Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
It’s the first Wednesday of Sci Fi Month, and today begins a whole month of science fiction Waiting on Wednesdays! My aim this month is share as many upcoming 2019 science fiction releases as I can. Let’s start things off with a bang:
The Sol Majestic is a big-hearted intergalactic adventure for fans of Becky Chambers and The Good Place
“A feast of a book.” –Hugo Award-winning author Seanan McGuire
Kenna, an aspirational teen guru, wanders destitute across the stars as he tries to achieve his parents’ ambition to advise the celestial elite.
Everything changes when Kenna wins a free dinner at The Sol Majestic, the galaxy’s most renown restaurant, giving him access to the cosmos’s one-percent. His dream is jeopardized, however, when he learns his highly-publicized “free meal” risks putting The Sol Majestic into financial ruin. Kenna and a motley gang of newfound friends — including a teleporting celebrity chef, a trust-fund adrenaline junkie, an inept apprentice, and a brilliant mistress of disguise — must concoct an extravagant scheme to save everything they cherish. In doing so, Kenna may sacrifice his ideals — or learn even greater lessons about wisdom, friendship, and love.
Utterly charming and out of this world, The Sol Majestic is will satisfy the appetites of sci-fi aficionados and newcomers alike.
The Sol Majestic by Ferrett Steinmetz. Releases in June 2019 from Tor Books. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about Steinmetz, and I’m incredibly sad that I haven’t read his ‘Mancer series yet (but I will!). This space opera looks fantastic, and for some reason I’m getting some Matt Wallace and Catherynne M. Valente vibes from this book. This is high on my “must read” list next year!
Ooo, sounds good! I like the good place, haven’t read Becky Chambers yet, but I’m planning to.
Thanks for the recommendation
I’ve never seen The Good Place, but I know it’s very popular!
A new author for me and what sounds like quite the adventure. It sounds like it would be a fun movie too. Thanks for sharing it.

You’re right, it does sound like it would work great as a movie:-)
If you’re getting Wallace and Valente vibes, then it’s gotta be good. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this one elsewhere. I have to make sure that I have this one on the wishlist.
I was thinking Wallace and Sin du Jour (food) and Valente’s Space Opera (humorous), so we’ll see!
This sounds quite fun — and seeing that it’s blurbed by Seanan McGuire seals the deal for me!
Oh I didn’t even notice that, you’re right, that makes it even better:-)
WOW! This one sounds so great! I will definitely keep an eye out for this one

It does, right? And that cover!
I love the Good Place, and I think we’ve talked about how I enjoy science fiction diving into philosophy! If I am being honest I am not sure where that comp came from based on the synopsis, unless it is the sacrificing ideals. Not sure about this one but will keep an eye out for reviews!

I’ve never watched The Good Place, so that comparison is lost on me, but I’m hopeful it will be good!
I love the sound of this one! This is going on my TBR pile, Tammy – thank you for sharing:)
Any time, my wish is to add to TBRs everywhere;-)
Oh wow, the cover of this one is really speaking to me for some reason.
I was drawn to this cover, too. It just jumps out at you!
This sounds like it should be fun!
I know! Definitely a change of pace:-)
Ooh I love the look of this! Especially that neon food sign lol. I may need this book!
A space station restaurant? Yes please!

Yeah, I love the cover, and the fact that it’s a restaurant in space makes it so unique:-)
Wow, this sounds like something else! I am definitely intrigued!
It sounds so different from other books I’ve been reading, for sure!
Ooh, I just added this to Goodreads yesterday! I love the cover.

The cover is so cool, I agree!
Oh this sounds wonderful! I haven’t seen this title before, I’ll definitely be checking it out now. Thanks for sharing it! 🙂
It does sound wonderful, and unique!
Charming and Majestic work well for me – and an author I already know and like.
Lynn 😀
I can’t wait to read something by him, and one of these days I hope to get back to his first series.
Sounds like Tor has yet another great book coming out. They are on a roll!

Quirky is exactly the right word:-)
From where the blurb began, i did not expect it to end that way — and that cover! What a great find Tammy! You have the BEST recs!
Looks really interesting! Combining teen story and space faring sci-fi is always a good recipe.
