Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
This book sounds like all kinds of crazy, but wow! I really want to read it, also I want to stare at the cover all day:
I’ve been chased my whole life. An illegal immigrant in Mercer-controlled territory, I’ve always had to hide who I am. Until now.
When Ari crash lands on Old Earth, and pulls a magic sword from its ancient resting place, she becomes the forty-second reincarnation of King Arthur. Merlin awakes to find that having aged backward over the last forty-one Arthurs, he is now-wretchedly-a teenager. Ari may be Merlin’s final chance to complete the steps of the cycle: 1) Train Arthur 2) Defeat the greatest evil in the universe. 3) Unite all of mankind. No pressure.
I don’t know about prophecies or kings, but I do know this: Mercer is evil. They’ve imprisoned my parents, enslaved worlds, and now they’re after my friends. I’m done hiding.
My name is Ari Helix. I have a magic sword, a cranky wizard, and a revolution to start.
Once & Future by Cori McCarthy & Amy Rose Capetta. Releases in March 2019 from Little, Brown & Company. A science fiction retellling of King Arthur with gender swapping? Um, yes I will definitely need this book! Also, the cover needs to be a poster so I can put it on my wall:-)
Wow, that does sound crazy and man, I’m interested. Also, yes, that cover. <3 Adding this to my list. 🙂
Crazy indeed!
Oh, this sounds good! And that cover pops

The cover is just wonderful all around: design and colors:-)
I love the sound of this – a teenage Merlin? Oh yes. And I love the cover too.
Lynn 😀
The teenage Merlin is a great idea, I’m so curious to see how the authors pull it off.
This book is high on my wishlist! I think it’s going to be amaaaazing. 😀
Me too! It’s got to be with that cover, right?
I’ve always adored King Arthur legend so I think I’m gonna add this to the wishlist. Plus, look at all of those awesome colors on the cover. And I need to know more about this cranky wizard 🙂
I love Arthurian stories as well, and it’s been a while since I’ve read one, so I can’t wait for this:-)
hahaha teenage Merlin intrigues me.

I know! The whole “aging backwards” thing is something I’ve got to read about.
That cover and that premise is absolutely fantastic. You’ve done it again! *sigh* I’m now desperate to get my hands on this one – despite PILES of other books that need reading first…
You have to admit this sounds like it’s worth adding to the pile, though:-)
I love the synopsis and the cover. Sounds like it’s going to be a great read. Hope you’ll enjoy it. Thanks for sharing!

It’s one of my favorite covers in quite some time!
Can we take a moment to talk about that cover? STUNNING.
Yes, please. *grabby flaily I want this now hands* This looks like it’s going to be amazing, I am a sucker for anything to do with Arthurian legend, Merlin and this is just right up my alley with a revolution to start, a grumpy wizard, and a magic sword. Fantastic pick. 🙂
The cover is making me so happy:-)
Yes, it totally is! 🙂
Beautiful cover! I’m actually surprised this concept hasn’t been done more in YA.
Me too, especially epic fantasy. Seems like the authors picked a great story to build around.
Yes, I think this one is going to be a trip. 🙂
It’s definitely a unique sounding concept:-)

Yes, right? We must all read this!
Love the twist on the title, instead of Once and Future King! Sounds like a lot of fun!!! 😮
Yes, I do love the way they give a nod to that book:-)
I haven’t seen this one before and I positively squealed when I saw the cover and the blurb! We need more gender-bent King Arthur stories in this world! How is it not 2019 yet?!
I know, right? This came out of nowhere for me, I’m so glad I found it, can’t wait!
