to be a movie as well! I’m so happy for Kim, and I can’t wait to read this!
A lethal virus is awoken on an abandoned spaceship in this incredibly fast-paced, claustrophobic thriller.
They thought the ship would be their salvation.
Zahra knew every detail of the plan. House of Wisdom, a massive exploration vessel, had been abandoned by the government of Earth a decade earlier, when a deadly virus broke out and killed everyone on board in a matter of hours. But now it could belong to her people if they were bold enough to take it. All they needed to do was kidnap Jaswinder Bhattacharya—the sole survivor of the tragedy, and the last person whose genetic signature would allow entry to the spaceship.
But what Zahra and her crew could not know was what waited for them on the ship—a terrifying secret buried by the government. A threat to all of humanity that lay sleeping alongside the orbiting dead.
And then they woke it up.
Salvation Day by Kali Wallace. Releases in July 2019 from Berkley Publishing. “Thrillers in space” is totally my jam, people! I am so excited for this book. I haven’t read any of Wallace’s previous books, but I will definitely be reading this one.
Great picks! I just read the synopsis for The Grace Year last night and thought it sounded brilliant.

I agree, it’s got a great premise, and the fact that it’s already been optioned for film is exciting:-)
I really loved Thornbound, hope you enjoy it!
I can’t wait!
Well, you’ve done it again. I already had the Liggett book on my wishlist because I really like her but I still managed to add three, or actually three and a half, because of the Spellbook series. You are so dangerous to my TBR/wishlist. I remember seeing Snowspelled when it came out and being curious. There are way too many books to keep track of!
Yes, WAY too many books. I guess there are worse problems to have??
More gorgeous covers, Tammy! I’m especially intrigued by The Grace year. It sounds so promising!
I only pick the good ones;-)
The Grace Year for sure sounds like one I need to read and the cover is beautiful! Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
It is a really pretty cover:-)
Salvation Day sounds like an amazing read, one I intend not to miss – July is not so far, after all… 😉
And I strongly recommend Thornbound: it’s a delightful read, and I’m now a strong Cassandra Harwood fan!

There are so many books coming out this year, it’s going to be hard to catch up:-)
Thornbound looks amazing. Wow, what a cover. And Salvation Day sounds like a perfect read- I LOVE stuff like that. that one will be an auto buy for me!
I know what you mean, Salvation Day is exactly my kind of book too:-)
Shame on me, I still haven’t read Snowspelled. Salvation Day is definitely on my list too, but The Grace Year is a maybe…hopefully it’ll work better for me than The Unfortunates.
Yeah, I remember your reaction to The Unfortunates! I’m hopeful for this one.
I still need to read Snowspelled but UGH the covers are so gorgeous!! I love that it went from a snowy theme to a summery one. And I adore Kali Wallace’s books–they’re beautifully atmospheric and always so feminist–and I can’t wait to see what she does with an adult scifi 😀
