Another month gone! Time would you please slow down. March was…weird for me. I didn’t get to nearly the amount of review books that I wanted to, and to be honest, April and May are going to be just as “real life” busy for me, with my daughter winding down her senior year of high school and getting ready for college. SO we’ll see how many of these I actually get to this month, wish me luck! I also seem to have signed up for THREE blog tours in April, which is unusual for me, but they are three books I’m excited about so it should be fun. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve bitten off more than I can chew this month, as it’s doubtful I’ll get to all of these. But as usual, I’ll do my best!
Here are my reading/blogging plans for April:
Most Anticipated:
Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente. I’m super excited to read Valente’s latest, and I may be reading it by the time this post goes live since the release date snuck up on me. I was hoping to get a physical review copy, but at least I have the NetGalley copy just in case it doesn’t show up:-)
I’m just as excited about Before Mars by Emma Newman, after LOVING her last book in the series, After Atlas. These are stand-alone books so even if you haven’t read the first two, you can jump into this third book in her Planetfall series.
More awesome April Releases:
I just got a copy of Head On, John Scalzi’s follow up to Lock In, and I couldn’t be happier! I’m curious to see where this story is going next.
The Atrocities by Jeremy Shipp is a Tor.com novella with I’m very excited to read. You may remember that I’ve been having technical difficulties downloading Tor.com review copies to my tablet, but for some reason I was able to download this one, so I’m pretty excited!
Unbury Carol by Josh Malerman is another horror title that I’ve been anxious to read for MONTHS. Can’t wait!
One Way by S.J. Morden looks like a bunch of fun. It’s got that The Martian vibe going, and I love reading stories that are set on or around Mars.
I only have one short story collection this month but it looks fantastic! I’m thrilled to have a review copy of Stephanie Burgis’ The Underwater Ballroom Society (co-edited by Tiffany Trent), so look for my review later in the month.
I was kindly offered a copy of Paternus: Rise of the Gods by Dyrk Ashton, and although I thought I might be able to read it this month, I’m afraid it will be pushed to May. But I wanted to list it here because it’s my intention to try to read it in April:-)
Finally, I’ve been reading some great reviews of The Oracle Year by Charles Soule and I’m excited to have a review copy.
Blog Tours & Giveaways:
Oh boy, this is definitely the Month of the Blog Tour for me!
My stop on the Risen blog tour is this coming Friday, April 6th, so stop by to read my review of this intriguing YA vampire tale that I really enjoyed! The author, Cole Gibsen, is a dog lover like me and of course Risen has a fantastic dog character! There will also be a giveaway for a Risen swag pack, so don’t miss out:-D
And right on the heels of that is my tour stop for Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian on Monday April 9th. I’ll be sharing my review, and there is the possibility of a giveaway, but I don’t have the blog tour details yet, so check back soon!
Finally, I’m thrilled to be on the tour for Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young. My review stop is on the 29th and there may be a giveaway involved, but I don’t know yet for sure. I’ve already read some great reviews so I’m excited to get started on this.
Did you miss any of my March reviews? (I didn’t read much but I loved them all!)
The Night Dahlia by R.S. Belcher
Looking Glass by Andrew Mayne
Impostor Syndrome by Mishell Baker
Semiosis by Sue Burke
I think three blog tours in one month would be too stressful for me lol. But if you’re excited for the books, then it’s worth it! I hope you enjoy all of these!

I don’t know how I managed to sign up for three blog tours, as I usually don’t even do them that often anymore. But oh well! I’m already reading book #2 so at least I don’t feel stressed YET.
Head On and Unbury Carol are going to be awesome!
I agree, I feel like this should be a better than average month for reading:-)
So Risen has a great dog character – why did I not know that. Gotta add it to the TBR straight away! It seems like I’ve been waiting for Unbury Carol forever. I actually got an email that it would be included in my Nocturnal’s Reader box this month. I guess on the Facebook group, they saw lots of people preordering it and wanted to warn them as they usually don’t provide spoilers. I’m so glad they did as I would have grabbed it for my Kindle.
I wish I had a month off to just read. Then I might feel like I’m catching up. I gotta plan my Musts and Mights today or tomorrow. Right now I’m reading the last Sin du Jour book. I know this is a busy time for you but how exciting for your daughter!

I need to subscribe to Nocturnal Reader’s box, I’d probably love it. The dog in Risen didn’t play as big a part as I liked, but this is the start to a series so I’m hoping he has a bigger part next time. Plus, the author is a dog lover so you know nothing bad is going to happen to the dog!
Your posts always want to make me run out and pick up a Scalzi, even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of Lock In… There are a few of his I’m going to read, no matter what!

