Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
Two things immediately grabbed my attention when I saw this book (well, three if you count the cover!): “character driven” and “first contact.”
Only mutual communication can forge an alliance with the planet’s sentient species and prove that mammals are more than tools.
Forced to land on a planet they aren’t prepared for, human colonists rely on their limited resources to survive. The planet provides a lush but inexplicable landscape–trees offer edible, addictive fruit one day and poison the next, while the ruins of an alien race are found entwined in the roots of a strange plant. Conflicts between generations arise as they struggle to understand one another and grapple with an unknowable alien intellect.
Semiosis by Sue Burke. Releases in February 2018 from Tor Books. Really, this sounds soooo good. Not much of a blurb, but I’m intrigued anyway. I’ve been craving character driven science fiction stories lately, and I hope this will fit the bill!
This looks one book I can really enjoy. Thanks for posting it!
Sure, thanks for stopping by Steph!
That cover is awesome. Sounds like something you will enjoy. I tend to enjoy character driven books as well.

The best books I’ve read combine cool world building with great characters, so hopefully this will be one of those.
First I’m hearing of this, but it looks really good! Off to add it on Goodreads! I didn’t get around to doing a Wednesday post this week. Too busy I guess. I’ll just jump around to other blogs and get some good ideas!

Omggggg that cover! It is cool but slightly freaky! I’d not heard of this one before. I hope you enjoy the book when you get the chance to read it!
Have a great week, Tammy. =)

Ha ha, yes, it’s very freaky, the more I look at it!
There are many elements I know I would love in this book (besides the cover, yes, I totally agree with you!): the colonization of a new planet, landfall in an unplanned-for site, strange and deadly flora and fauna, and ALIEN RUINS.
We wantsss this one, Preciousssss! 😀

It does sound like it has so many cool layers, right?
That’s one creepy cover (at least in my opinion). I haven’t heard of this book before, but it seems an interesting sci-fi novel. I really like books on space colonization. Thank you for sharing this one.
Happy readings!

Have to agree, I hope it’s as good as it looks:-)
Sounds like it could be good 🙂

This one does sound good! You know what though, I think I’ve been getting the covers to this and Splice confused! 😀

I agree, the covers are so similar, which is probably why I love both of them!
OMG, I am having serious flashbacks to the movie Life right now *shudderS* I hope there’s less bloodshed than in the movie!
I haven’t seen that movie, but you’ve made me curious:-)
This really does sound fantastic and that cover! Yes, please.
