Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
During the month of November, all my Waiting on Wednesday picks will be upcoming sci-fi books I can’t wait to read. Week #2 is super exciting, and I’ve been waiting for the cover to be released before I featured it. Today’s the day:
A decadent rock star. A deeply religious radio host. A disgraced scientist. And a teenage girl who may be the world’s last hope. In the tradition of The Stand and Station Eleven comes a gripping saga that weaves an epic tapestry of humanity into an astonishing tale of survival.
Shana wakes up one morning to discover her little sister in the grip of a strange malady. She appears to be sleepwalking. She cannot talk and cannot be woken up. And she is heading with inexorable determination to a destination that only she knows. But Shana and are sister are not alone. Soon they are joined by a flock of sleepwalkers from across America, on the same mysterious journey. And like Shana, there are other “shepherds” who follow the flock to protect their friends and family on the long dark road ahead.
For on their journey, they will discover an America convulsed with terror and violence, where this apocalyptic epidemic proves less dangerous than the fear of it. As the rest of society collapses all around them–and an ultraviolent militia threatens to exterminate them–the fate of the sleepwalkers depends on unraveling the mystery behind the epidemic. The terrifying secret will either tear the nation apart–or bring the survivors together to remake a shattered world.
Wanderers by Chuck Wendig. Releases in July 2019 from Del Rey Books. Chuck’s been talking about this book for months on his blog, and it’s finally up on Goodreads with a cover. It sounds epic, and July can’t come soon enough for me!
Well, this sounds good!
But also, 800 pages, whoa! If it’s as good as The Stan, then of course it’s all well and good 😀
I really like the cover as well.
Haven’t read anything by this author but was just looking at what else he wrote and they sound pretty intriguing.
He’s such a good writer, especially if you like dark fiction. And I agree, the cover is really cool:-)
This sounds really good and is the comparison to The Stand because of the page count? Just kidding. I am very interested in checking this out!
Well, it does seem about the same length as The Stand, I guess we’ll find out!
Holy shit, this sounds AMAZING.

Right??
It sounds fascinating. The page length is a little daunting, but overall, it looks good. Hope you enjoy it!

I didn’t even notice the page count until you said that – ugh! Oh well, I hope it will be a page turner and I won’t notice the length:-)
I love the sound of this one – thank you for sharing, Tammy:))
It does sound good, and it reminds me of The Stand, which is a good thing:-)
This sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing, Tammy! 🙂
Thanks for visiting, Michelle!
I’ve never read any of Wendig’s stuff but I like the sound of this one. Definitely going to be a tome with the page length but hopefully it will be as good as it sounds!
Yeah, the page length scares me a bit, but if it’s anything like his other books, it will be a page turner:-)
I’ve had this one on my watch list, but had no idea it was sci-fi! I just love that cover…it’s almost too beautiful to be a dystopian!

I agree, the cover is simple but powerful. I didn’t know what it was about either, until just recently:-)
*shivers* That cover versus that blurb are miles apart for me — which actually heightens the impact of the blurb. Great pick, Tammy!
That’s what I thought when I saw the cover, it’s so pretty and peaceful!
This sounds INCREDIBLE! I’ve never read a Check Wendig book, so I think I’ll start here.
This does sound like a great place to start:-)
Well, this sounds amazing. I haven’t read Wendig yet but I do love his blog. I may have to finally pick up some of his work with this one!
Some of his books are better than others, but this seriously looks epic, and I have high hopes:-)
Wendig is new to me but this synopsis sounds fantastic!

He’s really good, I’ve been reading his blog for years and he’s a great mentor for new writers as well.
This sounds great – almost a little like Strange Encounters. On the list it goes.
Lynn 😀
The collapse of society sounds interesting, but having to face it in the company of a rock star and/or a radio host, I don’t know….
Chuck is one of my must-read authors. If his name is on it, I’m reading it. Really looking forward to Wanderers.