I really want to read Old Man’s War, I feel like everyone but me has read it.
I hope you find some down time to read all of those great looking books. My kids are both out of school but I still can”t seem to find the time!
Yeah, I thought I’d have more time to read as my kids got older but then I started volunteering for their activities and you just can’t escape that life, lol.
Looks like a busy month!
I am also really looking forward to Space Opera! I think it’s going to be a really fun book.
Me too, I mean that cover just SCREAMS fun:-)
Fingers crossed that life doesn’t get too much in the way of your reading!
Thanks Stephanie!
I cannot wait for Space Opera and Before Mars too! I pre-ordered Space Opera so I hope I will manage to read this one sooner rather than later and I can’t wait to see your thoughts, it sounds crazy! March was also a crazy month for me, I only managed to finish two things because I couldn’t sit down 2 minutes to read, I don’t know if April is going to be less stressful but we have to hope for the best!
It just seems to be a busy time for a lot of people, and I remember this time last year I was struggling to find time to read and blog. I guess I’m prepared this year, but I’m still going to try to read as much as I can:-)
Oh my gosh I am so looking forward to Before Mars. I’ve never read Newman but I love the sound of the premise and that I can jump into it as a standalone. The Underwater Ballroom society looks awesome too, I’m buying that one just for the cover.
Risen I’m not familiar with, but YA vampire? I’ll take a look!

I’ve already read a couple of the Underwater Ballroom stories and they are so good! Let’s hope Before Mars is as good as After Atlas, I seriously recommend that as well, and yes, it’s a stand alone:-)
I’m sick with jealousy – I requested Head On, Before Mars and One Way – and haven’t got approved for ANY of them:((. I look forward to finding out out what you make of them and I will be getting hold of them – one way and another. You have an awesome lineup of books. And I haven’t even got around to considering Space Opera… Have a great April, Tammy.
Oh no, I’m sorry Sarah! I’m sick right there with you:-( I have a few books that I was declined for recently that made me want to cry, so I do know that feeling.
I’m really looking forward to Before Mars, and One Way caught my eye. Funny they’re both related to Mars. Some of the others also look promising. Good luck with your schedule! I look forward to seeing how it goes.
I’ve seen a lot of new books that deal with Mars, I have a feeling it’s because of The Martian:-) Thanks Todd, I’ll do my best to read as much as I can!
Woohoo! April looks awesome! Even if you only read a couple of these, it’ll be great. 🙂 Like you, I’m probably reading Space Opera next.
Agreed, I really can’t go wrong this month:-)
Same here, crossing my fingers for that physical copy of Space Opera too! But I guess it’s not like we’re hurting for things to read in the meantime 😀 Just looking at this list is making me feel dizzy (with both panic and anticipation!) because I have many of them on my TBR too – One Way, Head On, Before Mars, Unbury Carol, The Oracle Year…thinking about my reading schedule in April I’m like a kid in a candy shop!

I feel like Wunderkind never got ARCs for some reason, so hoping Saga sends a finished copy of Space Opera:-) yep, April is going to be great no matter what I get to!
Yay Space Opera! I haven’t heard of The Oracle Year before so I took a peek at the blurb and it sounds like all kinds of crazy and fun. I’ll definitely be checking it out!
It does sound good, and I hadn’t heard of it until a publicist asked me about it. I’ve read some really good reviews so far!
A lot of reads I don’t know but a few I do. I have Unbury Carol too so I hope I like it. I am also on the blog tour for Ash Princess and I am a bit nervous as I am not really in a fantasy mood so I hope it holds my attention. 🙂
Hey Stormi, I keep getting an email bounce back from the Ash Princess blog tour publicist. Have you received any information for the blog tour? I’m panicking because my stop is Monday and I don’t know who I should try to contact.
Well, Scalzi is Scalzi is Scalzi… Enough said! 🙂
He’s been firmly ensconced in my “buy-as-soon-as-it-comes-out” list, and Head On is one title i was quite looking forward to.
While I’m curious about “One Way”: I’ve read a couple of mixed reviews and I’m uncertain wether I might like it or not…

LOL Scalzi! I have seen some mixed reviews of One Way as well, but I’m keeping an open mind:-)
I like the idea of the expendable crew in One Way, and that might be the detail that will bring me to request it…

So many good books! And three blog tours – I don’t think I could cope. I haven’t blogged for a week due to other commitments and now I’m so far behind! #guiltyfeelings
Lynn 😀
Before Mars and Space Opera are something I would really like to read, but for some reason, they don’t love me on NetGalley 😀 and I also requested Semiosis by email but I think that has been lost somewhere along the way cause I’m not getting any reply xD that’s too bad.. I would have loved to read it! Got really hooked by your review.
